We often like to share with you Sealyham rescue and rehoming stories. Some of these will be anonymous. Some involve our official Sealyham Terrier Rescue and some, like this one, are done through friends or acquaintances in our special Sealyham community. ALL are heartwarming stories of Sealyhams being given a second chance in new homes. ❤️

With today’s young chap, his previous owners had already met his new owner at a ‘Meet Up’. She came with their own dogs as she loves the breed and was hoping one day to rescue to Sealyham. When Mac became available, she was just the person.

Mac is a lovely boy but unfortunately needed to be rehomed. Fortunately his new ‘mum’ lived nearby….

‘Mac is my third Sealy and my youngest. He lives with Katie, a 10 year old King Charles Spaniel and Norman, a 2 year old English Toy Terrier. His favourite things to do are play with Norman, go for walks in order to look for cats, bark at animals of any description on the television and get cuddles from me. He can be a bit grumpy sometimes and doesn’t particularly like it when Katie snores (which is 75% of the time 🙄)

Mac’s only been with me since January but it feels like he’s been here forever and I can’t imagine being without him 💕💕💕💕’

Today, we meet a beautiful girl called Sadie in the north of England.

‘After doing research into the breed we decided to complete the Sealyham Rescue Adoption Form but were aware we would likely have a long wait to welcome a Sealyham into the family.

Just nine days later Sadie arrived and it was as if she had always been with us.

She's such a happy girl who loves being out and about, whether on the Lakeland Fells or Northumberland beaches (though I think she prefers the beach and can always find crabs).

She goes everywhere with us, most recently a hotel stay which she loved. She likes to meet and greet which gives us the chance to spread awareness of the breed and Rescue. She will even show her sealy sit if food is involved.

Sadie has brought so much happiness to our lives and we love her dearly.’

Today, we meet a lovely lad called Jeff in the south of England.

‘I heard about Jeff (quite by chance) being in a local rescue in May2015. My Scottie Maisie was 8 so I enquired and they did all the checks and said I could have him. I think the fact that I always had a Sealyham in my life from the age of 6 helped.

He was in a lovely Foster home one hours drive away. He jumped straight up on my lap and slapped his lovely tongue around my face a few times. It was love at first sight and so meant to be. Took Maisie to meet him the next day and all was fine. He wanted to come home with me there and then but these rescues have rules to follow and rightly so. He apparently sat and waited behind the front door for me to come back. Which I did a few days later. He was only 10 months old and deaf.

Jeff and Maisie had so much fun in the early days. He used to pull her round my large kitchen on a doughnut bed. The noise was hilarious.

Someone else's problem is my soulmate. I love him dearly and I am in no doubt that he loves me. Always by my side, sleeps on my bed and at 9 years old he still has a mischievous streak. I have to pinch myself that he is mine. We sadly lost Maisie last May age nearly 16. I had a lovely lady Vet come to my home and Jeff was here with Maisie as she passed peacefully away. In the following days he had panic attacks. I'm sure he still misses her, I always will and I'm so thankful to have him in my life to cuddle up to and spoil.

Love Jill and Jeff 🥰’

Today, we meet a sweet boy who was struggling with his older housemate.

‘Our lovely boy entered our lives a couple of years ago much to our delight. He was rehomed because he didn’t get on with an older dog in the house, which must have been difficult for the previous owner

We had been waiting patiently for some time and got incredibly lucky. He settled in quickly, Margaret Beale, from Sealyham Rescue, was superb with her advice & support.

He really is the most sweet natured Sealy, he does proper grins that make us chuckle and he is so well behaved - unless he sees his nemesis the Lakeland Terrier from across the way - and just about every puppy that has the audacity to wag their tail at him!

Quick to learn, easy to train, brilliant off the lead, loves his ball, eats anything and everything and loving. A special little dog and we love him dearly!’

Today, we meet Bertie, who was rescued through being spotted on social media…

‘This is our rescued Sealyham Terrier (formerly known as Sherbert) We adopted him last August from a Charity based in Wales. When we saw him our hearts melted so we applied to rehome him and after the relevant checks we were on our way to Cardiff from Kent.

We had learned that he had been used as a stud dog on a traveller community site and kept in appalling conditions. He was very dirty and needed to be shaved on returning home as his fur had been bleached yellow (urine) and being enclosed for long periods he does have joint issues. As soon as we met him that was it and we weren't coming home without him.

10 months on and he is very much part (if not the head ) of the family now. He was under weight, had some anxiety issues and had never been walked on a lead but all these issues have been addressed and he is now a very much loved member of the family.’

Another great story of a successful rehoming. He is such a smashing Sealyham and it’s great to see him thriving in a loving home. I happen to know, they were looking for a companion for Bertie and have also successfully rescued another lovely dog, not a Sealyham, but still a little sweet girl.

Today, we meet Lando, who was rehomed through friends when his folks found it a struggle to manage 4 dogs through illness…

‘Lando (named after the hubby's favourite F1 driver ) is 3 years old but we have only had the pleasure of 2 of those years. We are from Blackwood S. Wales, his second Gotcha anniversary was 5th May!

Lando was rehomed by us through slightly unconventional means. He came from friends who were struggling to manage their 4 dogs after suffering from Long Covid and they felt Lando’s needs might be better met with us. It was love at first sight and we researched a lot the weeks before we had him as we had never encountered a Sealy before….

Nothing could have prepared us for him, he is an absolute joy to have with his quirky personality and boundless energy, he fitted in like he had always been here and we love him more than words can say. Lando loves the beach and also like to show his filthing skills on a regular basis. He also quite likes to bark at the adverts on T.V 😂.

We wouldn't change him though and we hope we can spread a bit of awareness about this wonderful breed. They are definitely one of a kind 🐾’

What a lovely story of a successful rehoming and he is such a super Sealyham.

Today is National Rescue Day!

Rescue comes in many forms - it could be abandoned dogs, rehoming due to a change in circumstances or character conflicts. Sealyham Terrier Rescue is here to help.

People often think Sealyhams never need to be rescued/rehomed as they’re a purebred dog and there’s often waiting lists for puppies. Sadly, this isn’t true and we always need people on our waiting list who are ready to invite a Sealyham into their lives.

If you are interested in adopting a Sealyham in the future, please contact Margaret at Sealyham Rescue.

🎉We have great news! Today is Katie’s Gotcha Day! 🎉

She’s being collected and going to live with her new family today!

As our rehoming information is strictly confidential, we can’t tell you any more details but we’re hoping for an update once she has settled in.

We would like to thank everybody for their interest and concern for Katie, especially if you applied to adopt her. We sincerely hope you will stay on the Sealyham Rescue waiting list. This year, there are more Sealyhams than ever needing to be rescued or rehomed.

A special huge thankyou to her amazing foster carer. Due to the circumstances of Katie’s rescue, she needed a place to stay for a few weeks and a very special person helped by collecting her and caring for her all this time. Our sincere thanks go to you. ❤️👏🏻

💖 Good luck in your new home Katie and let us know how you get on there. We’d love to see some photos of you once you are settled in. 💖

Meet Fig!

‘A year ago, I decided to bring Fig, a 6 month old deaf puppy, home from your rescue. It wasn't all smooth sailing at first, but with some serious dedication on my part and your awesome support, Fig has become the coolest dog ever.

Your guidance and advice really made a difference, and now Fig's the happiest pup around. She's brought so much joy into my life, and I can't thank you enough for helping us make it happen.

Fig's doing great, and I couldn't be happier to have her as part of my family. Thanks again for all you do!’

We have an update for you about the Sealyham found in Stoke, U.K….

She was collected from the dog pound at the weekend and is now being looked after by an experienced foster carer!

Although in good health, she’s still a little nervous, especially around people and other dogs at the moment, which is to be expected given her circumstances. We believe she has been abandoned. She’s been bathed and defleaed and has enjoyed going on walks with her carer. She will remain with them until she’s ready to be rehomed and until the right home is found for her.

She is definitely a Sealyham Terrier and is now under the care of Sealyham Rescue. She will be looking for a forever home soon and I’m hoping we can find that for her. She deserves to be with people who will love her and make her feel safe and secure.

If you feel you could offer this lovely girl a home, please do contact Margaret at Sealyham Rescue. There’s a form to fill out just to make sure it’s a good fit. It’s important to get the placements right which I’m sure you understand.

She hasn’t got an official name yet, so I thought we could call her Katie for now, after Kate the Princess of Wales who has recently had her own struggles.

Margaret’s email is [email protected] 😘🐾❤️
