☀️☀️☀️ 🐶 🐕 🐶 ☀️☀️☀️
We suggest to try and walk your dogs early in the mornings or later on in the evening to avoid the high temperatures, and remember to test the heat of the pavement/road with your own hand, if you cannot keep it down for long then do not walk your dog on it. Their paws can be easily burnt on hot pavements. Also synthetic turf is 40-70 degrees hotter than surrounding air temperatures, so avoid this for your dogs too.

We are incredibly excited to announce that we are finalists in the 2024 Petplan and ADCH Charity Awards for Team of the Year!

We would like to say an enormous ‘thank you’ to everyone who kindly nominated our charity for this award, it truly means the world to us.

We’re super proud of our Wingletang team in Devon for all their continuous hard work & dedication to the rescue animals in our care, and for making such a big difference to our communities.

To reach this stage of the awards is an amazing achievement for the team, and a wonderful way to recognise & celebrate their commitment to giving our rescue animals the very best care and welfare possible, and finding their loving forever homes.

To read more about the awards and to view all finalists, please visit Petplan UK's website here: https://www.petplan.co.uk/about-petplan/charities for details.

We wish the other finalists the very best of luck, and we’ll keep all our fingers crossed!

Calling all Staffie lovers!

Introducing the handsome Terry, who is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that is nearly 6 years old and is looking for his forever home.

Terry is a happy boy who loves to be around his carers. As he is such a sociable chap, we believe he would like to find a home where someone will be around for most of the day.

In return, we are sure that Terry will shower his new owners with kisses and cuddles, and keep them entertained with his glorious personality!

Terry has been enjoying his daily exercise at the centre, and he has made some canine friends that he's happy to share his time in the field with.

However, we believe that Terry would be best suited to a home where he'll be the only pet, as he utterly adores his human companions, and hasn't had to share his affections previously.

As he is still a fairly youthful lad, Terry enjoys going for a good walk each day and he would love to keep his new family company on their outings.

Then, at the end of the day, he would like nothing more than to have a good snuggle and snooze with his new 'paw-rents'!

Due to Terry's sociable nature, we feel that he could potentially live with older children, following successful introductions.

If you have a Terry-sized hole in your heart to fill, then please head to our website at: www.mgar.org.uk/54462 and contact the team at Wingletang, who would love to tell you all about this lovely chap.

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time and while there is a little bit of a wait, it is finally happening! 🎉

We’ve known for a long time that shock/e-collars are unnecessary for teaching our dogs and cause unnecessary pain and suffering.

A number of countries in a world also have already had them banned, alongside Wales in the UK, and dogs there are not somehow all being euthanised or mauling people all the time.

Because of course not. These tools do not make dogs or anyone else safer.

Some excuses we might hear are along the lines of “leashes can break” or “dogs can escape their leashes”, but shock/e-collars can just as well malfunction, and run out of battery. On top of that, dogs can develop a punishment callous and start to ignore the shock. And on top on top of that, if our dogs are now shocked around certain stimuli regularly (e.g. livestock), they can start to see that stimuli as a threat and react defensively towards them.

We must do better for our dogs and our dogs absolutely deserve better! It’s so important that we refrain from aversive tools like shock/e-collars not just for a dog’s wellbeing, but for the safety of everyone around too. I do hope a ban on prong collars and choke chains will come next, but this is a great first step.

But for now, this win for dogs should be celebrated. The future is indeed force-free. ❤️

Find out more at : https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/shockcollarsbanned

ID: The text on the top says “We are finally banning electronic shock collars in England!” And next to this is a small celebratory icon. Under this is a smaller text that says “Coming into effect in 1 Feb 2024”. Under this is a cat out picture of Dave, a brown Singapore Special dog with pointy ears and a curly tail, sitting and giving Rachel, who is wearing a black t-shirt and a black beanie, a high five.

MIND YOUR MINCE PIES !
Christmas food hazards include grapes and their dried fruits (sultanas, raisins and currants). These can be found in Christmas pudding, Christmas cake and mince pies. Ingestion of grapes or their dried fruits can cause kidney failure in dogs.
Although a single grape or piece of dried fruit is unlikely to be a risk, dogs eating more than this should ideally be taken to the vet to induce vomiting and potentially carry out blood tests.

Everyone is busy thinking about Christmas and lots are finding it hard due to the cost of living crisis. Please think of people during this period and beyond when you are shopping. People with animals are struggling especially and your donation to the food banks in the larger supermarkets of food for their animal and for the family would help enormously. If you have £3 to spare now and again a small bag of dog food or cat food donated will help or some rabbit or small animal foods. The rescue homes are being called daily with animals needing homes. If you can help people they may not need to call the rescue homes at all. Alpha dog training is donating each week and if any clients want to bring food into the training hall I am happy to drop it off. [email protected] is my email just contact me if you want to know when I'm there each week. Anyone who is finding life hard and thinking of homing their animals go to the food banks they do have supplies for you and your pets.

So pleased I rescheduled the improvers and advancing group tonight the dogs would be so hot. I hope everyone is staying safe and keeping your animals cool. Torvi stood right in front of the fan letting it cool her down sensible girl. I've had to keep Maat and Ghost in as they just keep going out to lie outside in the shade buts its still so hot. Hoping for cooler weather tomorrow for us all.

15/07/2022

Having been off for a couple of weeks with covid I'm now sorting out puppy groups. The next group starts Wednesday July 20th in Plymouth 6 pm and there is a little space at this time. If you want more information email me [email protected]

Watch out for the hot weather over the next few days, dogs are getting burnt pads from walking on pavements in the hot weather. Early morning or late evening walks are best. Watch your old dogs particularly as I've seen a few old dogs walking in the heat who probably could do with lying somewhere cool rather than going for a walk.
