Such a lovely weekend of sunshine....but both Meadow and Miles were both afraid to play in the cool water!π
We soon changed that with a little time and patience....π₯°π
β€οΈ This little video melts my heart!
It takes time, trust and love to enable a rescue dog with trauma to totally decompress, and allow themselves to sleep...with both eyes shut!
Trust and feeling safe is one of the most important first steps of rehabilitation!!!!
I feel honoured they feel safe in our company and trust us to watch over them as they sleep.....ππΎ
No fancy Music or script...just a video showing this little rescue boy enjoying his training, the sunshine and being loved!.....Happy February everyone!π₯°
We have been muzzle training with Meadow & Miles this week. All dogs should be muzzle trained ( in the event of a veterinary emergency!) but especially important for fear reactive rescue dogs such as Miles!
He will need to be seen by a vet soon to start his vaccinations and implant his chip. This will cause Miles some anxiety but is essential for his health, being muzzle trained will ensure everyone's safety.
Muzzles should always be introduced through fun training using incremental steps. Having fun and making positive associations with the muzzle makes it as comfortable as a collar or harness to wear.
As you can see Miles is offering duration holds and is finding it fun! This little lad is really starting to trust us bless him!ππx
We would just like everybody to know that Meadow is doing well after being spayed yesterday! π₯° We want to thank all our generous donors for making this possible!
Suspected past multiple litters and with adolescent pup in tow it was crucial to get Meadow Spayed! Free from having to produce anymore babies, and the risk of a later pyometra lessened.
Meadow is such a beautiful and brave soul, we can only imagine the stress of trying to keep her son safe whilst on the run together!π
So the past couple of weeks we have been building her trust, teaching her to relax and letting her realise she can go to sleep with both eyes shut! ( hard when you've been in survival mode as a stray πͺ ) No longer needing to be on high alert all the time......
Enjoying her cosy, soft bed and classic FM radio in the background.
Today I feel privileged that she finds comfort in me after her operation, that I am able to sooth her and make her feel loved and safe.............as she deserves!!!β€οΈπΎ
π₯° So today has been a big day for Miles. Mum Meadow has gone in to be spayed leaving him on his own.
Miles has been with us for nearly 2 weeks now, in that time he has made huge progress!....( for a rescue anyway!)
He is very timid, nervous, shy and frightened of his own shadow. We have no idea what he has experienced, seen and been through! Judging by all his war scars and poor condition he has had a very hard life so far.
We have so far spent hours with him, teaching him it's OK to be around humans and gaining his trust...the first part of any rehabilitation training.
Today he was relaxed in what was once a very scary environment!....a little win but such a huge one!!πππΎ
