Being part of a puppy's life and development is a true privilege and a responsibility that should be carefully considered.
Please do remember our dogs can very easily overheat. 🌞
Its often best to them home safe in the cool when the temperatures rise. ⛱️
Here some helpful advice from Pet Remedy on keeping pets safe in the heat...
7 simple steps to keep your pet safe as the temperature rises...
• Make sure pets always have plenty of fresh water to drink
• Provide adequate ventilation at all times
• Avoid exercising dogs in the heat of the day: especially older pets, brachycephalic breeds or dogs that you know have heart or lung problems
• Provide shade from the sun in the hottest part of the day
• Watch out for early signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting, restlessness and lack of coordination
• Never leave dogs in vehicles: "Not long" is too long
• Contact a vet immediately if your animal does not respond to efforts to cool it down.

Really nice work at close proximity to other dogs during last week's class. Each dog has a different personality and level of confidence, so we work with the individual in front of us and to their level which enables us to get some lovely calm work. *Positive reinforcement works for those less confident and those who are more enthusiastic. Please note the dogs choose which position they were stationed in, not the handler - this is to help the individual feel as comfortable as possible with the situation. *Leads are loose to ensure if the dog decides they are no longer comfortable they can move away and the handler would take this cue and leave the area. Although this did not happen as session was short to help prevent anyone becoming too uncomfortable.
FREEWORK An easy and enjoyable way to build your dogs confidence, give then enrichment in a low stress and enjoyable manner. Even though Joey is terminally ill and we will have to say goodbye soon, he is still choosing to engage in a positively rewarding exercise.
Bertie loves his training walks. ❤️ I love being lucky enough to work with such a gorgeous adolescent, helping him figure out life in the human world and teaching him using positive reinforcement.
**EYE DROPS ARE THE WORST*** Dottie has been needing eye drops. 6 lots a day! This could have been a nightmare and created potential issues if we had not established strong positively reinforced handling. Watch carefully and see how I wait for Dottie to communicate she is ready to partake in the activity. Having eye drops put in could be an adversive experience.... Not in our house!
📣 Training Walks*** I have availablity for one new training walk client! Here is one of my clients showing you her excellent skills, we have worked on during her training walk. Contact me today to avoid disappointment: Email [email protected]
*Help my dog is chewing!* 🦖Dogs chew, especially young ones who are teething. 🐾It's essential to help them have an outlet for this normal and natural behaviour. ☠️In order to ensure their chewing is not on items we would rather did not get chewed, we MUST provide them with easy access to safe, suitable items to chew. Also, remember to keep items you do not want chewed away and train your puppy through positive reinforcement what is best from them to chew. 🐶Here is my puppy Dottie surrounded by her items to chew. I ensure in each room Dottie goes and in her crate are items safe for her to chew and express her normal dog behaviours on.

*Firework Fear* Having lived with a noise sensitive dog I understand how stressful it is to see you pet terrified when the dark nights draw in. I learnt quickly how to help Jen, best I could to ensure she did not injur herself. Then then months (well actually years) of noise de-sensitisation and positive association commenced. We had Jen at the stage where she would choose to go outside to toilet even when fireworks were going nearby! To someone in the midst of a dog with fear of fireworks that seems like an impossibility. Prevention is a must for this, so do for dogs of any age I would advise preparing for firework season well in advance. Here is my motley crew this morning. Yes, they are not reacting to the noises, thats the point we dont want them to. That's how systematic desensitization works!
*Puppy Progression Classes* These sessions are to practice and build upon the training Foundations already established, in a more challenging real life, safe environment. Sessions involve reward based, fun training to ensure all learn effectively and enjoy the training. Please feel free to contact me to find out more...
*Puppy Socialisation* Puppy's like young children need support and guidance from those more experienced than them. Social etiquette are skills that is learnt though suitable experience. To ensure our dogs learn how to interact and communicate in appropriate manner, the right type of managed interactions are required. Socialisation should NOT be a situation where your pup is put into a stressful situation and learns bad habits. To ensure our dogs learn how to interact and communicate in appropriate manner, the right type of managed interactions are required. Before you can guide your puppy with appropriate dog interactions you need to understand canine body language and communication. Understanding dog behaviour and how theycommunicate involves learning a foreign language. As the human we are responsible to select the right kind of interactions with a role model dog. It is essential that we carefully manage the interactions ensuring all parties involved are comfortable and behaviour does not esculate. True play looks like balanced interactions. Stopping and starting so each dog can signal they are ok to continue. You will also see mirroring of behaviour. Sadly many behaviour issues related to dog aggression can stem for inappropriate early socialisation. Play and socialisation is a very complex subject so please feel free to contact me for more information....
