We have 3 courses coming up which is great for horse owners, and for BHS Coaches needing CPD.

BONES /MUSCLES/JUMP COACHING

6th April 2-5pm £40pp "Brilliant Bones". (4 CPD points).
Refresh knowledge of the equine skeleton, learn about bone form and function. Watch the skeleton in motion with a rider, and how each bone is perfectly designed its job. With equine Massage Therapist Jenna Martyn, and Senior Eventing Coach Johanna McDonald.

13th April 9am to 4pm. "A Safer Approach to Jump Coaching" (6 CPD points)
Good for those who want to learn how to teach jumping from a solid, safer and detailed approach (great for those with upcoming assessments- also great for those wo need to refresh their knowledge and gain more confidence in their jump coaching). With Senior Eventing Coach Johanna McDonald.

We will use our Racewood Eventing Simulator to take advantage of great technology in the use of diagnosing the causes of rider error over fences- instead of symptoms. Refresh spacing of fences and poles, as well as understanding the jump trajectory. We will look at the theory behind building rider confidence, teaching jumping to a rider for the first time, jumping for your body type - as well as coaching jumping for horses with conformational challenge.
£165pp.

20th April 2-5pm £40pp "Magical Muscles" (3 CPD points).
Detailed look at the superficial muscles of horses. The job of each muscle, and it's role within the flexor or extensor chain. Learn about damaged muscles and muscle recovery. With Equine Massage Therapist Jenna Martyn and Senior Eventing Coach Johanna McDonald.

We are looking for 2 horses to join us for long-term loan. Between 14h and 17h (experienced horses)

What is loaning to us like?

We are a British Horse Society highly Commended Centre with a 5 star Animal Welfare Licence.
We have excellent facilities: indoor/outdoor surfaces, SJ paddock, on site hacking, cross country schooling course, 92 acres, Racewood Eventing Simulator, classrooms and much more. We offer livery too, and cater for a variety of horse types.
Horses dictate their own riding journeys, and it is our job to listen; Some of our ponies lend themselves to new riders, whilst others need riders of experience, confidence, and balance. Each horse finds their pathway and works within the comfort zone.

Horses take part in school work, riding club sessions, internal events, cross county and jump work (if they lend them selves to this), hacking in pairs or small groups – not alone, long line work, lunging, and many other non ridden modules which support our riding club and Wiltshire College students.

Horses have Individual diets, many with very different turnout needs, care plans and fitness schedules, as well as regular access to our Equissage therapy pad, solarium, hot shower, regular physio visits, and excellent veterinary support. Horses also have turnout all year.

To know the standard of care, where your horse is, to know that horses are not forgotten, to know every year they are vetted, schooled, cared for, and in many cases developed further. The burden of the unknown is removed a little, providing a greater level of comfort to owners knowing their horses needs are being met during the break they need to have.
Loans start at 2 years in duration, owners need to keep their horse insured for the duration of the loan.
I hope this post gives you a good idea of what we are about, and that horses come first.

Do get in touch if our very special home might suit the needs of your horse. We do not take projects, or babies - we can only use sensible horses of experience who would enjoy an all round life, high standard of care, and are safe in and out of the arena.

We are at a point in the year when we are looking to recruit young workers from within our Hoof Club Seniors who can commit to Sunday working and some holiday work with the horses.

What does work involve? horse care, mucking out, leading riders, cleaning the yard - in all weathers. We give full training and induction and support the growth of each young worker.

What is the process for applying?
The young person must be 13 years old - it is illegal to work or volunteer anywhere below this age. The young person (not parent) needs to email me [email protected] and express their interest in working with horses at the yard. I will respond and ask the young person to attend an interview (which can usually be carried out before or after their next Hoof Club Seniors session to save you an additional trip).

All being well (and with parental agreement) we will arrange a Health & Safety assessment and fill out necessary H&S paperwork (detailing where further training needs to be focussed based on the assessment once the young person starts their role)
We will give you the work permit application paperwork to take to the young person's school - where the head of year needs to agree to the permit and sign. The paperwork needs to be returned to us where we will then send it to the Local Authority - once approved by them, we can issue a start date to our new young worker!

Nominate now... why?

We have brilliant coaches who deserve recognition for their life altering coaching - unlocking the door to your advancement, self esteem, confidence, and resilience....

We have horses who try hard for you, regardless of imbalance, rider fear, or level of ability.... always giving more to you as you progress....... ...we have a yard where the welfare of horses comes first - both ridden welfare, as well as physical and emotional welfare of all horses.

We educate students, offer Alternative Provision for young people with additional educational needs. We train coaches, we develop our own staff, support apprentices, and over 30 young work-permit workers (learning the industry and offering qualifation opportunities to them).
We try very hard to support livery clients in their own journeys, and the changing needs of their horses. We loan horses, developing their education and musculature, taking the very best care of them.
Our riding club offers recreational awards, and opens the door to horses for young people.......
Our 5 star Animal Welfare Licence shines at the centre of all we do.
If you can nominate the centre you are helping our business in the shrinking equine industry to stand tall. X###xx

Nominate your chosen equestrian professional, business or charity who has gone above and beyond. Self-nominations are also accepted.

We were delighted to introduce King Arthur (our 19h2 Shire horse) to James Hick (CEO), and Tracy Castles (Head of Fundraising) from the British Horse Society, and their guest - Charlotte Heber Percy today.

The centres' work with high and complex need individuals was the focus of the visit - our Changing Lives through Horses programme supports many young people, so this was a great opportunity for our guests to observe the power of horses as an intervention. Changing Lives through Horses is a British Horse Society initiative, now supporting a thousand young people across the UK at British Horse Society centres. As always....King Arthur adored the attention from us little people!.

10th & 11th of Feb we are holding Open Days for those who home educate their children - interested in our outdoor, animal focused, alternative provision.
You can book a slot to look at the yard and discuss how the provision can be tailored to the individual needs of each young person. Do share this post with anyone who would benefit from the power of learning in an outdoor setting with horses.

Thank you to all of the coaches who attended a 3 part CPD course (continuous professional development) on Developing Jump Coaching Skills. This was a British Horse Society approved course written and delivered by Senior Eventing Coach Johanna McDonald.

We covered:
Pole and fence spacing, and the jumping trajectory.
Exercises to develop young horses, green horses, less confident horses, and those lacking impulsion.
Spotting rider error (using our Racewood Limited Eventing Simulator).
Rider confidence levels, riders returning to jumping, and rider's jumping for the first time.
Moving established riders on, development of a pathway forward.
All of the above centred around horse welfare centred coaching, and rider safety.

Thank you to the many riders and horses who took part, with use of fantastic facilities, aided and oiled along by the coffee machine!
