A little bit of cheeky nonsense!
Featuring my favourite whippety chilly chaps Dali and Pip.
*Definitely don't take any of this seriously* 😳🤣
🐾💜 PADS Project Pups 💜🐾
Hayley decided it was high time we just let her hand out with Òran and we decided she deserved some playtime with a pal, as she's actually great with other dogs with introductions.
Hayley met Òran through the gate at PADS hq, she did her usual, exercising her vocals, and barked a bit. Then wandered off looking for a toy and then came back demanding her pate treats!
That was it. Òran joined her, and initially she found his faster movements exciting, but within minutes she was happy to do her own thing, and actively trying to get Òran to play!
She actually lovely sharing her toys and playing tuggy, she doesn't guard, she's not rude or grabby with toys or food, and even in more confined space, she happily bounces about.
Hayley doesn't need a complicated home with lots of special requirements, just someone who knows dogs, will follow her training plan and help her keep improving. She could definitely share her home, and she has more love to give than I can explain!
Get in touch with PADS, get an application in, and to ensure Hayley and her future family get off on the right foot, Peak Pawtential Dog Training, Behaviour and Nutrition will be covering a transition training plan.
Hayley Heelwork
🐾💜PADS Project Pups💜🐾
Hayley's latest session worked on some more formal stuff which we'd not focused on as much with looking at behaviour primarily.
We brushed up on a recall, reward position, emergency stop and handler focus.
We got a wee excuse to use Engage Disengage and LAT protocol during the session (which had a challenging start with barking pooches at either side of her) but she totally zoned back in, remembered the drill and at the end of the session, the dog barking at the gate as she passed got no more than a whistle, and when one of the PADS dogs was out on return, this would previously been a good reason to bark, but instead she offered a confident look, then return to engaging with me. EXACTLY what we want her to do! She didn't make a peep.
Training like this is so lovely because we get to see it in the dogs face how much fun they have, even when training more "boring" skills, you can make it fun for them.
Hayley has a singsong for me every time I go to the kennels, and she loves to train.
She just needs a new pair of feet to get under and a special human to give her all of the scritches!
Hayley Mantrailing
🐾💜 PADS Project Pup Hayley 💜🐾
Today Hayley came out for a couple hours just for her, where we let her use her basic scentwork skills for some mantrailing adventures!
She took to it pretty much immediately and loved tracking down our "Missing Person"
She showed how she could work even with triggers nearby, and how much fun she had doing it was so worth it.
This special activity was to give her a proper break from kennel life for a while, as she's been there 3 years.
This short break showed how much potential she has, how lovely she is, and how far she's come.
It'd be a lot of people's Christmas made, not least Hayley's, if someone had a couch for her.
(She is dog friendly with intros and actually plays beautifully! Really goofy, balanced play)
Enjoy this video of her being awesome and so so happy (and her new pal Dave)
👻🎃 WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃👻
🕷️ Remember costumes can spook dogs (and not in a seasonal fun way!)
🧙 Fireworks may well be set off, so prepare a safe space and avoid walks (this also avoids unexpected encounters with ghosts and ghouls on their annual adventures!)
☠️ Animated "spooky decor" can result in stress for dogs, so best avoided.
👹 Remember that a wagging tail may not be a friendly greeting, but appeasement from fear. Remove masks and scary accessories in front of dogs.

🎆🎇 FIREWORKS SOUNDS IN VIDEO 🎇🎆
With one month to go until Guy Fawkes Night, if you haven't already begun conditioning your pups to the SIGHT *AND* SOUND (as many are affected by one or the other or both) now is the time to begin.
You Tube is a great resource for sounds to condition your pup to. This is a 4k 1 hour video so great to slowly build up through.
If your pup isn't already relaxed or capable of handling this, especially if even at low level, get in touch for help to desensitise and condition your dog to help make the next several weeks less scary for them, and reduce your stress too.
These guys have been conditioned from an early age but I still repeat this often to ensure that the coming noise and colours aren't stressful as some dogs do develop fear or stress to these types of things at a later point in life.
I can't ever undervalue how glad I am to have such a solid behavioural stooge in Òran.
As a dog who has had a really tough time as a reactive dog following being attacked repeatedly when he was recovering from his neuter as a young dog, he is now my go to choice when needing a stooge for reactive cases.
He's calm, patient, and doesn't fire back. That in itself is testimony to how far he's come.
For all the dogs I work with, I'm always proud of their achievements, but this evening, I'm taking time to celebrate how special this lad is.
🐾 PADS resident Hayley, one of my PADS Project Pups had a massive success today.
We're working on making Hayley more comfortable with greetings to other dogs, and she's come on so much since our first session.
While she struggles with on lead greetings, she actually seems to like pretty much every dog after that initial greeting, and loves playing.
✨ Hayley has been learning how to redirect her over enthusiastic response to greetings into focus back to her handler, how to give herself space from interactions she finds too much and all of this is worked on by helping in making good choices, not punishing reactions, but giving her space to figure things out, giving her the skills to make better decisions, and rewarding the heck out of those golden moments.
📸 The filming is sloppy as I was literally capturing all this solo (while super stooge Òran hung out with a tree!) and it's just as it happened, so excuse the framing and enjoy what is a massively successful moment for this girl.
🏆 I'm so proud of what she achieved today, and the team at PADS work so hard to give the dogs what they need, so this is a team effort.
💜Get in touch with PADS if you think you can help Hayley continue to be a happy, smiley shepherd. She's a superstar with people and full of love and unfathomable volumes of fluff for anyone who has a heart as big as hers.
A wee goodbye video for a few pups who were adventuring with with us for holidays and our golden girl who we'll hope to see again soon.
It's been a pleasure to have them all and they all made a great addition to our regulars.
