Dog Allergies – The Hypoallergenic Myth

Would you be surprised to know that a study carried out in 1988 concluded there were no differences in allergens found on different breeds of dogs? In short, if you’re allergic to dogs, you’re allergic to all dogs?

Have we moved on significantly from 1988 and produced dogs that we’re no longer allergic to? We have artificial intelligence which can remind us of our daily schedule, but surely, a new type of dog, that’s pushing it?

You’re correct. We’ve not produced a new type of dog (in that sense), if you’re allergic to dogs. You’re allergic to dogs.

So, where does this notion of a hypoallergenic dog come from?

This is why I help people with separation anxiety. They do shift work and their commitment to the training has been amazing around very busy lives. Very happy people who have gone from zero time being able to leave to nearly 25 mins in 10 weeks and who can now look forward to relaxing when they go out instead of panicking that their dog is stressed and unhappy.

"Hi Lara, wanted to share a massive win for (dog name) today SA related! Before training if I ever had to sleep during the day whilst (client name) was out, (dog name) would start barking almost as soon as I fell asleep. I think it was because I was there but not there if that makes sense! Well I had to sleep after my night shift tonight whilst (client name) was at work and (dog name) snoozed next to me for 5 hours no issues… Even heard him get up and go downstairs at one point… Beyond happy!!!! 🎉 I’ve now got up and he’s snoozing again on the sofa, alright for some! 😂. Was so shocked when my alarm woke me up!! Thanks for all your help 😊
