Fun in the sun at Dreamland Dog Day☀️🐾
Packing up the agility will be much quicker now 🤣🐶
What is really going on here is Emma proofing Luca’s retrieve (fetch) cue. Through training Luca has been able to generalise the retrieve command he knows for a toy or gundog dummy to any item Emma indicates. Generalisation is the ability to perform a behaviour regardless of the scenario or environment. Dogs do not generalise well. It also involves Luca problem solving how best to pick up that item. Notice the marker “yes” as he picks up the item telling him he’s absolutely right in what he’s doing. What a clever boy!
Generalisation is often the issue when the clients tell us “I don’t know why he won’t do it, Fido does it at home”. Being able to do it at home is fantastic and the first step. Don’t be disheartened. That shows your dog can do it! Next task is to proof the behaviour. Retrain it in your back garden, on your driveway or front lawn. Train it in the street, the park, the beach. Increasing levels of distraction until it’s rock solid. You might need to go back to basics and start again from the beginning in each environment. The good news is the more proofing you do the better the dog will become at generalising overall. Once they can perform the exercise at class - outdoors with all the canine distractions - they should be able to do it anywhere.
Happy proofing everyone!
A bit of training for Instructor dogs Luca and Meko. Love how Meko looks to Luca for confirmation of what they are doing in the latter part of the clip. It’s good to have a big bro to ask for advice! Joking aside, dogs do learn from each other 💙💙

A little Scentwork practice with Luca after teaching at the RSPCA centre today. 1cm piece of cloth scented with cloves hidden behind the petrol cap cover. There was a slight breeze which caused the scent to travel toward the front of the vehicle. Lovely solid indication. A little distracted by a bird partway through the search but did return to the job in hand. I love working Luca on scent. Every find amazes me still. Good work pups 🐾🐾
Exciting news 🐾🐾 watch to find out 😁
Some wonderful feedback on our online training course, Enve Canine Services Good Dog Level 1, today. So proud of the progress Rebecca and Lola have made. Looking forward to welcoming them to face to face classes as soon as we can restart.

“Good Dog Level 1 training has been incredible for us. The videos are clear to understand, even for a novice like myself, but covered commands that I don’t know how I ever lived without them! The trainers are wonderful, knowledgeable, and clearly very caring owners, even making sure to address how to handle it when the dog doesn’t understand, or when things go wrong, so I never felt alone while working through the lessons. The biggest fear I had with structured training was it would be too much to keep on top of and we would start to fall behind, but the structure of the course meant we often only needed to do 5-10 minutes a day and started to see progress immediately. Lola adored each session - we noticed she was actually more attentive and more likely to respond to our commands even after the training was finished for the day. Thank you so much to Enve, the transformation has been massive, and more importantly, we’ve all enjoyed it and are keeping up the sessions even after finishing the course!” Rebecca and Lola (2.5yr rescue SBT x boxer(?))
Having a bit of fun in the park. Taking our send away up a level 😁 such a good lad 🐾🐾
