We are a professional, experienced dog walking service that takes pride in treating every pet as if it was our own. We provide enriched, positive dog walks in South Sheffield, taking advantage of the parks, woods and countryside Sheffield has to offer. We pride ourselves in positive socialisation and flexibility to adjust for individual dog's needs. We offer sociable off lead group walks, shorter

on lead group walks, paired walks, solo walks and structured puppy walks. We also offer pet sitting at customers own homes, a pet taxi service for customers, small animal visits, adventure days and wedding services. Dog and Bone Club is run by Lindsey Walker and Zara Maun, we have four beautiful dogs, Whippet's Syd and George, Lurcher Bob and Chi Pablo, who we love dearly. We specialise in Sighthounds and have many years experience with their quirks. We do also take in many other breeds. It is SO important to keep up to date with science and holistic based dog education. We all attend many courses, webinars and classes so we can provide the best possible experience for your dogs. We also have an awesome team who ensure we are able to provide the flexibility and correct group for your dog. We provide a free meet and greet consultation - We will visit you and your pet at your home to discuss all of your needs. This will provide us with the opportunity to get to know each other, for us to answer any questions that you may have and of course to meet your adorable companion.

Your pets safety and wellbeing are of utmost importance to us. We are DBS checked, fully insured and we are qualified in pet first aid so you can be assured that your pets are in great care. Any questions or enquires please do feel free to message us, we are super friendly so don't feel shy if your dog has some quirks.

Last week I heard someone to refer to wellies as ‘puddle punchers’ and I was delighted and horrified at the same time.
The snow took the final onion layer from the floor and we are now walking on pure clay. No puddles to punch for us, just bogs of mud soup. There is one path which in true Sheffield style is almost vertical, combined with clay I really do embody a Tony Hawks character going down it which brings me great joy. I got down it sideways and all like I’m on a skateboard. The dogs however look at me in a judgemental way and remark that evolution wasn’t so helpful was it, 4 legs on the floor would be more than helpful here, but then would I need puddle punchers for my hands too?
Who was your Tony Hawks character btw? Mine was Bob Burnquist.

**Sold out** please let us know if you’d like to be on the waiting list.

👋 👃 Rachel is trialling a new scent work class and is offering a very reduced price of £5 a class in exchange for feedback. 4 places available, Thursday evenings although she can be flexible if there’s a better day for the group ♥️

This is a fun easy breezy class designed for everyone. It’s not a competitive class because that’s not our vibe.
She’s made some really fun games for once you’ve learnt the basics and you can have a really good giggle while you play them.

Scentwork is a great activity for all dogs, young and old. It’s a perfect opportunity to give your dog an opportunity to exercise their brain and bond together. With the lead up to Christmas it’s the perfect opportunity to give your dog some time away from the chaos. I think I like the word opportunity today.

This is a class suitable for all dogs, however although the dogs aren’t interacting with each other they will need to be able to tolerate other dogs in the same space as themselves, be that a large space. There will be opportunities in the future for 1:1 classes.

If you’d like to try out drop me a direct message and Rachel will add you to her group chat to arrange classes 😄

Ok, few pre snow snaps for your pleasure, apologies for the delay I’ve been arranging some fun classes for you all for next year!
I was thinking it’s about time I dedicated a post to the Hyacinth Bucket character that I met and subsequently bought a Laura Ashley rug from as she felt it didn’t match her spare bedroom set in the way she wanted. Although she doesn’t know it, that rug has been the fundamental underpinning foundation for boss level car comfort for the dogs. A lot of you know by now that I’m a little obsessed with car comfort, mainly because I love dogs to be happy but equally, it’s a two way street and I don’t want dogs barking and vomiting in the car. So this years focus since I moved out of L’s van is operation living room, because where is a dogs favourite place?
A big driver in this mission was to have agency of movement while still being in a legally safe space and to have a higher up spot for dogs that like to be elevated. We have ‘Space Mountain’ which is a digging spot with a mountain of blankets that can be balled up, an unnamed squishy space to recreate a sofa, a basket for the dogs that like to be in a smaller space and then I’ve got ‘Pab’s tropical corner’ which has a heater so those toy dogs can close their eyes and imagine they’re on a tropical beach somewhere (and then cry when they realise it’s not a real beach).
I think I’ve got one final change to make to round it off which I’ll do over the festive break and maybe that’s the point where I also need to add a few extra comfort pieces perhaps.. a rug on the wall maybe? What else? Net curtains? I’d like proper curtains but I’d never be able to reverse 🤪

I normally post what the dogs are listening to in the car but I have unfortunately broken the Bluetooth attachment which was fantastic as it smelt like burning fish in the process, so we have been wading through Radio 4 for the past week and I can confirm that we are all knees deep into the Archers storyline even though we all absolutely hate it.

I was convinced that the car was haunted by the previous owner as it kept flicking to Link FM which seemingly is programmed into all 6 of the radio slots, but it turns out there are a whole host of buttons that I didn’t even know existed that I had accidentally been touching. The dogs seemingly like it, perhaps it’s because I can’t really sing along to it although I am most definitely trying and I am also 2 adverts away from driving us all to Lahore grill and renting us the family room out although I’ll probably need to disguise us all as cats.

We have welcomed some lovely new faces over the past couple of weeks and we’re happy to say that they’re all settling in great so a big warm welcome to them all. 👋
Rachel has taken on Zoe’s round which means I’m pleased to say that we now cover all of S12 so exciting times there if you’re around that area and have been eyeing up our services.

I’m really sad that Zoe’s from Pingy Paws has hung up her walking boots as she was a really awesome dog walker but in good news, we’re going to be teaming up with her to host guest events and seminars 🙌🙌🙌

We’re looking at starting with a workshop on how to spot hidden pain in dogs for both professionals and pet parents. If there’s anything you’d really like to see let us know!

Rachel is also trialling her scentwork course this week and it will be available for bookings really soon! How cool is that!

🐾🐾What’s the difference between the dog services when you go away?🐾 🐾

🐕Dog sitting (which is what we do) is the most expensive service. This is 1:1 care in your home, your dog’s routine changes as little as possible, there’s as little upheaval as humanly possible for your dog. It is the least stressful service for your dog. You should expect to pay between £45-120+ a day for this service. Check with your dog sitter how long your dog will be left for and if they understand the basics of behaviour. They will need insurance and a DBS check as minimum.

🐶Dog boarding. This is a middle ground service. There is normally around 8-12 dogs ish in a house and boarding facilities will have variable amounts of knowledge. Some are excellent, knowledgeable, know how to set fair boundaries with the dogs and understand body language. Some however allow 24 hour play, the dogs are constantly barking and don’t sleep. ASK QUESTIONS. Anticipate for your dogs to be on crate rotate or on room rotate. ALL BORDERS SHOULD BE LICENSED WITH THE COUNCIL, ask for the license, if not your dogs are not insured even it is through a 3rd party app. Expect to pay around £25-50 per day.

🐾Kennels. This is the cheapest option for dog care. Dogs will have a secure area alone, with some services they will have a little company here and there and there will be some kind of paddock for exercise however in some cases dogs will only have a run attached to their kennel. This can be a very stressful environment for a lot of dogs however some dogs do ok in these facilities. This is often the only option for human reactive dogs. Expect to pay between £15-30 a day.

From April 2025 our dog sitting service availability will be decreasing. You might have noticed that a lot of overnight dog services have been closing and that’s because it’s a part of the job where professionals can’t switch off from work for huge chunks of time and the hourly rate is abysmal. We will of course be keeping our favourites on the books for sitting, we LOVE our favourites and do ask, just be prepared for us to be booked up further in advance with the extra demand on less dates (we have a booking for 2026!)

🍂🍁This is cosy weather now isn’t it? 🍁🍂
I’m normally on the hunt for carob based products this time of year because I’m not bothered by chocolate. Before you start gasping, I did read that there’s something in your gut that determines if you love chocolate or find it meh so I know there’s more of you out there. I did get really scoffed at for asking for carob in one shop one year ‘it’s not the 90s love’, he was clearly not a dog lover because if he was he would have known that you can share a little bit with your dog unlike chocolate 🐕 😋

Anyway, I have been musing a little bit. I’ve seen so many elaborate discussions on the internet and in person. All of these these tools and training for people to do when their dogs are struggling in the car. I always have a little chuckle every time I see these. Why? Because no one wants to consider that it’s their driving that’s the problem. It’s a pretty humbling experience having a nervous human passenger in the car because they’re going to, in a lot of cases communicate every single minuscule issue with your driving. So instead of jumping into a routine that would make cirque du soleil proud, maybe consider if it’s the way you’re breaking and accelerating, the way you’re travelling around corners, over speed bumps and pot holes or swearing at the twentieth person that’s cut you up.
If you’ve got a dog rolling around in a crate with a tiny bit of vet bedding in the dark while you’re hurtling down the motorway, you can put yourself in that situation and realise that that could be absolutely terrifying. Add pain into that mix and you get a dog that doesn’t want to travel with you. Reassurance and comfort goes a long way 🧡 don’t forget that. You don’t need to over complicate everything.

🥁 🪘Our big announcement!!! 📢 📣
We have joined up with The Greens for a little side quest that we are all ridiculously excited about!

Please welcome Moss Valley Tails to the Dog and Bone Club family. We are located down Lightwood Lane S8 Sheffield, we have a fully secure indoor barn to hire for 1:1 sessions and for class hire. We will be hosting some of our own classes and fun arty events there too so please do follow our new socials. If you know someone wanting to host classes or events please put them in touch with us ☺️
We will also be slowly working on a calming ‘rest and digest’ garden for dogs and Shetland ponies 🧡

We are super friendly.

Nothing will change about our Dog and Bone service aside from our social media will occasionally also feature some helpful content of some of our most commonly asked questions 🙌

We would of course appreciate you following and sharing our journey Moss Valley Tails and hopefully we will also see some of you down there!

Our wonderful firecracker, Ginger aka Ginger the Ninja sadly crossed the rainbow bridge last week. 🌈

Ginger most definitely made the most of her innings on earth. Spanning 2 continents, she was 3847 years old, she had 4 Dog and Bone Club walkers, walked for 784 years with the club, consumed 18320 snacks with us, spent 200 hours of being the little spoon on dog sits and scaled 9270 7 foot walls in a single jump to look at frogs.
I’m telling you know, the Paris 2024 gymnastics athletes were quaking in their boots when they heard she was thinking of competing 😉

I’ve never met another dog quite like Ginger, she had a strong personality in the best possible way. She knew what she liked, she knew what she didn’t like, she wasn’t worried about telling you her opinion on something and that’s what made her such a fantastic dog to be around.

She didn’t let age slow her down, despite graduating from group walks to solos she still enjoyed meeting her toy boy Mac, the long legged JRT at the freedom field for a zoom and she was a great nonna to Ann 😁 checking out her new cottage and the surrounding areas ensuring it was good enough for her.

We will all miss Ginger loads, from her funny little bum poking out the back of her coat to her rolling around in the grass face first. She was a fabulous and they’ll never be another Ginger.

What a lovely week it was last week, we have welcomed in some new faces to the crew, the S8 map is finally back in my head minus the Norton Lees estate and the dogs and who live with kids are all rejoicing on having uninterrupted day time snoozes. 😊

So we do have an exciting big announcement to make later this week and we also have a sad post which I am currently writing. In the mean time I will pause as not to overload you with content and let you enjoy this autumnal feeling Monday 🧡

Lovely Milo is looking for a new home. If you know anyone suitable or can share this post we would be very appreciative 🧡

Milo is a super sweet Poodle x Patterdale, he currently walks in Rachel’s off lead group where he has built up a tonne of confidence.

He’s a bright, young, healthy dog, he can be left comfortably for periods of time, friendly with dogs, great in the house and car.

He is currently struggling living in a very busy area and the owners have a full on lifestyle which he is finding very overwhelming. He would prefer a slower life in a home on a quieter street with a garden.

He would like to be in a home where the owners will help him feel safe, take him on lovely countryside adventures and build his confidence in a kind way. He would not be suitable to live with small children as they are quite scary to him and he is currently quite scared of strange men.

We really think he will absolutely thrive and be a wonderful companion in the right home. 🧡

He is a neutered male with no health issues. Owner is more than happy to set up a trial before commitment, they want the absolute best for Milo.

Please let us know if you’d like to be in touch with the owners and I will pass on your details 🙂

Zdravo! Hope you’re all having a wonderful bank holiday. We had the most excellent time away, although it appears that being away meant the entire S8 map pootled from my head on my return 😆 isn’t the brain great.
Anyway, it’s all a go at Dog and Bone Club, everyone that dog sits is sitting, Rachel is finishing her Scentwork course and is about to start lesson planning, Lindsey is starting a grooming course this week with the aims of being able to offer consent based grooming, Craig has started to put very early thoughts into functional movement and what we can do to benefit D&BC dogs with it, oh and I’ve had to do a short course on filming myself for social media which is as horrifying as you can imagine for a millennial who only takes forced selfies on holiday because I have the longest arms. We do have some other exciting announcements but we’ll share that later in the week 😜 happy Monday!

Hello everyone! We’re going to be handing over the reigns to our trusty team while we take a week off work. Thanks to team D&BC in advance! 🧡🧡 You are all amazing.

We’ve all been driving (sailing) down Woodseats High Street like that scene out of the Titanic, good gosh don’t the school holidays clear up the roads! It’s been wonderful! Although I’ve been listening to the Breakfast Club soundtrack instead of Celine Dion. So Don’t You Forget About Me (us) while we’re away (the crowd groans!). 😄

We do have a really exciting announcement to make when we get back so hold onto your hats for that one 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Have a fantastic week, be nice to each other. If anyone decides to spurt some casual fascism to any of us, we don’t want to hear it and I’ll let you know that half my family came to the UK as refugees because of fascism.

18/07/2024

I have spent the week theorising that humanity began its co-existing relationship with our canine companions after we realised that houses are horrible, quiet and possibly haunted without them. I do wonder if the plot would change in a haunting situation if the human presumed everything was because of the dog.
Poltergeist swinging your nans special cutlery around the room? Lurcher having a mad minute. Tapping footsteps? Your dog needs the toilet. Scratching noise on the wall? Someone called Alan in the 1970s bought a DIY book and decided to use a loaf of bread to insulate a wall, the damp weather has reignited the smell and your dog is overjoyed that you’ve left some enrichment for them.
Dragging noise outside? You live at the top of the hill and once again the winds knocked your bin over, much to the joy of your dog who’s partying with the contents across your garden.
Blood pouring down the walls? Your dog has had enough of its slow feeder and thrown it across the room.
Bruce Willis sat in your front room? Well my dogs are cool, I can totally see why he’s hanging out with them.
So every time your dogs mega excited to splash around in a disgusting muddy stinky puddle, just think, if they weren’t around, your house would be haunted!
