With the sudden cold snap, we thought we'd share our top Winter tips ❄️

1) Make sure your horse or pony has access to water and buckets aren't frozen, water intake often increases in the Winter feeding more dry forage.

2) If you struggle to ride with frozen arenas and icy paths, don't beat yourself up about it! It's better to be safe and a break can often benefit both horse and rider.

3) Help prevent winter ailments such as mud fever by towel drying legs and if your horse is particularly prone, homeopathic Mud Aid may help prevent an infection.

4) Feeding a quality oil can be a cost effective way to aid extra calories without adding extra fizz.

5) Choosing the right rug for your horse's needs can help keep them comfortable (not too hot or cold) and influence their weight. Horses and ponies have evolved to fluctuate their weight throughout the year.

Sparse Winter grazing can increase the risk of sand colic.

Sand colic is caused by an accumulation of sand within the gut. Some horses choose to eat dirt, but sometimes ingesting sand when grazing is unavoidable.

Feeding a 5 day course of Psyllium every two months throughout the year can help prevent sand colic.

Psyllium is a great bulk forming fibre herb that swells to a gel-like consistency, carrying the heavy soil / sand particles out of the digestive system.

With Winter in full swing, we thought we'd share our top Winter feeding tips:

🐴Make sure you're not doubling up on nutrients, balancers often work out cheaper than cubes or a mix
🐴Weigh your horse or pony regularly so you are aware of any changes to their weight and adapt their diet quickly
🐴Feed the best quality hay / haylage available
🐴Ensuring a salt lick is available will help your horse or pony self regulate
🐴Keeping on top of worming and dental care will help make sure your horse is fully benefitting from their feed
🐴 Remember a horse's stomach is no bigger than a rugby ball, so don't feed too much in one meal

With dark nights upon us we’ve got some top tips to help you make the most of the next couple of months:

- Drop the guilt! If you don’t feel like riding as much or riding at all that’s ok. Horses and ponies can benefit from a break to reset mentally and physically.

- It can be a great time to organise tack and feed rooms or give your stable or grooming kit a refresh. Tack sales are a great way to make some money and clear out the kit you don’t need anymore.

- There are plenty of training opportunities in the Winter months. Why not treat yourself to a masterclass or complete an online course to enhance your knowledge.

Something so true and we all have to remember ❤️

Hey horse girl…
It’s okay if you have to take a rest.
It’s okay if you had the longest day ever, you’re running on 5 cups of coffee, you’re sitting in traffic, you’re at your wits end and trying to get to the barn before the sun goes down…. And you start to think maybe you should just go straight home instead.

It’s okay if you are getting over an illness, or an injury, you’re having a bad pain day, or your mental health isn’t in the best spot and you’re thinking… I don’t want to go to the barn today.

It’s okay if you have had a full day at work, chasing kids and adults, completing school projects, work projects, and your horses are with you at home and the barn chores get done but not much else.

Your barn can be your favorite place, and you can still need a 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒚.

Your horse doesn’t want to see you rushed, in a bad mood, sick or weak, or hurting and stumbling. Your horse wants to see you healthy, happy, and ready to give him or her all of your attention.

You don’t need to be everything to everybody every second of every day.

If your body is telling you to rest, listen to it… every day looks different 🖤
