Can you spot the sand these two guys are spitting out?

Eartheater Cichlids (Geophagus species) have the coolest way of eating! They scoop up mouthfuls of sand or gravel, sift through it to find food, and then spit out what they don’t need. 🐟✨

Not only is this behavior fascinating to watch, but it also helps keep the tank substrate clean and aerated. These fish are as practical as they are beautiful!

The Pearl Gourami is really easy to look after, even if you’re new to fishkeeping. If you keep a little group, you’ll see how social and calm they are—it’s nice to watch them cruising around 🐟

These fish grow to about 12cm, they require a larger tank with plenty plants. They feed on flakes, pellets and frozen foods. They love brine shrimp and daphnia! 😋

Our little Betta loves Catappa leaves, also called Indian Almond leaves. These offer several benefits in naturally providing antibacterial and antifungal properties and acting as a hiding spot for fish.

This also serves as a food source for small invertebrates like shrimp, and creating a more natural environment for fish that thrive in acidic, tannin-rich water; particularly beneficial for Betta fish and other blackwater fish species.

Marbled Hatchets are back in stock at Fishkeeper Braehead 🥳 These adorable and quirky fish like to spend most of their time near the surface and are great companions for small peaceful fish. Come and check them out 🐠

The Threadfin Rainbowfish at Fishkeeper Inverness are looking stunning 😍 A tiny gem best kept in a group in a well planted aquarium with other peaceful fish. The males have long fin filaments and both sexes showcase extremely beautiful colour and behaviour 😍

It’s afternoon snack time at Fishkeeper Braehead but we’re not sure where all these Kuhli loaches have come from 🤔 We could have sworn there were only 3 in the tank - they are masters of hide and seek until food shows up 🫣

Our Penguin Tetra at Fishkeeper Perth really do love a little waddle 🐧 Perfect schooling fish for any good sized community tank with no long fins

It can sometimes be a struggle to get fancy clownfish to host anemones but this lovely lady has made herself right at home at Fishkeeper Dunfermline

Torpedo Barbs (Sahyadria denisonii) are a larger Barb growing to about 15cm that can handle a wide range of temperatures. 🌡️ A fish that really catches the eye with its bright red stripe and subtle yellow colouration, these fish thrive best in large planted aquaria with plenty of room to stretch their fins ❤️ Below a video of some in our temperate display tank at Fishkeeper Inverness with some Rainbowfish, Garda, Corydora and others

Our Siamese algae eaters at Fishkeeper Stirling have been hard at work! 💪 These industrious little guys get to around 15cm and are best kept in groups. They are amazing at tackling furry algae!

One of our male Double Red Cockatoo Apistogramma at Fishkeeper Inverness ❤️😍 Apistogramma are a dwarf cichlid from South America that thrive in pairs in well planted community tanks with soft water and a low ph 🌱 Whilst territorial when breeding, they are otherwise a relatively placid cichlids but they may predate on shrimp and really small fish! 🦐 A cave is also a good addition to their tank as they will claim it as a ‘home’ and use to breed and relax 🏡
