Tom Daly season
Though lacking both style and grace 🫠
There are worse offices than this in the world I reckon 😀
Bit of a change in the weather today!
No music for a change (which is usually covering me dying on the bike!) so you can enjoy how beautiful the morning was 😀 there’s something amazing about being up and out before the rest of the world
And enjoying their ProDog Raw Revive and Goats Milk for afters 😀
The team were ecstatic to be running this morning 🫣
Yay Cumbrian weather!! 🌨️
The definition of small but mighty 🐾
Marvels 8kg and 12”tts
My bikes pushing 34 km/h and i still cannot catch her
I can’t test her any faster, because I hit my own limit 🤣
I honestly don’t think I’d want to live anywhere else ⛰️
No work related posts today, just my own wee dogs having a leg stretch 🤗
Impulse control training is VITAL
This young Lab is already learning to work and train with her owner even when her reward is accessible and on offer
This is a lovely foundation exercise, and teaching a Labrador to come past and away from food when she knows that is her reward? It’s certainly a good start 😅
What a lovely partnership 👏
Last nights obedience class, a human free zone 😅
Do I recommend healthy dogs? Absolutely!
Do I recommend fit dogs? Not necessarily…
I was thinking about this a couple of days ago because it seems like such a strange thing to say, you don’t recommend that people’s dogs are fit?
So I’ll try to explain…
At the moment, I’d say my dogs are pretty fi. They’re currently training often and working quite nicely, their food has increased and they are looking pretty trim
But. Alongside this are the negatives; my schedule now HAS TO accommodate maintaining their fitness.
The reason for this is that they now have a certain baseline of stimulation which is higher than usual, and without that there is fallout. They are more demanding in the house, they are more energetic and need more of an outlet. As long as their needs are met there is no issue. But if I suddenly stopped all exercise tomorrow I would be living a pretty stressful life 😅 and so would they!!
But that’s a responsibility I now take, and because I keep to this fitness schedule they are happy and have all the outlet they need.
But to the random Joe Bloggs down the road who perhaps doesn’t connect the dots? Leathering a dog to keep it quiet in the house is only creating an athlete, one that you will continuously need to increase the exercise of to keep tiring the dog to that extent. And if you don’t keep on top of, will create and unhappy unfulfilled dog, who will likely start to look elsewhere for an outlet. If you want a tired dog, look for an alternative to exercise… athletes aren’t always that fun to live with 😅
Keep your dog healthy and active 100%, but be aware of just how fit of a dog you want that to be 😏 your dog will enjoy it for sure, but you need to make sure you’re not creating a rod for your own back!
The definition of “it’s okay it’s friendly” 🫠
I purposely left my dogs off the lead so they had the ability to move away as they chose to, as this isn’t our first meeting with these dogs. As you can see the owner already has her hands full leaving the other two for me to deal with, do you think this is appropriate and fair? And irrelevant of intent, is this control? 🤔
If you have 30 seconds and want to smile, watch this video.
The ending just cracks me up 😄
“I throw a ball for my dogs” 🙋♀️😮
We’ve all seen the recent posts about how detrimental ball throwing is for a dogs mental and physical states
But I challenge that “across the board” notion, and here’s why
When you think of ball throwing and see the posts, what comes to mind? Typically someone wandering their dog to a field with a ball launcher and running the dog up and down the field time after time until fatigue hits and it’s walked home. Until it’s repeated the following day.
Is that really the only think we can think to do with a ball…?
This video is an exercise I do with MY dogs. MY version of ball throwing and why I think it’s actually beneficial to them. Hulks…
Perhaps not recovering as well as I’d hoped if I’m honest with myself and certain exercises burn him out and recovery time is long in comparison to before his illness.
But he loves this and it’s a great workout
Some examples of what we can work on here: impulse control, strength, balance and proprioception and scentwork. A physical and mental workout. Can you see any other benefits?
Ball throwing doesn’t HAVE to be detrimental. Think outside the box 🙂
For those working through behaviour modification (reactivity, separation anxiety etc) training can sometimes feel slow and often very emotion based
I always think it’s a nice idea to combine “heavy” training with light training. Incorporating tricks or brain games to help keep you both motivated to work together and achieve small successes quickly and often against your larger tasks you are working with elsewhere
So, every day this week I’ll post something “useless” I’ve taught my dogs. It’s not for anything particular, but my passion is shaping behaviours and all of these have been picked up through this. So first one up; the Shuffle
While people make jokes all year about the Lake District and our poor weather, on times like this we are blessed
Forestry one way, Lakes the other and the beach in between. Enjoy 30 seconds of happy dogs 🙂
Early morning and late night walks like these really take the guilt out of lazy days while we enjoy this teeny tiny British summertime 😄
And not to worry… we’re forecast for rain tomorrow!!
The joys of running dogs in the dark 🤦♀️ mind this is a new one on me!
Poor Marvel ran straight into trouble face-first this evening
We were all running nicely on the track and then next minute a yelp and a leap to the side, and two very surprised animals had collided in to one another!
We checked him over and he was eating berries straight afterwards so was none the worse after the collision, but will definitely keep an eye out for him again in the future!!
