This beautiful girl, the horse, not Sam, who is of course also beautiful. 💖 Well, her name is Briony. She came to us after being abandoned and unclaimed on the road. She is two and a half years old and had shoes on her poor little feet. She was malnourished with a worm burden and very weak behind.
She had a inconclusive Strangles test so had to spend extra time in quarantine, but now she is Strangles negative and certainly fitter than when she first came in, so she has joined our field herd.
We chose Grillo for introductions and he was a superstar with her. She’s now in with the whole herd and enjoying just being a horse with friends, forage and freedom.
She is standing around 14.2hh and we believe she has plenty of growing still to do, so should make around 15hh. She has such a lovely and gentle nature and someone is going to be very lucky to have her in their life. If you think this could be you, please drop us a message.
This is what healthy, happy horses do on a cold and rainy winter’s morning.
Very different to when they were rescued.
FREEDOM, FORAGE AND FRIENDS. 💖
Just a Shetland pony named Monty, enjoying a roll in the sand paddock. 🥰
It was a dark 6am start at our yard this morning, instead of the usual 9am start. Kleio slept though the mucking out around her!!! Look at those teefs 💖
This well covered lawnmower in the pink head collar is Philo. He came to us last March, so weak he could hardly get on the horse box, when we rescued him from a flooded field. Suffering from severe neglect and such a high parasite burden, his liver and gut were critically damaged.
Fast forward to today and he’s fit and healthy and ready to find his special home.
We believe Philo is part Trotter and part Cob. He is a yearling so still plenty of time to grow and we anticipate him making 14hh, maybe just a little more!
He is a stunning boy and another SAFE walking miracle. 💖😄
He is with his bestie Grillo. He is 22 years young and he would love to stay with Philo as a companion horse. There’s a small hope he may get lucky, but he’s also looking for a loving home. Such a lovable, special and gentle horse.
Please message us if you think you could offer one or both of these boys the home they deserve. We home under contract, so our horses cannot be sold on. This secures their future. 😊
Our Chief Equine Officer Tonka, was away from the herd for three weeks after suffering a bout of colic on Christmas Eve.
He went to stay with our Sam who has the best rehab livery in the world! 💖 Sam takes care of all our sick horses and really does work some miracles on very poorly horses we rescue.
Blood results and a thorough veterinary examination showed that Tonka was suffering from an underlying infection and had most probably been out of sorts for some time. His gums were ulcerated, but it was not due to a teeth issue. He had a course of antibiotics and the highlight of his stay with Sam was warm herbal teas which he loved.
Back to our muddy field with the herd and they were very pleased to see him, although he didn’t seem to want the attention. Since then, he’s been back to running around with the boys though and certainly Zucca was very happy he was back.
We all like a hot cup of tea on a cold winter’s morning. It’s the same for most horses too.
Impaction colic is rife at the moment and our vets are so busy with call outs for this. Horses don’t particularly like cold water and our water troughs have been frozen for days now. So Amara enjoyed a nice “cup of tea” made with warm water and a handful of Agrobs Mash to ensure she was nicely hydrated for the day ahead of her. 💖
Nothing better to do than to play to keep warm on a cold and frosty morning. 🥶
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALL OF US AT SAFE! 🎉🥳
Little Gizmo is nearing the end of his quarantine period and finally able to have his long feet trimmed by our farrier, @Paul Docker.
Our volunteer Tracey has worked with Gizmo, as he was unhandled when he was rescued. Tracey has attended courses held by Kelly Marks and Intelligent Horsemanship and we have certainly benefitted from this. Gizmo was such a good boy for his first feet trim. Obviously greatly helped by Paul’s kind and calm handling too.
Once Gizmo has completed his quarantine he will join our herd at our field and learn to be a relaxed, happy pony with friends, forage and freedom. He’s too young to be castrated yet, but once that happens, he will be ready to find a responsible, loving home. He’s such a beautiful little soul. 💖
