Guess the creepy crawly!? The creature you can see down the microscope here is a mite called, Psoroptes Ovis, more commonly called Sheep Scab! It is highly infectious and causes itchy skin, wool loss, and poor performance in sheep!
Guess the creepy crawly?!?
Extra happy chappy in for his first vaccine and microchip today! 🐶
Do ‘ewe’ buy in replacement ewes? In a recent survey carried out by Ceva Animal Health and the NSA, nearly half of those questioned reported that they buy in replacements. However over 60% did not keep them separate from their flock until after they had lambed, putting the whole unvaccinated flock at risk of infection. Biosecurity and vaccination go hand-in-hand to prevent EAE – reducing the risk of the disease entering the farm alongside vaccinating the whole flock in year one and future replacement ewe thereafter will dramatically reduce the impact of EAE.
