And then one day…they seem old! ❤️‍🩹

I think it’s really important to focus on quality of life with our pets, not quantity, yet I’ve noticed that a lot of humans focus on how long they can keep an animal living whilst probably unintentionally realising the animal may be suffering.

With age come other diseases, age does not cause these problems itself. The diseases that come with age usually require treatment or management to help to keep quality of life optimal! For example, you may hear somebody say “He’s old so he’s slowing down now”, age hasn’t caused that, it’s likely that another disease is causing this problem, perhaps like osteoarthritis, which can be painful and limiting and needs addressing.

So many pets have unnoticed, undiagnosed pain or discomfort and we see this a lot with cases referred to us.

We are extremely lucky in our vet world to have the option of euthanasia, which means we can prevent or end suffering before we’re really compromising the patient’s quality of life.

We offer consultations if you’d like to discuss any of these points to ensure that you’re making fully informed decisions and the best choices for your pet.

What a wonderful post, thank you Animal Behaviour and Trauma Recovery Service UK !

We all work so hard towards the main goal/aim… ultimately to improve education, which in turn, improves our animals’ lives and the human-animal bond!

Working well together and collaborating with those in our field of work is so rewarding but also helps to spread the word/education more effectively!

Let’s do this 💪🏼💪🏼

NB OFFER ENDED 4TH MAY

Five years ago today I launched my first ever online courses, Getting Started with the Clicker and How Horses Learn Best: Learning Theory in Context.

The clicker course focuses on the importance of laying a good foundation if you want to train with food: it's not so much about how to clicker train, but now about how up introduce the voucher to your horse in a safe and effective way.

The how Horses Learn Best course is video footage of a CPD day that I ran for the BHS based on the chapter on Learning Theory that I wrote for 'Complete Horsemanship Volume Four'.

To celebrate the fact that I've been delivering online courses for five years now and am looking forward to launching some exciting new courses this year, I'm offering FREE access to both these courses for a limited time period. Just follow the link in the comments and input the coupon code 4MAY25 before 11.30pm BST tonight 4th May 2025. Enjoy!!!
