Do you recall we told you about 3 amazing young men who are taking on a challenge to raise money for the animals at the sanctuary?
They are playing 150 hours of tennis over the summer holidays with the intention of raising £1,000 for the ABC.
Here is an update on how they are doing. We hope that you can support them by clicking on the link below

HELP PLEASE! To get as much publicity for our upcoming open weekend we need to put signs up to advertise this. The open weekend is our main fundraiser for the year to help look after the animals at the sanctuary.
The wonderful Henry Adams Sales & Lettings have kindly offered to create some signs and put them up for us. These need to be put up outside homes on through roads (or on the fence line of gardens that back onto through roads) situated in the West Chiltington, Storrington or Pulborough areas.
The board company would put them up and take them down and know not to block visibility from driveways, or block paths etc. The board would go up throughout August and then come down on the 2nd or 3rd of September.
Would anyone be willing to help us with this? If you can, please email us at [email protected]
Thank you!

It is with a heavy heart that we must tell you that we had to say goodbye to our beloved sanctuary cat Felix. 💔
Felix was one of the longest living residents at the sanctuary and was welcomed in by our founder Alexandra Bastedo, along with his sister Katie 14 years ago. Unfortunately, they were not able to be rehomed due to a disease they had so, like any other animal who needs it, they found their forever home at the ABC.
Felix was a real character, loved by all who met him and a firm favourite of the volunteers. He thought he was the manager of the sanctuary and liked to greet everyone, check them out and show them around. On open days he could be found welcoming visitors as they arrived and he would sit with the volunteers during their tea breaks checking to see if a treat might come his way – it often did!
Unfortunately, Felix became unwell a little while ago and was undergoing treatment from our wonderful vets Crossways Veterinary Group. We knew his condition was life limiting and on Saturday his condition deteriorated so it was time to let him go. He will be missed by everyone at the sanctuary.
We want to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to everyone that has purchased from our Amazon wish list. With the cost of animal care rising all the time we really do appreciate your help. We understand things are difficult for everyone which is why we are so grateful for your support. THANK YOU from everyone here at the ABC, especially the animals. 🥰
Gemma and Beanie would like to tell you that it is the ABC Animal Sanctuary Open Weekend on the 31st August/1st September. More info soon!
They wanted to ask if there is anyone who would like a stand at the Open Weekend.
They also wanted to know if there are any vegan food stalls that would like to attend.
If so please contact via email: [email protected]
Love
Gemma and Beanie xx
"Project Visitor Center" is moving forward at a pace now thanks to the fabulous sanctuary maintenance team. You only need to look at the before and after photos below to see all the hard work that has gone into clearing the area for it. Thank you team.
We are making good use of our founder, Alexandra Bastedo’s summer house (again photo below) and moving it down from her garden to position it within the sanctuary. It will become a place for information and to meet and greet our visitors. We feel that she would have thought that a fitting use.
We would like to thank all our volunteers without whose help we could not run the ABC Animal Sanctuary. THANK YOU ALL.
We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to Crossways Veterinary Group Storrington for raising £129.29 for the ABC animals by having their plant sale recently.
To keep the sanctuary running, we rely solely on fundraiser events such as this, donations from the public and volunteers.

HUTCH: We thought you might like an update on Hutch as many of you have been asking how he is coping since the sad passing of his brother Starsky. Of course, this has been a very difficult time for Hutch. He had to stay in the equine hospital for a couple of days after his brother had passed away. This is standard practice to make sure that he wasn’t too distressed as this can cause digestive system problems in donkeys. The hospital also made sure he was eating and drinking properly before he could come back to the sanctuary. As you can see from the video, on his return Hutch was immediately paired up with his other donkey field companion Chocolate. They were very pleased to see each other again. Hutch is also now back out in his field with his Shetland pony pals Eddie, Raffles, Jack and Jill. His other donkey friend Louise is in the next field, and he had a “chat” over the fence with her immediately. Whilst he is a little quieter than normal, he is eating normally and getting lots of fuss from the volunteers. He is settling back into life at the sanctuary, and we are keeping a close eye on him. It will take a little while for him to adjust to his new life without his brother but with the love of all the volunteers and his equine friends we are sure he will be OK. Unfortunately, this is the very sad side to looking after animals, especially the older ones or those with medical issues. However, we will continue to provide them with all the care and protection they need at the ABC Animal Sanctuary. We've launched a Just Giving campaign to help with costs of Starsky’s vet bill which totals appx £5,500 and if you can help us in any way, however small we would be extremely grateful. Simply click on the link below. If you have already donated, we cannot thank you enough – it is really appreciated by us all. https://checkout.justgiving.com/dli79bjgxr
On the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, we at the ABC animal sanctuary, remembered them
