Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for them. An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV).
Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a qualified OV because not every practice will have one. 🐱🐶

🐰Rabbit Awareness Week🐰

Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them
vaccinated early.
Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain immunity.🐇

Since you cannot check your teeth at home,it is important to look out for signs of dental disease.
There are many things that you can look out for that might indicate that your rabbit has some sort of dental health issue.
If you notice any of these signs, it is important that you bring your rabbit to your vet for an oral assessment as soon as possible. Stopping eating altogether is an emergency. 🚨🐇

🐰Rabbit Awareness Week 🐰
It’s rabbit Awareness week so we will be sharing some handy advice throughout the week, 🐇 Starting off with flystrike.
Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity
or arthritis).
Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find
any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible. 🐇

What a Mo! Wee Oscar is already Insta-famous with his own page celebrating his facial hair. He was in Dunfermline to join the Healthy Pet Club and receive his first vaccinations, flea and wormers. He also got a clean bill of health for his health check

Yvonne started with practice in 1997, qualifying as a RVN in 2001. A keen interest in anaesthesia and dog behaviour/training. She loves the outdoors and walking with her 2 dogs.🐶 Also mum to two daughters keeps her very busy.

Willow, Bailey and Morag (yes, we’ve seen her before!) loved todays trip to the Vets for their Puppy Party with Vet Nurse Jodie. Puppy parties and weigh and worm trips to the vets can be really helpful for socialising and helping your pup to be comfortable for when they really need to be at the vets.

We continue to celebrate our vet nurses at Albavet and todays nurse is Carol! Carol has over 30 years nursing experience and often passes her knowledge on to our student nurses. She enjoys surgical nursing, emergency and critical care. Outside of work Carol is kept busy looking after her two horses , 2 dogs 2 cats, and spending time with her husband.

Cheeky little Morag, an 8 week old puppy, has a penchant for nipping ear rings out of her Mum’s ears, managing to swallow it this time. Luckily we managed to get it out with minimal complications but we hope she learns not to do it soon!

🌟 OUR NURSES 🌟 Sophie.started at Albavet in 2019 during her first year at university and has been with us right through until she qualified in 2022. Sophie loves medical nursing and looking after the inpatients on the ward. She also has a particular interest in feline medicine and is currently completing her Feline Friendly Certificate.

Sam is currently Head Nurse at our Kirkcaldy practice and holds a exotics certificate as well as interest in surgery, anaesthesia and a clinical coach for our student nurses.
