As we emerge from what feels a like a long winter and start the race through 2025 - we will begin to see an increase in young stock.

Its the farmers favourite and most stress free time of year! 😆 🐑

Ok, that may be a stretch. Many Farmers will be working around the clock to ensure the safe delivery of their new arrivals.

What we must not make light of is the responsibilities of dog owners with regard to livestock.

Sheep worrying occurs when a dog is either chasing or worrying a sheep to the point where it is reasonably expected that the sheep will endure suffering or injury. The cost of sheep worrying claims in 2023 amounted to £2.4 million for livestock that was severely injured or killed by dogs.

Under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, if a dog worries sheep on agricultural land, the person in charge of the dog is guilty of an offence. The Act considers sheep worrying to include attacking sheep, chasing them in a way that may cause injury, suffering, abortion or loss of produce or being at large (not on a lead or otherwise under close control) in a field or enclosure in which there are sheep.

We would encourage our farming community to report sheep worrying without delay

It's that time of year again where the pet store shops will be FULL of different chews so you can spoil your pets.

However a lot of the chews are 100% rawhide, or contain rawhide.

Rawhide has so many dangers associated with it, is undigestible, a choking hazard and not even classed as animal food!

This year, before you pick up the rawhide, consider something more natural for your dog, such as deer antler, beef tendos, pizzles, yak milk chew or vegitable chews.

Everybody knows Trevor! He has been part of Animal Care for many years and is a little bit of a celebrity. This will be his 7th Christmas with us and we feel it’s time for him to get his wish and find a new home with his own special family.

Trevor is the most amazing dog who has been a big part of Animal Care and the staff love him to bits.

The staff know Trevor very well so the type of home he is looking for :

Trevor needs to be the only animal in his new home, although he has lots of friends he likes to go on walks with he enjoys his own space and isn’t keen on sharing.

He would be more suitable with no young children as he has never been around them and can get nippy when playing and being silly. An owner with experience with dogs would be best.

An owner who can manage him on lead, he might only have 3 legs but he is a big lad and can be strong on lead. He can get worried around some people and other dogs so is walked with a muzzle.

Due to his disability he is perfect for someone who enjoys a few small walks a day and is not looking for a dog to go hiking with. He loves a BIG cosy bed and LOVES his food especially Turkey!

Trevor is on pain medication which he must have twice a day due to this we are appealing for a permanent foster home for Trevor. Ideally local so medication and checks can be done with our own vets.

He struggles with stairs but can manage to get in a car and loves going for a drive. He loves to sit in the sun and watch the world go by so would love a big garden all to himself to sunbathe in and when the mood takes him to do his zoomies in.

Trevor has the most amazing personality. He is funny, loyal, affectionate, and a bit naughty, every morning when we come into work he greets us with a big smile.

Saying good bye to Trevor will the best and worst day for us all but we know someone out there is perfect for him.

Could you offer our boy a foster home and give him the best gift this Christmas??

Nami is ready to find her forever home🩷🐾

🐶 she is a super sweet girl with lots of energy and love to give.

🐶 she would like to be the only pet in the home.

🐶She can be a bit wary when in new surroundings and when meeting new people so will need an understanding owner.

🐶Due to her age she still has a lot to learn so will need someone who is happy to continue her training.
