NEFRA hosted a Working Retriever Assessment (WRA) and training day yesterday at David Foster’s ground in Burton Salmon near Leeds.

Training for both beginner and novice dogs took place in the morning with the WRA taking place in the afternoon.

Two dogs successfully passed the assessment; Rochelle Richards with Hopevalley Morning River Through Kimberfield and Anne Haley with SkyBrook If By Chance. This was Rochelle’s third successful assessment which means she has completed the Novice level and has been awarded her novice working retriever certificate.

Huge thanks to Garry Ellison, trainer and assessor for the day and David Foster for the use of his amazing land.

Special thanks to Andy Sweeney and Garry Ellison for their excellent training, advice and invaluable feedback, to Helen Fox for her excellent hospitality including cakes, sausage rolls, Prosecco and sloe gin, to the landowner for use of their excellent grounds and to Malcolm and Robert for dummy throwing - we couldn’t run these days without all these wonderful people. Frowback Friday - 6 May 2013. You know, being a member of NEFRA isn’t just about the dogs, it’s about the people you meet, the places you go to and the experiences. This photo was taken at a NEFRA day at Claughton-on-Brock in a small patch of woodland where we were working our dogs. I hope it makes you smile. 😊 Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.

Yesterday saw NEFRA organise a great KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme Assessment day in south Derbyshire.

Fueled by coffee and cake, participants, both members, and non-members alike, engaged in bronze and silver assessments on the grounds provided by Paula Goulette. It's worth noting that the cake and coffee served surpassed even NEFRA's high standards, adding an extra touch of enjoyment to the proceedings.

Our assessor for the day was Helen Chambers.

Dogs that passed the bronze assessment were Amanda with 'Lincoln', Amanda with 'Delorian', Paula with 'Merlin', Margaret with 'Sam' and Lindsay with 'Cosmo'

Dogs that passed the silver assessment were Claire with 'Tilly', Frances with 'Skye', Hilary with 'Bryn', Caroline with 'Linnhe' and Michelle with 'Walter'

Many thanks to all who helped make this day a success. Congratulations on all the handlers and their dogs for their richly deserved successes.

Brenda's daughter has said that as Brenda didn't want flowers etc. a donation to St Michaels hospice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for choosing to make a donation to Saint Michael’s. Your gift will help us ensure people and their families living with terminal illness and bereavement can make the most of precious time together.

There has been yet more sad news this week as the flatcoat family have lost two more great friends: Brenda Adams and Maureen Scott.

Brenda was a founder member, served on our committee in the early years of NEFRA and in later years served as our litter recorder. She loved NEFRA events and we loved seeing her at our events, often found beavering away in the kitchen. We respect her family's wishes who have requested no cards or flowers. There will be no funeral ceremony.

Maureen Scott (Branchalwood) was judge at our first championship show with Frank Kane and was also a long time supporter of the breed. Pictured below awarding our first Bitch CCs. She was a well respected breeder, exhibitor and show judge. Our thoughts are also with Maureen's family.
