When choosing someone to look after your dog, it’s really important to make sure they’re properly licensed and insured. It gives you peace of mind and helps ensure your dog is in safe, professional hands.

A licensed home boarder will hold a current licence issued by their local council. They should be happy to show you their licence document, which lists their business name, licence number, and the council that issued it. Many also display their licence details on their website or social media pages. If you’re unsure, you can contact the local council directly to confirm their licence is genuine and up to date.

Insurance is another key part of running a responsible boarding service. A boarder should have public liability insurance and specific cover for home boarding. This protects both your dog and the boarder if anything unexpected happens. Again, a professional will be open about showing proof of their insurance when asked.

Taking a few minutes to check these details before booking can make all the difference. It ensures your dog is cared for in a safe, regulated environment that meets proper welfare standards.

If you’d like help understanding what to look for when choosing a licensed and insured boarder, I’m always happy to offer some guidance - our licence is proudly displayed when we conduct our home meet and greets. If you would like more info on our boarding service drop me a message.

If your last walker ghosted in bad weather, read my weather policy, your dog's needs don't pause for drizzle - here's how we adapt!

Weather Policy

I walk dogs in most weather conditions, including light to moderate rain, as regular exercise is an important part of their routine and wellbeing. Dogs benefit from consistency, and a bit of rain can actually make walks more stimulating with new scents and experiences.

If wet or windy weather is forecast, please make sure your dog has an appropriate, well-fitting coat available if they need one. Breeds with shorter coats or lower body fat often appreciate the extra warmth and protection. I’ll always ensure your dog stays as comfortable as possible throughout the walk and will towel them off on return if they get damp.

In cases of extreme weather - such as storms, high winds, ice, or dangerous heat - I may need to adjust the walk for safety reasons. This could mean a shorter outing, a garden visit, or indoor enrichment activities instead. You’ll always be notified in advance if any changes are necessary.

My priority is keeping dogs safe, happy, and healthy whatever the weather brings.

If you would like to book in, drop me a message.

Fireworks season can be a stressful time for many dogs, but with a bit of preparation and patience, we can help them feel calmer and more confident.

Desensitising dogs to loud noises is a gentle process that helps them learn that sudden bangs or pops aren’t something to fear. Start by introducing low-level sounds such as fireworks or thunder recordings during calm moments, keeping the volume low enough that your dog notices the sound but doesn’t react. Over time, gradually increase the volume as they remain relaxed.

Pairing these sounds with something positive, like a treat, a favourite toy, or a calm activity, helps build a positive association. Short, regular sessions work best, and consistency is key. It’s important never to rush or push a dog beyond their comfort zone – slow and steady really does win the race here.

If you know your dog struggles with fireworks, now is the perfect time to start working on this. Building their confidence before the festive season can make a real difference to how they cope when the fireworks start.

If you’ve never used a dog walker before, October is a great time to give it a try. The days are getting shorter, the weather’s turning cooler, and it’s not always easy to fit in those longer walks around work and family life. A reliable dog walker can make sure your dog still gets the exercise, stimulation, and routine they need - even when your schedule gets busy.

Regular walks help keep your dog physically fit, mentally enriched, and calm at home. It’s also a great way for them to maintain social skills and enjoy a change of scenery. Many dogs thrive on that extra bit of adventure with a familiar, trusted walker.

Starting in October gives you time to settle into a routine before the darker, wetter months really set in. You’ll get peace of mind knowing your dog’s getting the care and attention they deserve, whatever the weather.

If you’ve been thinking about it but never taken the step, this could be the perfect month to see how a dog walker can make life easier for both you and your dog. I’d be happy to chat about how I can help, just pop me a message.

Did you know our bond with dogs could stretch back more than 15,000 years?

The earliest fossil evidence of dogs dates back around 14,000 to 15,000 years- though some discoveries suggest our bond could be even older. These early dogs lived closely alongside humans, helping with hunting, protection, and companionship.

Although they still looked quite wolf-like, their bones show early signs of adapting to life with people. Over thousands of years, that partnership evolved into the trusting, cooperative bond we share with dogs today.

It’s amazing to think that every time we clip on a lead and head out for a walk, we’re continuing a relationship that began thousands of years ago- built on connection, teamwork, and shared adventure.

If you enjoy learning more about dogs and what makes them tick, follow along for more insights and walking tips to help you strengthen your bond even further.

What do you love most about walking your dog - peace and quiet, a bit of exercise, or just seeing how happy they are to be out and about?

As the weather turns colder, it’s easy to forget that not all dogs are built to handle the chill. Short-haired breeds, in particular, can really feel the cold, especially during early morning or evening walks.

A good-quality, well-fitted coat isn’t about fashion - it’s about comfort and welfare. Dogs with thin coats or little body fat, such as Whippets, Staffies, and Greyhounds, benefit greatly from an extra layer to help them retain warmth. It keeps muscles loose, joints comfortable, and can make outdoor time much more enjoyable.

It’s important to choose a coat that fits properly and allows free movement. Look for materials that are water-resistant for damp days and easy to clean after muddy walks. Always remove the coat once your dog is indoors, as overheating can be just as uncomfortable as being cold.

If you’re unsure which type of coat would best suit your dog’s needs, I can help you find something practical and comfortable to keep them warm and happy this winter, just drop me a message.

Did you know it’s a legal requirement for dogs in the UK to wear an ID tag when out in public? Even if your dog is microchipped, they must still have a tag on their collar or harness whenever they’re outside your home.

By law, the tag must include your name and address. You can also add your phone number to make it easier for someone to contact you quickly if your dog goes missing. Avoid including your dog’s name, as this can help keep them safer if they’re approached by a stranger.

Having an ID tag isn’t just about following the rules - it’s about making sure your dog can be returned to you as quickly and safely as possible.

If you’d like advice on what details to include or the best type of tag for your dog’s lifestyle, feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to help you keep your dog safe and legal.

It’s certainly been a busy few weeks here! We’ve had Chester joining us for day care, and George walked for a full 14 days while Kristy from kristy's pet services enjoyed a well-earned holiday in the sun. Her holiday also meant I got to look after her chickens and her mum’s cat, Jim - a lovely change of pace alongside my regular dogs!

To top it off, Reggie came for an overnight trial and settled in brilliantly. It’s always a pleasure getting to have a dog stay and making sure they feel right at home.

If you’re planning a trip away or need reliable day care for your dog, feel free to get in touch - I’d love to help.

Here’s how I ended up doing what I do…

As a child I dreamed of becoming a vet. As a teenager, I wanted nothing more than to work with animals as an RSPCA inspector, but getting the right experience was difficult. Life moved on, jobs came and went, and eventually children came along too.

At 34, I decided to take on a new challenge and studied Forensic Science at university. It was fascinating, but I soon realised it wasn’t the path for me. I then spent three years supporting bereaved families, and during that time it became clear that I needed to follow what truly made me happy. Nothing gave me more joy than being around animals - especially stopping to say hello to every dog I met.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve built a business around just that. Every time I collect a dog and see how excited they are to greet me, I’m reminded exactly why I do what I do.

I love being outdoors, whatever the weather, and I’m so grateful I took the leap into this journey. I can’t wait to meet more of you and your animals. 🩷

“My dog hates kennels!”
If this is your dog, have you considered home boarding? 🏠

This is Ceasar, he wasn’t all too keen in unknown environments and it would upset him even once he was home - I began by walking Ceasar until I obtained my licence. He completed a trial night stay, stayed for 4 nights this month and will be staying again with us in October and he absolutely loves his stays, the adventure walks we get up to and having a good snore session relaxed on the sofa!

We offer a home from home environment where your dog will be welcomed as one of the family.
