Pack to go rescue a Moroccan street dog with me
āļøš²š¦ššš¬š§
ā¢ Puppy padsš§» Polar hasnāt lived in a house, or been house-trained, and so naturally accidents will happen! For now, we manage, and when we get to the UK, toilet training will begin. But we know that accidents will likely happen for a while!
ā¢ Lead & harness. š¦®A harness will be new to Polar, so we will ensure it fits as comfortably as possible (I have actually packed two, so we can pick the best one). The lead is multi clip- this will mean we can change the lead length but also allow us to clip to harness and collar (with no lead pressure on collar, & for safety reasons only).
ā¢ Jumperš§£The temperature switch from Morocco, to France, to the UK is going to be a big one. As well as this, Polar is underweight and his coat is thin, so we will need to ensure he is kept warm. Sorry though Polar, until we get your measurements, youāre wearing Neveās Christmas jumperāļø
ā¢ Sticky labelsš·ļøPolar will be travelling in a travel box, so for safety Iāll be labelling with all important information and contact details, to ensure that god forbid, if we are separated, people know who to call!
ā¢ Rubber glovesš§¤boy did I need these last timeā¦ things can get mucky š
ā¢ Travel bowlš§ itās important he stays hydrated. And thanks to @butternutbox for this fab travel bowl, weāve got it covered!
ā¢ Easy food and treatsš¦“ when Polar gets here, heāll be slowly weaned onto fresh/ raw food to help improve his weight, coat and general health & wellbeing. For the journey, there will be some intense, overwhelming moments, and so itās important we have food to help reinforce behaviours and use towards desensitisation to the surroundings.
ā¢ Natural calming remediesš§š¼āāļø Itās going to be stressful journey, and of course we want to make it as calm and seamless as possible for Polar. Iām not sure we will use these yet, but any natural calmers are wor
Just because we find some of our dogās behaviour annoying, doesnāt mean we should attempt to stop it completely.
Iām not saying let your dog chew your slippers, dig up your daffodils and chase the neighbours cat. But as dog owners, we can get used to saying ānoā a lot. š«
Dogs are great communicators; they can tell us how theyāre feeling, what they enjoy, what they donāt and what they might need.
When we constantly say ānoā to these communications, a lot of frustration can build in our dogs, which can lead to much more complicated behavioural issues.
Something that comes up a lot with some of dog owners I speak to, is that they want their dog to stop a behaviour, because they donāt like it, without considering that this was what their dog was originally bred to do. Some behaviours in our dogs are just normal. Dogs will dig, bark, chase, chew, sniff (one that is in my opinion a need, not a privilege).
There are alternatives for the āannoyingā behaviour, and youāll likely find that if you offer your dog these alternatives correctly, youāll see the behaviour less in unwanted scenarios. āØ

This is Violet is an 8 year old, female, Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, who is looking for a new home due to a change in her owners circumstances.
I have been working with Violet, her owners and the incredible @alldogsmatter in providing a Behavioural and Rehoming assessment, alongside training, to prepare her in finding a new home.
Violet is an affectionate, intelligent dog, looking to be rehomed as the only pet in the household. She has a loving character, enjoys a fuss, has responded brilliantly to training so far and would be a fantastic addition to a home looking for a fun and loving dog with staffy-like qualities.
Due to her owners circumstances, Violet is looking to find a home as soon as possible, and so would also be open to foster enquiries.
Of course, as for any dog, Violetās new home will need to fit her needs and requirements, and so please check out her profile on @alldogsmatter or the link below.
Please share, send to anyone who you think may be suitable and contact myself, or All Dogs Matter if you have any questions.
Thanks all and letās find this gorgeous dog a home! š
