Dwarf Chain Loaches are an ideal choice for the smaller peaceful aquarium community. They are best maintained in large shoals, 5 being considered the minimum number. The substrate should consist of fine sand in order to protect the delicate barbel area, and it should be furnished with numerous hiding places amongst bogwood, caves, and aquatic plants.

They also love to eat baby snails and enjoy a treat of baby brineshrimp

🐟 Red Whiptail Catfish (Red Lizard Catfish) 🐟

This peaceful, slender fish is a real eye-catcher for planted aquariums. They do best in groups of 6+ in a mature tank with shady hiding spots among plants, driftwood, or caves. Keep them with gentle tankmates like small tetras, pencilfish, Corydoras, or dwarf cichlids. Avoid pushy feeders, as these calm little catfish won’t compete well.

🍽️ Feeding: Omnivores that enjoy a mix of sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen foods (bloodworm, daphnia, cyclops), and regular veggie treats such as cucumber, zucchini, or kale.

💡 Breeding: Quite possible in the home aquarium. Males are slimmer and grow bristly “sideburns” when mature. They guard eggs in caves (up to ~50), which hatch in 6–8 days. Fry become free-swimming a few days later and can be fed baby brine shrimp, crushed foods, and soft veggies.

✨ A delicate, charming catfish that adds both elegance and character to any peaceful community setup

We’ve got plenty of these lovely, unusual fish well settled in our fish house at Fishkeeper Melville - Edinburgh ready for their new homes 🧡
