💜WISCK SHOP💜

Remember our WISCK shop is available through our website, some lovely things for sale that have all been donated so 100% of the money goes to caring for cats and kittens right here in the islands

WISCK exists to help improve the quality of life of cats, while reducing the population of feral cats in the islands by trapping, neutering and returning adult ferals to their colonies. Kittens are kept in foster care until they are social and then matched with new owners through social media. The g...

💜AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION💜

This extremely handsome boy was one of the Uist cats from last year, adopted as a barn cat with one of his family.

He however soon decided the barn life was not for him and turned into a complete sook! Unfortunately his family already had a pet cat and she is not happy sharing her home with this guy. It’s not fair on her to not be happy in her home so his owners have decided he really needs to move on, although they adore him. He’s so affectionate and just wants love bless him. So if you have space in your home and heart for this gorgeous boy please get in touch. He’s lived with a child and dog so homes with other pets and kids who are gentle would be ok too

💜ADOPTED💜

This gorgeous wee guy is now available for adoption, here’s what his foster Mum had to say…

He’s the sweetest foster kitty. He loves his toys, loves his food and even loves our dog. But his most favourite thing is snuggling with one of the humans.
He’s used to a busy household, other cats, a calm dog and kids. He’s very clean and has always used his litter tray. He’s on Whiskas kitten food and seems to prefer the gravy.

If you think he’d fit into your family please get in touch, this wee one we feel needs a busier house with extra people to love and some animal friends ♥️

We also have some gorgeous adult cats in care looking for homes and more barn cats available soon. We’d love to hear from people willing to adopt an adult 🐈‍⬛

💜 HOME SAFELY 😺 💜

FAO: TOLSTA AREA!

Has anyone seen our cat Harry?
We moved to Cnoc an Runaire a few weeks ago. He's been out since 10pm last night and is usually home by now. Harry is very friendly, too friendly for his own good!! He will try and come in to your home and chance his luck, make you feel sorry for him cos of his missing limb and beg for food. We don't mind him visiting him if the person doesn't mind but please do not feed him. He is a very loved cat, we worry about him a lot when he isn't home at his usual time and we would just like to know that he is safe. Please get in touch if you have seen him or he's found a cosy spot in your home 🙏🩵

Why We Promote EarTipping

I saw this on a friend’s page and thought it was a great way to explain the importance and reasoning behind ear-tipping. This is a discussion that people doing TNR often have with the community cat caregivers.

"Someone cared enough…

That’s what the corner of that cat’s ear being tipped (cut off) means. Someone cared enough. Enough to take time out of their day for that wild cat. To load up trapping supplies, go to the trapping location, set traps, monitor traps, and wait hours in most cases to fill traps. Then to bring them home in the traps and get them set up somewhere overnight and care for them. To drive them to the vet the next day, wait in line, and check them in for surgery. To pay (or get vouchers) for them to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. If they are extra nice, they pay extra for flea meds and dewormer, knowing it will only last a month, but knowing that might be the only month of reprieve they have in their whole life from being eating alive. They care enough to drive back the next day and pick them up from the vet and in most cases house them for a day or two for recovery. In that time they care for them and make sure they are healing from surgery well. Then they drive them back to the trapping location and release them back to their outdoor home. From there, back home to clean and wash the traps and supplies to be ready for next time. This takes HOURS. Hours for a feral street cat that so many people hate.

So that feral cat you see out there with an ear tip, someone cared enough to take the time to give them a better life. To stop the cycle. To try to tackle the overpopulation and suffering. To help curb the testosterone driven territorial fights and spraying. To help that female not get pyometria from having litter after litter until she dies. To try to keep the numbers down so less people threaten their lives.

That indoor cat with the ear tip…someone cared a little extra. They saw that cat had potential to thrive in a life off the streets and they gave them that chance. They worked with them to overcome their fears so they wouldn’t live that harsh street life with a much shorter life expectancy than indoor cats.

That ear tip is how us trappers identify a cat that has already been spayed/neutered. It is a quick way to look at a feral cat and know if they have been fixed or not. This helps us not trap the same cats and send them through the stress of transport to the vet repeatedly, because we can see they have already been fixed. If a cat with an ear tip ends up in the trap, we can just release them immediately and keep trying until we get a cat that is not ear tipped.

Some people don’t like how the ear tip looks, or how painful it might be (it’s done under anesthesia during their spay/neuter surgery)… But that ear tip is a badge of honor. Someone cared enough."

💜ADOPTED💜

All these beautiful wee boys are now looking for their new homes and families. Please send a PM stating which kitten you’re interested in and telling us a bit about you and your family.

Here’s what their fosters had to say about them…

Tabby boy
Well this one is actually ready to go I think!!! Hard to believe he was actually feral as has been quite tame from day 1. As soon as I approach him, he lies down & rolls over for belly rubs, like a wee dog!!! Has been uncaged since day 4. Full of mischief, scared of nothing!! Great with cat & dog. Very cuddly & purry!!

Black and White boy
I think our one would probably also benefit from going to his forever home. He is still nervous but just loves cuddles so much he drools with happiness. He is okay with cats and dogs but would probably benefit from a quieter house where he can relax and build confidence.

Grey Boy
Hi this boy now ready, he’s been so good will play about with the toys but with this good weather he’s been sunning himself in his fave spot at the window if he’s not there he’s by the fire in his bed. fine with both the cats and dog.

♥️VALENTINE WISHES♥️

We are asking for the love of cats please Neuter and Spay!

We are sure many of you remember little Suki from S.Uist who came into care last year with an awful eye infection having lived in a feral colony. Last week Suki went to Inverness to have her scheduled eye removal having been in care all this time getting healthy and being loved by an amazing family, both human and feline. However tragedy struck as while Suki was anaesthetised she went into distress and she sadly passed away. We are all absolutely devastated at this loss as we nor the vets could ever have imagined she was unwell, she was living her best life and playful and energetic. As it was so unexpected we asked for an autopsy to be carried out to determine the cause and find out if she had underlying health issues that weren’t evident. The results came back yesterday and there were a host of awful conditions she had been suffering from hidden, not showing any symptoms!

We truly feel we did everything possible to ensure wee Suki got to live a great life however there were just too many viruses present in her breeding. It’s absolutely heartbreaking for us and we’re sure many of you who have followed her story.

Next this week tabby guy, he came into care from a pet cat, he too had an eye infection. After several weeks of treatment the ulcer in his eye is gone as is the infection but he has been left blind in one eye too!

Please please help us to get the word out there to all of our island communities. This has to stop! People just don’t see the horrors, pain and suffering that constant breeding causes! These two babies are just a drop in the ocean to the illnesses we see day after day in cats and kittens. How can people claim to love cats yet let them be born to suffer like this? Please educate your family and friends when you hear them say their cat would ‘love kittens’, ‘just one litter won’t do any harm’, ‘aww but they’re so cute’. Cats are selfish animals, they don’t want to be Mums! They want love and care and treats and food! Being a parent hasn’t ever crossed their mind!

🥰This Valentines show your love of cats by remembering our amazing, special, brave little girl Suki and book your cats in to be neutered! 🥰

💜Barra and South Uist💜

Again this last week we visited the Southern Isles to assist our colleagues at Uist Cat Rescue who don’t have the resources or space that we have. It was a long hard week trapping in all sorts of conditions. Rain, hail and the odd bit of sunshine. The highlight being managing to release Hucknall, safely neutered back to his own stomping ground. The lows were however numerous. Seeing the condition of some of the cats trapped in South Uist is just beyond upsetting for our team. We urgently need your help and support to get the 29 cats rescued vet treatment and neutered!

This situation needs to be brought under control and the only way to do this is by neutering the entire colony so our work there is far from done!

Practical help is also urgently required to help with the day to day care of having so many cats and kittens here at Cat Central so if anyone can spare an hour or two at 9 am any day of the week please get in touch! You wouldn’t be expected to do anything alone, just assist in the practical cat care needed with one of our trained volunteers. We would be immensely grateful for any help you can offer. There are some really sweet cats and caring for them really isn’t a chore.

If you can’t help in any physical way, please donate on the links below and if you can’t do either then PLEASE SHARE!

💜Adoption💜

This gorgeous Uibhseach neutered Tom is ready for his new home. He was trapped in an old Byre in South Uist with 30 odd other cats and kittens, as well as cows. He went to get neutered and on retun started to show signs of becoming friendly so he went to live with one of our fosterers. He is now enjoying a more refined life in the warm, cosy home of his fosterer and he is loving his second chance at life.
If.you feel you could give this very handsome boy a new home, please read the adoption policy and message our page..

💜 Back To Barra 💜

Happy day today, handsome Hucknell has been released back home after his trip to the big Island to be neutered. We had all hoped he’d fall in love with us and become a pet cat however Huck had other ideas. He hated us, didn’t want to make friends with a single one of us and we can’t blame him. Why would he want to live anywhere but Barra when he has several houses that feed him lots of yummy treats in a stunning part of the world.

Makes it all worthwhile seeing them released knowing they’ll have a happier, safer, longer life neutered and no longer fighting on a daily basis.

Good luck Hucknell you handsome man, we’ll miss you 🥰

‼️MISSING FROM BORVE‼️

Please can you check sheds or outbuildings in case this guy is locked in. He could also have got in a car or van so if you spot him in any area of the island please get in touch. His owners are very concerned and send this message

Our Cat still hasn't returned home since Thursday afternoon. He's never even late for his meal times. We live in Borve on the West side of Lewis.

I'm thinking he must have jumped in a car or van. Please if you see him could you let me know. We are really missing him.

Thank you

💜BARN CATS💜

These pretty sisters are still looking for a barn to call their own bless them. They’re dying to be out and about again hunting all the mice and rats that are eating your animal feed so please get in touch if you can offer them a dry sheltered place to call their own.

We don’t ask for an adoption fee for barn cats, although we do appreciate donations obviously as it costs us lots of money to neuter and care for them. Our priority is a safe space for them to live with someone kind willing to feed them once or twice a day.
