Thursday 5th September - A space has just come available on a 50 bird walked up day in North Norfolk. Breakfast lunch and tea provided along with transport. We will be walking up a mix of cover crops and sugar beet. There will be an opportunity to swap dogs too. Dogs need to be of trial standard. Please message if you would like details.

Training will take place on two neighbouring estates near Castle Acre, Norfolk utilising parkland and water. The day is suitable for novice / and or open dogs - mainly walked up.

A good friend has two dog puppies available. They are seven weeks old. Both are big strong pups. Mum is CORRYMORE GOLDEN OF TEWELLERS - beautiful girl who is a daughter of our Harold. Sire of the pups is Laura Hill’s FT CH JARAILSTAR HOGEN OF STAUNTONVALE.
These pups will have the most kind temperaments, have drive and style and make fantastic pet / working dogs. Both parents are full health tested.

Feedback has started coming in from lots of folks who tried the dog behaviour challenge posted a few weeks ago. Lots of different experiences and different results from dogs in the same household. I thought I’d share Rosemary and Dexters video and Rosemary’s thoughts on the experience:
Here’s what I noticed with Dexter’s behaviour over the last 3 weeks of his sniff challenge.

A space has come available on the 18th & 19th April - Thursday and Friday this week on a training day with a group who have both open and novice dogs. We will be using a variety of ground to stretch the dogs, build experience and increase confidence. Please message me for details - can book one day only if diary allows. Delighted to announce the dates of the Rufriver Gundogs training days across the most spectacular Wicken and West Acre Estates in north Norfolk this year. Days are limited to six handlers per day so you can get the most out of your training. These days are suited too both novice and open dogs.
There will be opportunities to test your handling skills, utilise woodland, water and fences and later in the year, sugar beet and other cover crops.

At stud in Norfolk - Mr Tibbs. Fox red shade of poodle. Fantastic water dog - has worked all season retrieving goose off the foreshore on the Wash. Tibbs is fully health tested under the BVA schemes. He has a factor 10 on coat softness index.
Only serious enquiries for stud please. Stud fee £5,000 per mating - limited to 10 girls a year as there is a short breeding window with this strain of poodle. Maybe located in Barbados out of season. Contact allie at Rufriver Gundogs to make an enquiry.
Who wants to do a little dog behaviour experimentation?
I’m looking for around 30 people who are willing to try a little experiment for me. It’s really simple too 🤩
All you need is a dog(s), some food or treats and a bit of grass/woodland/rough area. Your garden is great unless you keep your lawn like Lord’s Cricket ground 😬
When you have 5 minutes during the day, all you need to do is take a good handful of food/treats and scatter them either in your garden (and yes it might get trampled so be aware), or you can do this on a walk. Please make sure there are no other dogs about!!You can do this scatter feed with all your dogs or just one.
When you scatter your food, you can let your dogs see you do this or just let them find your target area themselves. But say nothing. Scatter enough food to keep them occupied for 4-5 minutes. During this time just write yourself a little note (if at home, sit with a cuppa 😉) I want you to note your dogs’ energy levels before they have a sniff session, during the session and for 1-2 hours after. Note anything remarkable or anything that may be different - might be later in the day.
Ideally, if you can do this 3/4 times a day for 3 weeks that would be great! But I know some folks may be more limited for time. You can vary your sniff area, vary times of day you do this, etc.
Once you have completed the three weeks - pop me a message with your findings. Deadline is 20th April.
SPOILER ALERT - If you already do something similar, PLEASE DO NOT SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE OF THIS!! I want participants to try this without anyone else’s views/experience in their mind.

Sadly I’ve heard some horror stories recently from some new clients about what has happened with their dog / pup in lessons they have experienced in the past. If you are ever concerned about a trainer’s methods, you can say no and just politely leave.
Your dog, make sure you train it how you want.
