All the tips for keeping your pets cool and comfortable this week ☀️

So...it's going to be a warm few days! 🌞♨️🌡

💧 Only exercise early in the morning and late in the evening when it is cooler, don’t let them run and reduce the time out

🐾 Some dogs may not need walks at all depending on their condition and sensitivity to the heat. Extra care to be given to braciocephalic breeds, the elderly and very young dogs

💧Extra water bowls available inside and outside

🚗 Only travel with them if really necessary

🏠Keep them in a cool room during the day, only short, supervised periods outside

❄️Try making ice cakes from empty ice cream tubs, fill with water and add some apple, carrot or dog treats and freeze

🐕Wet towels on tiled floor or in the shade outside for them to lie on NOT WET TOWELS DIRECTLY ON THE DOG

❗️Be more vigilant with health conditions, how’re minor. Any vomiting or diarrhoea can be much more serious in hot weather

🐾Keep on top of your dogs coat, make sure the dead hair is removed by brushing to allow air flow to the skin

If in doubt the fastest way to cool is to POUR LOTS OF COLD WATER over the dog💦💦💦💦💦

Please feel free to add your own tips that you have found useful and enjoy the weather safely with your dog 🐕💧☀️

Please Don’t Walk Your Dog in the Heat

We know how much you love your dog and that walk might feel like part of your daily routine…
But when the temperatures rise, that daily walk can quickly become dangerous.
Dogs can’t cool down like we can. They overheat fast and heatstroke can be fatal.
Even on a breezy summer day, pavements can burn paws and body temps can rise
dangerously high.

Skip the walk when:
• The pavement is too hot to touch
• Temperatures are 20°C+ with strong sun
• Your dog is older, flat-faced, overweight or has health conditions
What to do instead:
• Walk early in the morning or late evening only
• Use enrichment activities at home (like frozen Kongs or scent games)
• Keep your dog cool with fans, cooling mats, or damp towels (We have cooling mats
available)
• Make sure fresh water is always available

Remember:
Your dog doesn’t need a walk every day they need to stay safe.
They won’t miss the walk, but you could miss the warning signs of heatstroke.
Let’s all put safety first this summer 🐾☀

This is such an amazing idea! An enrichment and socialising opportunity for older dogs under the safe supervision of Tracy and on our doorstep 😍

Golden Oldie Club.
As many of you know, Maisie, my labrador is 12 and has arthritis in her front legs so I do a lot of enrichment activities with her instead of taking her on long walks (which she used to love !).
I've set the Golden Oldie club up to give your dogs a chance to play with other dogs of a similar age and to teach you and them about enrichment activities for dogs who are in their twilight years.
Just £10 per class and we will do age appropriate activities including scent work, enrichment games and even golden oldie agility.
Dates: Tuesday 24th June 6.30pm-7.30pm. Sledmere, £10
Tuesday 1st July 6.30pm-7.30pm. Filey Country Park, £10

Thermotherapy is a noninvasive treatment that I include in most of my sessions and recommend owners use at home to aid their pets rehab.

Heat therapy:
• Provide pain relief; helps relieve discomfort as it stimulates the skins sensory receptors which decreases the transmission of pain signals to the brain
• Accelerate healing; helps heal damaged tissues by dilating the muscles blood vessels which increases oxygen and nutrients delivery
• Aids arthritic joints
• Decreases stiffness and improve flexibility
• Relaxing

Happy 12th Birthday to George (for yesterday) 🥳🐶

Some didn’t think this handsome boy would reach his 11th birthday so this is a huge one for all of us involved with him! He has regular physiotherapy to help with his hip dysplasia, which is a common orthopaedic condition in dogs that involves problems with the ball and socket hip joint but has an impact on structures throughout the body 🐾

I’m now officially on maternity leave for a few months🤰🍼

It’s been heartbreaking to part with my patients but I know I’ve handed them over to very capable hands with and 🐾

Thank you for all of the well wishes, sweet gifts and support as we get closer to welcoming our little girl or boy! I am now off to take a much needed break and to spend time with my growing family 👶🏻
