We have had several enquiries today regarding cryptosporidium in pets. It can affect people and animals. We recommend following the same advice for people and to give bottled/boiled (cooled) water to pets to drink. Though there is a low risk of ingestion for a pet from bathing/cleaning to minimise this risk bottled or boiled (cooled) water can be used. Cryptosporidium can cause vomiting and diarrhoea and if your pet has these symptoms we may recommend a faecal sample being sent to the lab. Best Wishes Silverton Team.

❔ Did you know?
Starting June 10, 2024, it will be mandatory for all pet cats in England to have a microchip. This regulation applies to cats before they reach 20 weeks of age, with exceptions made for unowned cats such as feral and community cats. Even indoor-only cats must comply with the microchipping requirement. Additionally, it's necessary to maintain updated contact information on a Defra-approved microchipping database according to the new rules.

Failure to comply with the June deadline means you'll have a 21-day grace period to get your cat microchipped, failing which could result in a fine of up to £500 as per the new law.

New Computer System 🖥

We are having a new computer system installed on Monday 29th April. The switch over to the new system will take place overnight on Sunday.

From Monday 29th April 2024 booking appointments, medication requests, consultations and queries will take longer than usual as we get to grips with the new system. We are making our consultation appointments 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes to accommodate this. You may have a short wait in the reception area. Please bear with us.

We have all been undergoing some training to ensure this is as smooth as possible and causes little disruption.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Could you spot a poisonous plant before your furry friend? 🌷

As lovely as the spring blooms look as they start to take over the gardens, it’s important to remember that curious pets may mistake them for a sweet-scented snack. It’s best to keep them well away from prying paws as certain types can be very poisonous 😥

With the new cat microchipping legislation in England coming in on 10 June 2024, if a have a new kitten, you may be wondering when you would need to get them microchipped by.
All cats need to microchipped by the time they are 20 weeks of age, this could be done during their neutering procedure so it can be placed easily and they do not feel it.
Give us a call to book your cat in for an appointment for microchipping and to find out
more about microchipping your cat:

You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.

So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.

Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

This is lovely Scout, he was referred to our practice for our dentistry and oral surgery service to investigate a lump that was spotted in his mouth. Our dentistry advanced practitioner Cherish took a biopsy, that came back as locally invasive benign tumour. As a result of this Scout needed part of his top jaw removed surgically to prevent regrowth of the mass. We are pleased to say Scouts owner reports he is doing well and we wish him a speedy recovery! 🦷❤
