We have recently expanded and provide a comprehensive fully ambulatory veterinary service for all horses, ponies and donkeys - 24/7 365 days a year - covering Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. We pride ourselves on case continuity, approachability and direct contact with your vet. We aim to get to know your horse and base our diagnostic and treatment plan on what is best suited to

your individual animal and you. Both our vets have owned, managed and ridden horses throughout their life. We are happy to provide advice over the phone and discuss cases and routine management for the one horse owner and large yards. We offer flexible appointment times at your convenience, group discounts and a very reduced vaccination visit fee, no matter how many horses need one. Our vehicles are fully stocked and very well equipped, carrying the latest motorised battery powered dental tools, digital x-ray machine and a high quality ultrasound scanner. Gastroscopes and upper respiratory tract scopes can be done with advance notice. All routine and emergency work is covered including pre-purchase exams and export paperwork. Our vets have good working relationships with internal medicine specialists and surgeons at several hospitals. If your horse needs referring, they can go to the best in the business!

Good Mornning

Unfortunately Simon has been poorly the past week and was rushed into hospital yesterday morning possibly awaiting surgery.

I know you want to all wish him well but if you could send a message on here rather than what’s app or private message just so he can get better and the team can get working on sorting any visits that are booked .

I will keep posting messages out , any appointments for Aug like vaccines teeth sedations etc if you could just hold on until the end of the month contacting us so we can get everything in the next couple weeks booked in first .

Emergencies will be dealt with via the office or Ferran .

We have cover so please don’t panic

Thank you again for your understanding

Jane and the team x

EQUINE OUT-OF-HOURS 🐴

Following our previous post regarding the changes to our equine out-of-hours service, we wanted to answer some of your questions and concerns..

Why are we changing our on call arrangements? 📞

Unfortunately there is a recruitment and retention crisis across the veterinary profession and this is particularly severe in the equine veterinary field. Despite extensive efforts we have been unable to recruit new vets and as such are currently now left with two equine vets doing the work of four. Clearly it is not acceptable to expect each vet to work every second night and weekend in addition to continuous work whilst the other vet is off sick, on a course or on holiday. In addition the prospects of recruitment are hampered by the offer of such working conditions. We therefore need to change our on call provision for the welfare and retention of our current vets and to facilitate recruitment of future vets. We feel we have taken the responsible option and also followed RCVS guidelines in sourcing and formally arranging a system with other experienced and professional local vets.

Why are we asking for a deposit? 💰

The reason is that unfortunately there are a significant minority of horse owners who have no intention or an inability for payment for services. These people are difficult to identify out of hours and frequently move from practice to practice leaving their debts behind them. We cannot afford and should not have to withstand their costs. We regret that it is those people that necessitate the need for a deposit and spoil things for everyone.

What is the price of the deposit based on? 🐴

The deposit is based on the expected total of an emergency call out. We realise that this is a big method change for people but the practice charges remain unchanged. We do not feel the charges are unreasonable especially when compared to emergencies in other sectors e.g electricians, plumbers, GP home visits).

If a horse requires multiple visits over an OOH period, will we be charging £300 deposit per visit? 🏇🏻

No, there will be a single deposit. Ongoing treatment and the treatment options and accumulation of costs will be discussed as the case progresses.

What happens if we do not have a method of payment, or if my horse is on livery services and my yard owner calls up? 🩺

If the horse is in full livery and the owner cannot be contacted we will not take a deposit from a groom or livery yard manager. Vets involved in the on call provision will be able to cross reference with a list of such yards. It would still be prudent for the groom or yard owner to inform the owner of the horse as soon as there is an emergency in case any major treatment decisions are required eg if referral for colic surgery etc is required or a decision for euthanasia.

We will continue to use common sense and provide first aid emergency care as soon as possible to those animals that are in desperate need or dangerous situations. Treatment will be limited to that that is absolutely necessary for the immediate welfare of the animal and safety of those concerned. We will not delay where there is an immediate threat to life or immediate danger to people, but will expect payment before attending the majority of non life threatening emergencies.

How does the billing system work? 🦄

We will all be charging our usual fees with no changes. Your own usual vet will send an invoice and request payment as usual with the deposit having been deducted from the bill. The attending vet will, in effect, have performed the work for the usual vet and billed them.

What distance / area will the vets cover? 📍

All three practices involved are small and therefore cover a relatively small geographical area and they overlap significantly. Although the area covered has increased in size, this remains relatively small in comparison to most other equine practices. We would not be doing this if we felt we could not cover the area appropriately.

We understand your concerns and will continue to work hard to provide an excellent service to your animals. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support. 😊

24/01/2023

Good morning as from the 6 February we are sharing out of hours duties with Mel Packer Equine and Town and Country this will be for emergencies , out of hours evening visits and weekends only as the vets are becoming increasingly busy and need to rest between duties properly and have time off .
You will receive the best care from an experienced team of vets .
Unfortunately with this we are going to have to make another change which means a deposit will be taken by all practices previous to the visit by card from 6 February to also stop non payment of invoices especially with the out of hours service .
We hope that you all understand why Simon has made this decision .

Many thanks
