Twmi's Fan Club at the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary Twmi is one of the original chimpanzees rescued by WAMS Charity in 1999. Twmi was born in Penscynor Wildlife Park , here in Wales UK on 18th August 1984 .

The Park closed in the Autumn of 1998 and the chimps faced execution because nowhere in the UK would offer them a home.One place wanted £50,000 per chimp to take them.He now lives at the Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary along with his brother Fergus, and his sister Suzi and also three other chimps Ronnie, Freddie and Nakima.Twmi is the alpha male in his group and does a great job. He loves to play w

ith his fellow chimps but will reprimand them if they are in the wrong he is a fair chimp to all the others.He loves to have a stick and poke around using it as a tool. He also loves watches,fiddling with the winder.Chimps are amazingly nimble fingered considering the size of their hands and Twmi once turned back the winder on his Keeper's watch by over an hour, which she had not noticed until she had worked an hour later than usual! To preserve the integrity of the Articles of the Charity in every aspect of the work we do here at the Sanctuary and to provide a quality service to our supporters without contravening the ethos of the Sanctuary. To provide an educational resource and visitor experience and make a significant contribution to the economy of the Upper Swansea and Dulais Valleys. MISSION STATEMENT
We intend to do our utmost to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need as far as we are able to accommodate them and provide them with a high level of care and quality of life. All animals in our care will remain here for the rest of their lives. If the quality of life become untenable any decisions regarding euthanasia will be taken under discussion with and guidance from our veterinary surgeons. We aim to continuously improve animal welfare by training and developing our staff and volunteers to their full potential. We intend also to constantly review and improve our facilities for visitors who provide the main source of funding. In this way we hope to maintain a balance between the ethos of the Sanctuary and the necessity for its economic viability and to provide our supporters with a comprehensive understanding of the factors governing the Sanctuary’s development.

Happy St David's Day/ Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant Hapus 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️
It's a nice sunny morning and we're open from half 10 everyday, if you're visiting and able to bring a small contribution of fruit, veg, nuts or dried fruit for our animals we would be so grateful if you could hand them to a member of staff on arrival 🥰
