Today is World Spay Day.
Neutering, sometimes called spaying for female cats or castration for males, involves an operation to prevent female cats getting pregnant and male cats from getting females pregnant. Did you know that neutering has many health benefits?
For female cats 🚺🐈, it reduces the risk of tumours and certain cancers, for example mammary cancer (which is over 90% less likely if cats are spayed before six months old).
For male cats 🚹🐈, it reduces the risk of them fighting with other males, which in turn can help to prevent them contracting and spreading infectious disease such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).

Today is the start of Allergy Awareness week. Did you know that the main thing that causes cat allergies is called Fel d 1? Even hairless cats have Fel d 1. The allergen that is produced in the cat’s saliva is spread onto skin and hair during grooming, and even hairless cats will shed dander (dead skin cells) with allergen on it.
