How can you do what you do? I am asked that often. I will answer that, I don't want myself or any other Commoner getting that phone call from an Agister. My work is endless, and will not stop.
I have worked out some stats from the end of September to now.
Ponies: Killed: 6 2023: 4
Injured and Destroyed: 3 2023: 7
Injured: 1 2023: 8
Uninjured: 2 2023 2
Nothing Found: 11 2023: 7
I will explain that Nothing Found means that at the time of the incident there is nothing in the area that the Agister can find. They obviously go out after the event to find an animal, this number is recorded so not an exact figure on the fatal or injured numbers.
Cattle: Killed 0 2023: 1
Injured and Destroyed: 0 2023: 3
Injured: 2 2023: 1
Uninjured: 0 2023: 2
Donkeys: killed: 1 2023: 0
Injured and destroyed: 0 2023: 1
Injured: 1 2023: 0
Nothing found: 2 2023: 0
Pigs: Killed: 3 2023 0
Injured and destroyed: 0 2023: 1
Injured: 0 2023: 1
Uninjured: 0 2023: 1
So the bottom line is 13 animals have lost their lives in the last 8 weeks this year. This does not include the pony that died in Beaulieu yesterday morning.
We ask that if you are unfortunate and have a collision with any livestock, that you call 999 immediately to prevent further suffering of the animal. Thinking 'I just winged it, it will be okay' is not Acceptable.
Please pass live stock slow and wide, and take extra care in the twilight and the dark.
