Meet the newest member of our Farm family:
Thea 🩷

Thea has come to live with us here on the farm as her previous owner sadly passed away. Thea’s family reached out to us asking if we could take her on and we agreed!

She’s settling in really well and loves greeting our farmers in the morning for a few strokes.

Thea is currently being housed in the pig/goat pen until she gets her bearings and becomes familiar with her new home, if you visit the farm we’re sure she’ll appreciate a stroke or two.

Sasha beans 💜

Sasha is our longest serving cat here on the farm. She’s been with us since day one.
She’s sassy, feisty, friendly and an absolute character all in one ! She loves a stroke but isn’t scared to tell you when she’s had enough 🙊 she loves to sit with customers in the sun along side the picnic benches (we wonder why) she helps protect the petting barn and gets rewarded in dreamies and Lick-e-licks…. The kittens also know who’s boss round these ends 🤣

We truly believe that if you’re kind to animals you’ll have them eating out of your hand. Elsie (black and white) and Betsy (all black) were kittens that we rescued when they were just 7 months old and was found on a construction site. They were trapped and got neutered,microchipped and vaccinated before they came to us here at the farm. When they first came they were FERAL! You couldn’t even go near them as they’d lash out due to being scared and having no human interaction. Our farm team had patience as it took them nearly a year to even come and have a stroke BUT THEY DID IT and now look at the kittens (they’re nearly 3 but we still call them the kittens) patience, love and kind hearts will win always ! We’re glad our farm team carry all 3 and showed these kittens a new means of life here on the farm 💚

We realise that sometimes your a little people can find our horses a bit overwhelming so we’ve created this horse free area where you can feed our sheep separate from our horses. The visitor side is also slightly elevated to the animal side so it’s just the right height for little farmers to get up close! Give it a try, it’s on the nature walk just after the river.

Our guinea pigs are handled from a very young age to ensure they’re used to human interaction.
Our farmers work closely with their needs to ensure a happy and healthy life for these little guys !!💜 🐹

As it comes towards the end of our kidding season we’re always happy to watch these little guys grow into such amazing characters !
Their temperament is like no other, they’d do anything for a snack or two !🤣

Let’s talk rats 🐀
Customers have a very divided opinion when it comes to rats … some love them….. some won’t even come into the petting barn !🤣 we LOVE them !!!
For many years our farmers have had exceptional knowledge when it comes to the care of our rats.

Our farmers love having them out in the petting barn to allow customers to to safely hold them and gain confidence and experience !!

You can find our long tailed furrys in the petting barn where you’re able to handle them 😯

We all have that one strange friend what we wouldn’t change for the world……
Ours is the donkeys ! They’re a farm favourite (you’d never guess why) 🤣

Did you know:
Ben Lancaster (who opened up the farm.. you can find the story on our website) rescued some of our donkeys from Blackpool beach so they could live out their days on the farm and no longer having to work 💚

🐱HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY!🐱

We love our hardworking farm cats Sacha, Elsie and Betsy but do you know how they came to live on the farm. It’s always a funny story with our cats but here it is in brief…

Sacha, she’s our oldest, sometime a long while back (probably around 10 years ago) someone threw her over the front gate because they didn’t want her anymore. We took her in, we loved her and still do, she’s a wonderful cat. (We don’t know what they were thinking really, they missed out on a great cat)

Elsie and Betsy, we call them our kittens but they’re around 2 years old now. About a year ago Farmer Olivia (who is also a vet nurse) asked if we could rescue 2 feral kittens that had been caught and taken in to the vet. And they really were feral, our first encounter was like the scene in the film Elf where he gets attached by a skunk, anyway, our farmers worked their magic and now they’re as cuddly as The rest is history.

And finally, he’s no longer with us, but still in our hearts, a cat who turned up at the farm one day, we took him in and called him Jess, only later to find out he was assumed dead 11 years earlier by his owners who lived in Leeds and his real name was Leo. When we found the owners they came down from Leeds to visit him but had since got 2 dogs so decided to allow him continue living happily on the farm. (We still called him Jess though).

So there you have it, our farm cats!

Between our farmers we’d have to say that our donkeys are probably the favourite of our farm animals.

They’re so sweet and gentle 🩷

We can be stood in the field leaning on a fence, and that gentle nuzzle in our side is bound to be a donkey. If we’re feeling sad, our top remedy is to head down to the donkey stable for a cuddle, and they always oblige, it’s almost as if they take the sadness out of you.

WE HAVE 1 SPACE AVAILABLE FOR RABBITS IN NEED OF REHOMING

We often recieve messages asking if we can rehome pets that can no longer be looked after for one reason or another, but often have to decline due to lack of space. With the recent passing of our 9yo Lion Head Misty we are now able to offer a home for 1, 2 or 3 rabbits.

If you need to rehome your rabbit/s please inbox us with some photos and a bit of information about them.

- ❗️NO BREEDERS ❗️- we are offering a space for rabbits in need of a home.
- The available enclosure is only suitable for rabbits, who will live adjacent to our own rabbits.

MR NIBBLES🧡🤍🧡

Here at Lancaster park and animal farm we’re a small family run business ran by friends and family.
We have a really close work ethic where our team ensure animal welfare is always being met.
Our team are fantastic when it comes to team work and problem solving and all really bring something to the team.
The past week we’ve had a cat turning up to the farm behind our aviary (this isn’t uncommon for cats to come and go)
Our farmers looked after the cat providing shelter and food (we know you shouldn’t feed cats in case they have homes but we couldn’t see him with no food when feeding our own cats)
When bringing the signs in at the end of the day our farmers noticed a photo of a missing cat that looked like the one that had been on the farm. Even though the farmers couldn’t get near enough to trap him they didn’t hesitate to call the owner to let them know he was safe and alive. The owner arrived immediately helping our farmers try catch him, she provided a blanket for him to recognise a smell, a carrier, food and treats
the farmers worked closely with the owner for 3 days to trap him as he’s a very timid boy.
On day 3 the owner managed to trap him and he was safely returned home.

This is just one example how hard our farmers work behind the scenes for animals, including ones we don’t own. All our farmers really do have the animals best interest at heart and never hesitate to come up with a solution and plan to ensure animal welfare comes first.
We are very proud of our farmers as a team/ family that we’ve managed to help return this boy home safely ! (He obviously wanted to experience the farm life 🤣

Sadly our Misty has passed away this week at the ripe old age of 9 (that’s 69 in rabbit years!) She really was an old lady who has been with us from the early days of the farm. Misty was always gentle and patient and she enjoyed being petted by kind hands.

More recently we noticed Misty had been losing weight and at her age we suspected that the end was nearing, so these last few weeks she hasn’t been out for petting. Instead we have allowed her to rest from the comfort of her own space and given her extra treats in the form of her favourite muesli (even though we don’t use muesli anymore) Misty really enjoyed it and would often select the pieces that she enjoyed and shunned the rest 😁) at the end of her time it was a nice little treat for her. ❤️

You were a wonderful rabbit who brought joy to us and so many of our visitors

Well it’s the end of the Summer Half Term Break for us and with that the end of another year of lamb feeding! We’ve absolutely enjoyed every minute of it (even the late night feeds!) and even more we’ve loved being able to share this experience with so many of you! It really is such a wonderful and fulfilling experience to be able to provide care for these orphaned lambs each year. This week is all about weening off the milk and an introduction to grass, then in 7 days they’ll be turned out into the field for the summer. Thank you to everyone who came to join in! Our Story

Lancaster Park & Animal Farm is a childrens’ petting farm based in Chadderton, near Oldham (North Manchester). Spread over 25 acres in the beautiful scenic valley of the River Irk, it is surrounded on 3 sides by the Rochdale Canal.

Visitors are able to hold our small animals, feed our animals, bath our tortoise, ride on our fantastic Caterpillar ride, drive our mini quads and mini diggers, enjoy our play areas with swings, slides and ziplines and much more!

WE ARE OPEN: Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays during TERM TIME and EVERYDAY during SCHOOL HOLIDAY as well as ALL Bank Holidays.
