⚠️ WARNING for dog owners ⚠️

As you may have heard, we are seeing more cases of vomiting & diarrhoea at the moment, this isn’t just a Wandsworth problem, rather an issue sweeping through our canine friends nationwide. The exact cause is not yet clear, but early reports have indicated viral is likely. 🦠 Given the prevalence, a nationwide investigation is occurring and we, like all vets & owners, are waiting for the results. ✅ To provide reassurance, most dogs appear to be recovering well with symptomatic, supportive treatments from their vets, including anti-nausea injection & medication for recovery at home. 😊

A few patients with persistence or particular aggressive forms have had to be admitted for hospital treatment including a drip and more aggressive intravenous support, along with additional investigations to rule out other differentials. ☹️

If your dog appears unwell, it is sensible to limit contact with any other dogs to prevent spread. Try to encourage them to keep eating and drinking - moist, bland foods, such a specialist gastrointestinal formulated foods or portions of chicken & rice, are often better tolerated by vomiting animals as they require less time & digestion in the stomach. 💦 Feed & offer water little & often, ensure plenty of rest & TLC. Please call your vet if worried… especially vital if your dog appears lethargic, can’t keep fluids down, symptoms are progressing, has been suffering for longer than 24-48hrs, is very young/old/otherwise immuno compromised, etc. ⏰

On average, most cases we've seen are back to their normal happy selves in about 3-5 days, but every dog is different, some are more vulnerable than others, so please if in doubt, call your vet! ☎️ And of course, there are all too many other differential diagnosis reasons for these symptoms, so assuming all will pass & be fine without a vet assessment can be risky. 😬 Stay well doggos, love 😘
