🐾🌈 In Memory of Pip 🌈 🐾

It's never easy to lose any dog, but Pip, as one of our first official Adventure Daycare dogs, and the absolute character he has been since we first met, and all he's been through, hits especially hard. Pip was diagnosed with cancer, and despite an initial bounce back and a truly valiant fight, for far longer than many can, and he never really let on how unwell he was (so much so, just last week he was playing Casanova with the troops!) his body had had enough and his humans made that hardest of decisions, the last kindness we can offer our beloved pets, and he went to sleep surrounded by love and cuddles from his favourite people after a perfect day.

Pip was one of our only boys, and quite the stud of the group in his mind, after all, age and neutering is nothing you can't overcome!
He loved his outings with 'his ladies' and latterly, his wingman, Roy, another branch of the Old Man's Club!

He has been such a tolerant lad, welcoming new youngsters, keeping them in line, but always patient. His love for food knew no bounds, and even when things upset his delicate tum, he was hard to dissuade! He knew where the treat bags lived and wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of an unguarded pouch, and even indulged in some puppaccinos along the way.

We went on a myriad of adventures and visited some beautiful spots together, including summiting a munro with his human mum, dog-sister from another mister, Dali and my guys. We paddled, roamed near and far and made great use of the orthopaedic mattress, such is the life of a whippet!

He befriended anyone he met, and twerked with enthusiasm for anyone who provided bum scratches. He was our first sign up, the wise (and somewhat wily) hound, the notorious tea-leaf, but more than that, he was my friend.
I will miss him every week. I will remember his antics and will squeeze Dali a little tighter when we part ways at the end of an adventure.

Sending comfort and hugs to his human Mum and Dad, his partner in crime, Dali, and his three human siblings, who he patiently raised to cause chaos, just like him.

🐾🕷️ Our Adventure Daycare Dogs are getting into the Halloween spirit! 🎃🐾

We’re taking them on a special trip to the Canal Street Community Hub for a Halloween-themed Enrichment Party — complete with festive games, puzzles, and sensory activities designed to engage their curious minds (and wagging tails!).

From spooky sniffs to tasty treats, it’ll be a day full of fun, learning, and adventure for our furry friends. 👻🦴

🚐✨ Exciting news for our Adventure Daycare Pups! We’ve upgraded to a **new (to us!) daycare van** — and it’s an absolute dream! The layout is perfect for comfort and safety, with cozy **new bedding from Handmade by fifi** and premium **vetbed from bedding at Oakswarren ** keeping everyone snug and happy. 🐾

Our upgraded setup means smoother rides, comfier naps, and an even better experience for all our four-legged friends. Here’s to many more adventures in our shiny new wheels! 💙🐶

🐾 **Is your dog carrying a few extra pounds?**
It might look cute, and its even so normalised that adverts and media display chronically overweight dogs as the norm, further skewing what we as owners see as normal, but that extra weight can do real harm. Studies show overweight dogs can live **up to 2.5 years less** than dogs at a healthy weight. 😢

💔 Why Dog Obesity Matters

Carrying too much weight increases the risk of:

* 🦴 **Joint and mobility problems** (like arthritis, and can cause real issue with dogs with weaker/dyspasiastic hips or lunatic knees)
* 💨 **Breathing difficulties** Especially in brachycephalic (flat face) breeds.
* 💉 **Diabetes and metabolic issues**
* ❤️ **Heart strain and lower energy levels**

Over time, that means **less play, less comfort, and a shorter, less happy life**.

A huge study of over 50,000 dogs found that overweight dogs may live up to 2.5 years less than dogs at an ideal weight.

💚🐕‍🦺 **Healthy weight dogs** — you can feel ribs easily, see a nice waistline, tuck behind the ribs, and a noticeable 'hourglass' figure. Most hounds, finer built breeds and even some more working bred labradors will have at least a couple visible ribs when at an ideal weight.
🟠🐕 **Overweight dogs** — no visible waist, ribs hard to feel, rounder body shape. In hounds and similar shaped breeds, they may still tuck up, but definition is gone, and pressure required to find ribs.
🔴🐕 **Obese dogs** The first dog is often what we think of when we talk overweight, but the following orange coded dogs are all carrying more weight than necessary!

Seeing the difference helps us spot the signs early!

🍂✨ Planning Ahead for the Festive Season ✨🍂
It might only just be autumn, but that naughty C word (Christmas!!) has a way of sneaking up quickly! 🎄 To help everyone plan ahead, here’s our holiday schedule:

* We’ll be **off from Christmas Day through Sunday 29th December** 🎅🎁
* **Back at work on Tuesday 30th December** ✅
* Around New Year we’ll be open as usual for all regular daycare days 🐾💖
