🌟 JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT MACHARS VET SERVICES 🌟

Two new position have become available at MVS!

• ANIMAL HANDLING ASSISTANT / RECEPTIONIST
This will be a mixed role involving both administrative work as well as animal handling, assisting the vets with procedures and patient care. Full training will be provided, but confidence in working with animals is essential, as well as basic IT skills. Excellent communication skills are vital. Ideally we are looking for someone able to work full-time, but consideration will be given to a part-time role for the right candidate. Must be able to work a Saturday morning regularly.

• REGISTERED VET NURSE
We are looking for a qualified veterinary nurse to join our team in providing exceptional care to our patients. Exact role can be tailored to suit individual applicant, but will involve some reception/admin duties.

We are very sad to report a deceased black & white cat has been handed in to us this evening. He has been hit and killed on the A75, close to the Newton Stewart roundabout.
Castrated male, believed to be a young adult.
If anyone is missing a cat of this description please let us know 😢.

Due to the severe weather warning in place for tomorrow we have taken the decision to CLOSE the practice for the day and operate on an emergencies only basis.

If you had an appointment for tomorrow you should already have been contacted to rearrange, but please do give us a call if you have not. Please DO NOT come down to the practice to collect medications or to book appointments as the building will not be open.

If you do have an emergency there will absolutely be a vet available, please just call the normal practice number to be connected with them. Thank you for your understanding!

Due to some very unfortunate personal circumstances, one of our clients is looking to rehome their lovely wee dog. He is an 8yo male Cocker Spaniel, fully house trained and very good natured. His current owners feel he would be best suited to a house without children. He gets on ok with other dogs, but can sometimes be nervous of them. If anyone thinks they might be able to offer this lovely wee boy a please contact the practice. Only 5* homes considered.

Anyone able to help us locate the owner of this wee dog? He was found running around Wigtown earlier today. He is microchipped and the database tells us his owners surname is O Brian, but we are unable to get hold of them on the contact telephone number listed. Please share! 🙏🏻

CAN ANYONE HELP? 🤔
We have had a cat handed into us who has been seen hanging around Maidland Place in Wigtown for a couple of weeks. He is a neutered male, in good condition and extremely friendly! We are sure he must belong to someone, but is unfortunately not microchipped. He is predominantly grey in colour, but with some very distinctive markings.

Next Wednesday (7th August) is Wigtown Show where we will be in attendance all day as proud sponsors! 😊
As such the practice will be CLOSED all day (emergency cover provided as always) so please make sure you bear this in mind if you need to order/collect prescriptions in the next week.

We are looking to help one of our lovely clients rehome a beautiful Border Collie - can anyone help?? 🤔

She is a 4yo neutered female, fully house-trained and travels well. This lovely girl is sweet natured, sometimes timid, but very loving and affectionate. She has done some scent-training and loves learning new things. She has no previous health problems.

The reason for rehoming is that she does not get on well with one of her other dog companions in the house. For this reason we are looking for a home with NO other dogs. She is great with cats, chickens and people though!! 😊

Her current owner is heartbroken to be in this position and will only consider a 5* home for her.

Can anyone help?? 🤞🤞

In an effort to reduce the number of invoices we are printing and posting, we would like to politely remind our small animal clients 🐶🐈‍⬛🐰that payment is requested at the time of consultation unless directed otherwise.

For those who do receive an account, we are trying increasingly to send our invoices via email 📧 . If you’re happy to receive your invoices via email then please let us know and we will make sure we have your correct email address saved!

Finally, if your pet requires repeat prescriptions , please could we ask you to give us at least 24hr notice ⏱️ where possible to allow us to order in any medications and to give our vets time to check and dispense these items.

Lambing season is now well underway and keeping our vets very busy this week!
There’s no time to rest for the ewes either though as the lovely ‘Goldilocks’ is demonstrating here… straight after a Caesarian section it’s back on on your feet and time to give the twins a bath!! 😍🐑🐑

On 1st September 2023 new regulations from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons were introduced, with additional rules coming into force on 12th January 2024. As a result, we have had to make some changes to our dispensing policies. The most noticeable change for our clients will be with regards to anti-parasitic drugs (wormers and flea treatments).

Now, vets can only legally prescribe prescription-only medicines after physically examining your pet. This may mean an extra visit to the practice, but please bear with us and be assured that we are doing our very best to help minimise the effect these changes have on our clients.

These changes are beyond our control but they have been put in place to fight drug resistance and environmental contamination. Please be patient with us as we implement them.
