Dog owners try behaviourists, trainers, and advice on the internet to help with their dog's problems, but it doesn't always help. Through my work with dog owners, I was beginning to suspect that dogs are often just being dogs, responding to their environment and that they may not have a problem. It

Dog owners try behaviourists, they try trainers, they try advice off google and the bloke down the road. It doesn't always help them. Has that been the case for you?

Every dog owner I have met loves their dog. Most will do anything for them. But I am willing to admit, I couldn't help all of them make the changes they needed to make, to help their dog.

So I tried IEMT on my dog clients!

You see I'm a Canine Behaviour Practitioner, but I'm also an IEMT Practitioner. IEMT is usually used for trauma and PTSD, but I didn't see why it couldn't be used to benefit dogs too.

Only a hand full of people in the world have tried what I'm offering so far. Would your dog like you to give it a go?

Here's a few examples of things I think this new method could help with*:
A dog that wouldn't put their harness on, to go on walks (even with months of fun training), starts walking every day.
A dog that barks on lead and in the house, starts paying attention to their owner instead of barking.
A dog that was too scared to go in the car, decides they'll give it a try and then progresses every day from there.
A dog that doesn't like being left alone, starts to act calmly when they see their owners getting ready to leave them.

IEMT stands for Integral Eye Movement Therapy and helps people process the emotions that might be influencing their dogs behaviour. For example, the dog that used to bark, was nervous because they could tell by their owner's body language, that their owner was nervous. When I helped the owner with their nervousness, the dog no longer thought it had to act that way.

This is new and exciting.
Why not be one of the first to try it?
The first session is free, so why not see if you can be your dog's superhero?!

*I have seen results in these areas, but haven't done any official studies, to meet Advertising Standards Authority requirements. This is why I am offering the first session free, so you can see the potential for your self.

My tips for preparing for firework season.

Pair music with treats every few days, leading up to firework season. Start now. The best noises for this are washing machines and Taiko drums which can be found on YouTube.

Make sure your dog has their collar on just incase they go into fight or flight mode and try running away from the noise.

Go on an earlier walk than normal before it gets dark if there are displays going to be on that day.

Travel out of town to avoid displays if you can.

Keep your dog entertained with enrichment during the day to tire their mind. This can be Kong’s, puzzle toys, scatter feeding or hide and seek.

Stay home with puppies that are first experiencing fireworks as you dont know how they might react.

Introducing a one off dog walk where we walk and talk all things your dog?

I wouldn’t be there to solve all your problems but I would be able to answer your questions and share information, so that you can understand your dog better.

This would include topics such as behaviour, communication, body language, interactions with you, interactions with other dogs, and any questions you have about your dog’s life and routine.

This would be £15 for the walk.
(Price may change in a few months time, depending on demand!) Video calls are an option too.

Did you know that 20 minutes of sniffing is equivalent to an hour's walk for your dog?
One thing that comes up when I go to meet dogs with issues, is understanding their needs.
We often as humans assume they enjoy what we enjoy, and of course they do, but they also have hobbies that they’d like to indulge in!
When we meet their needs, we can give a dog a life that they can really enjoy and it can benefit us as they are calmer in general. Being calmer can mean it’s easier to communicate with them. They will be able to listen to you more and work out what you want them to do. So you both win!
Their needs can be met by attending organised classes such as agility and scent work, but the activities they do there can also be done at home, with a little ingenuity at a fraction of the cost.
Who would like to learn to teach their dog to sniff out a hidden object like a detective dog?
For the next few weeks I will be posting how to do this activity at home, for free. Well, for the price of a teabag, toilet rolls and some dog treats.
Just pop by my group each Thursday for each step. You will be able to ask questions on the day on the post. Doing it this way will keep you progressing with support, so if it doesn’t go according to plan I can put you on the right track. You can also post your successes. I’d love to see some photos.
The process only takes a few minutes and we build the difficulty step by step. It’s a great activity to keep your dog busy in the garden while you’re trying to relax.
The first week's video is on the group now!

I pride myself on running a nonjudgemental group for dog owners, so I love it when my members treat each other with respect too. If a disagreement about how to help a dog comes up, I consider it a chance for everyone to learn and my members support me in this. 🧡
