Rocky is an energetic young spaniel cross who came to us through a vet recommendation.
Rocky will be having surgery soon (✂️🥜🤫🙈) and will need to stay calm afterwards while he recovers. His family is being very proactive and starting scentwork training with him so that he can still be enriched and stimulated even when he can’t go on walks 😄
Scentwork is a great activity for recovering dogs as it provides mental stimulation to reduce frustration, as well as very gentle exercise that is safe for healing bodies.

Last week, Sirius had his first intro to scentwork session, and he's already on his way to boosting his confidence and deepening his bond with his owner. 🐾✨ Through scentwork, we're not only enriching his life but we'll also be teaching techniques to help him stay calm and focused during walks.

Archie is a very sensitive rescue who is starting nosework as a form of enrichment and to help boost his confidence. He did so well on his first session even though he was in a new environment and the noise from the wind was a bit scary. I love seeing how beneficial nosework can be for dogs like Archie 🥰 🐾
What a lovely day! We held our first Nosework Games competition today at the EYE 2 EYE Dogs training barn with 6 dogs competing. It was extremely windy, but the dogs managed to work through the drafty areas nicely, and thankfully we had a bit of sunshine for everyone to enjoy their biscuits between their turns (although the skies did open up to torrential rain about 30min after this photo!!)

Dandelion recently lost both her eyes, but that’s not stopping her from living a full life and using her nose to explore the world. I can’t wait to see how nosework will open her world to new enrichment possibilities and boost her confidence!

Flora, Jax, and Turbo are all rescue dogs with various behavioural needs, but who get on great with each other. Since they would struggle with the setup of our regular scent club sessions, they attend private club sessions together with dates set week by week.
If this sounds like something that you and a friend or group of friends would be interested in, just get in touch! After all, scentwork is for all dogs and no dog or owner should feel left out because they have different needs 😊 🐾

I really enjoyed meeting Eddie the other day at his first 121 session. Eddie is pretty new to scentwork but his problem solving skills when sourcing odour are already a joy to watch! 😍
Beautiful Bella and Lovely Lanxing also came to play yesterday in some 121 sessions 🐾 😄
They had both done some scentwork in the past, but were new to gun oil. They were really quick to learn a new odour! 🎓🐶
Bella worked on learning how to do a passive freeze indication, while Lanxing practiced sourcing gun oil in bigger areas to start getting ready for competitions.
So lovely to see all the different breeds that are enjoying the wonderful world of scentwork ☺️

In fact, all of Oakley is amazing. He had his first 121 scentwork session yesterday and absolutely smashed it. Can’t wait to see how he progresses 😁

Zeke benefits from having focused sessions that can be tailored to his needs so he can really show off his searching skills without getting overwhelmed.

It's been a busy week with two lovely spaniels, Alfie and Sprout, completing their taster session mysteries and Turbo and Jax having lessons to start them off on gun oil! Also helped with some 121s over at Nosework Dogs and met the very flirtatious spaniel Buddy who is just starting his scentwork journey.

Our taster sessions are the perfect opportunity to discover the exciting world of scent detection. No prior experience needed! This is a themed activity where you and your dog can find clues to solve a mystery 🕵️♂️ 🐾
For our themed sessions, we have four dogs per group, but dogs are worked one at a time on rotation (your dog will need to be able to wait in the car until their turn).
For those who have dogs who struggle to be left in the car, are particularly anxious, or for those who would just prefer a one-to-one session rather than a group setting, we also offer private taster sessions. While this is not a themed mystery session like our group tasters, your dog will have just as much fun during this enriching activity! 🐶

Hello! 👋 I'm Zita, and I'm thrilled to finally launch Scent Quest - your destination for nosework coaching and themed scent detection activities in North Somerset. 🌳
Let me share a bit about myself. My journey into the world of canine behavior began as a researcher, studying dogs' search behaviors and sense of smell, even comparing them with their wild counterparts, wolves! 📚🔍 After earning my Master's degree in applied animal behavior and welfare, I dedicated nearly a decade to improving the welfare of kenneled dogs, blending research with hands-on work as a shelter behaviorist. 🏠🐾
However, it was during the pandemic that I rediscovered my passion for scentwork, thanks to my own four-legged companion, Asha. 🐕 Asha, a staffy cross rescued from a Scottish shelter, has braved her share of challenges since her days as an anxious stray puppy. Diagnosed with lumbosacral stenosis in 2020, she faced months of mobility struggles, during which nosework became her saving grace, enriching her days and easing her frustrations during her recovery. 🌟
Nosework has been truly transformative for Asha - boosting her confidence, helping her cope with chronic pain, and fostering an unbreakable bond between us. 🐶💖 Despite some major setbacks, like a fungal infection that completely destroyed Asha’s sense of smell in her right nostril, our partnership has only grown stronger, turning challenges into triumphs. 🏆
Witnessing the benefits nosework brought to Asha's life inspired me to become a scentwork instructor, eager to share that same joy with others. Fueled by my training with The College of Scent Dogs and the invaluable mentorship I receive from Marie Poole at Nosework Dogs, Scent Quest was born. 🎓🐾
My vision for Scent Quest goes beyond conventional dog training; it's about creating a fun-filled experience for both dog and owner, where you can tackle puzzles together and strengthen your bond as a team. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just dipping your toes into the world of scent detection, join us at Scent Quest for an adventure like no other. We hosted our very first Taster Session today! 🥳
The furry detectives showed incredible diligence in examining the evidence and sniffing out clues, while their owners did a great job solving the mystery 🕵️♀️ 🐕 🧀
All three dogs today were rescues with various behavioural and physical challenges, but in nosework every dog is able to shine! It was a fun morning of watching dogs tap into their superpowers 🐶

Asha’s journey through physiotherapy has been a long one. Four years ago, she faced her first major lumbosacral episode, unable to walk or stand properly. For the past three years, Chapel Farm has been our go-to for physio and hydrotherapy, guiding us through her recovery. With their expertise, we’ve seen significant improvement in her back pain and even recovery from a cruciate injury. Sadly, Chapel Farm is closing their doors for good later this week, and we’ll have our final hydrotherapy session on their last day. A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful staff who’ve cared for Asha, teaching us exercises to do at home. Their support has enabled us to continue our scentwork adventures and return to competing. Asha’s physical rehabilitation and scentwork progression have gone hand in hand over the years, and in fact has been part of the reason that I started Scent Quest - to share the power of nosework for dogs that may be struggling with physical restrictions and the frustrations that can come with them. Thank you to everyone dedicated to improving the lives of these amazing dogs. ❤️

Here’s a controversial fact for you: I don’t walk my dog every day. In fact, there’s quite a lot of days that I don’t. That doesn’t mean her life isn’t fully enriched though. Any days that we don’t walk (mostly due to her chronic pain), I make sure that we spend extra time fulfilling all her needs - physical, mental, and emotional. One way of doing that is allowing her to spend as much time as she wants sniffing new plants /areas that interest her. She’s not normally allowed in the greenhouse or vegetable patch (she’s a tomato thief!!), so when she is, she spends a long time thoroughly sniffing and examining everything. Even when she lies down to sunbathe, she is still airscenting and observing everything around her. In many ways, this level of mindfulness is more valuable than a walk (where she is wired and full of adrenaline) would be. We were meant to be competing in an NNA trial today, but the vets have put us on two weeks strict rest due to a knee injury 😪 Thankfully we’ll still be able to do training at home, otherwise not sure how many toys would survive…
