Today Just Paws - dog home boarding day care training and socialisation arrived in West cumbria for our Petdog to Gundog with Helen Merrett Just Paws MORNING SESSION
Of course I dragged her along to Stars Reactivity training session and we double teamed him and his mums!
What an awesome job he did, as well as making new friends he controlled his urge to be frustrated, and demand bark and was a very good boy!
Well done all and thank you again to Ruth Hankins for being the ultimate stooge with Shona, Alfie and Dazzle!

Star did brilliantly on his training session today. Although he came for Reactive Training - I would describe him as overly friendly leading to frustration on lead.
We used some rewards which he really wanted (meeting dogs) before letting him know that isnt always happening.
When you train with us we work with real life stooge dogs of all different kinds - today Star met a boy collie, a girl pointer and didnt meet but passed and worked around a king Charles spaniel and a cocker.
We have amazing stooge dog handlers who are brilliant at helping and putting you at your ease! Thank you Ruth for your assistance today!

A very sad update for those who knew Stuart and his sound support dog Whisper.
Stuart passed away last week and I wanted to write about him. He has been a massive part of ccs almost since I started instructing mantrailing. He wasn't only a client, he was a good friend, and he absolutely loved learning about dogs and training.
I made this video on the day I found out he had passed away as I couldn't sleep..
There are lots of happy memories here. Thank you to Kacey for letting me add in some of her photos which she took.
His very last day of trailing is here just before he went to hospital the first time.
Stuart was a lovely man - sometimes saying very random things (such as i ate so much cake i looked pregnant) but he loved to laugh and he was always up for anything.
He was on one of the very early introductions I did - will never forget losing him 🤣
He loved his dogs whisper and king and we all knew him for his love of trailing - he got everywhere all over the county!
Many of us counted him as a friend too and one of the things he used to do for newbies is give them his mantrailing booklet which he worked on himself.
Rest in peace Stuart xx
We had a lovely new team join us for trailing yesterday as well as some lovely regulars.
Yan the spaniel and mum Sally. Yan was very unsure about being able to go out in front at first - and fairly worried about the mad trail layer enticing him with pots of sardines...🤣🤣
It was so lovely to see his progress over the afternoon and head down ground scent on his final two trails..

After working on Emergency Down in Progression Class tonight I couldn't resist trying it with Willow.
He already has a down on voice command so I taught him stop first and then switched to using down as you can see in video.
He also already had a down at a distance - just needed to add in the movement back to me..

Recall is fundamentally built on relationship, focus and hard work. It won't ever get to 100% - at the end of the day your dog has free will - but you can get really close by doing the following things
🩷 have fun with your dog - if they want to be with you because your fun to be around - thats at least half the battle.
🧡 work on tricks or commands outside too - just 5 mins spread out over a walk means your dog gets used to switching on and off!
💛 pay well for the recall - this could be a lot of fuss, tasty treats or a game
💚 play games based on your dogs breed need - willow loves to hunt so we hunt his tennis ball, or my boyfriend...🤣
💙 I always throw in offload heelwork I try to cement the heel position whenever I can.

👉 Sunday mornings in March we have been working with 6 fantastic owners and dogs to improve reactivity.
👉 Some of the dogs are very anxious around dogs, some are over excited greeters.
👉 Here we are week 3 - we had some practise working around off lead stooge dogs, and also we had all 6 dogs working calmly around each other..

Willow is on big brother duty again to our newest boarder Teddy. Think he was confused as to how Teddy was only a baby but bigger than him🤣

🧡 Willow has been out on adventure duty today with newbie Betsy.
💛 She's only a baby so I do plenty of call backs to make sure they both learn to pay attention to the human and both keep up with some manners.
💚 They were both fantastic and really enjoyed each others company
So proud of this class - our first 100% 1min stay ever! We are preparing for our Bronze Good Citizenship test - most of these doggos came through from our Puppy classes - Mylee, Robbie and Myla. Archie had done lots with mum previously through lockdown and is now working brilliantly in a class situation.

All of our Progression Class students are busy practising for their Bronze Good Citizen award.
Here we concentrated on removing leads and collars without any escapees and leaving the room calmly without pulling the owner behind!
