Rawhide products may look appealing on store shelves during the Christmas period, but do you really know what you’re giving your dog? While they might seem like a festive gift, rawhide can pose serious health risks that no pet parent wants to face!

Here’s why rawhide isn’t the ideal Christmas treat:

❌ 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀: Rawhide can splinter or break into large chunks that are difficult to swallow. These pieces can become lodged in your dog’s throat or cause dangerous digestive blockages.
❌ 𝗧𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀: Many rawhide products are treated with chemicals like bleach or preservatives that can harm your dog. While they may look clean and white, they’re anything but natural.
❌ 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Unlike other treats, rawhide doesn’t break down easily in a dog’s stomach. This can lead to painful gastrointestinal issues that could require emergency veterinary care.
❌ 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Rawhide is often processed in facilities that may not meet high standards of cleanliness, which can lead to contamination with bacteria like Salmonella. This puts both pets and humans at risk.
❌ 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Some dogs have sensitivities or allergies to the chemicals used in rawhide production, leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, or skin irritation.

Make this Christmas a happy and healthy one for your furry friend! Skip the rawhide and opt for natural treats 🎁

Bonfire night can be overwhelming for our pets due to loud fireworks. Here are some tips to keep them calm and comfortable:

1. Daylight Hours: Walk your dog before it gets dark to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off.

2. Create a Safe Zone: Set up a quiet, cozy spot where your pet can retreat. Make it familiar with blankets, toys and their bed.

3. Keep Them Indoors: Close windows, doors and curtains to muffle the sounds and block out flashing lights. Don’t forget to lock the cat flap!

4. Provide Distractions: Give them interactive toys, treats, or play calming music to help focus their attention away from the noise.

5. Stay Calm: Your pet can sense your emotions. If you stay relaxed, they’re more likely to stay calm too. Allow them to hide if they wish and avoid shouting.

6. Consider Calming Products: Pet-friendly anxiety aids, such as calming sprays, plug-in diffusers or treats can help reduce stress.

7. Update Contact Information: Make sure your pets are wearing collars and tags with up-to-date contact information. Ensure their microchip details are also correct.
