Arundawn Dog Rescue We are a small self-funded rescue based near Horsham in West Sussex, providing rehabilitation and re All potential homes are
thoroughly vetted and checked.

I have been taking in stray and unwanted animals for many years, some have been severely abused. Some are looking for new homes due to changes in their owners circumstances, and some through total ignorance and neglect. All dogs are homed with an agreement that if, for any reason whatsoever, the dog needs to be homed in the future, they MUST be returned to me. Several dogs are in foster for me aro

und the United Kindgom so please do not be put off by distance. I ask for a nominal donation for the dogs that I rehome - this goes towards vet fees, in many cases castration and spaying and, of course, worming and feeding etc. There are an ever increasing number of abandoned, abused and unwanted animals that are arriving on my doorstep, so every penny helps! If you are interested, please contact me and I will forward the rehoming questionnaire and rehoming contract for you to fill in and return. Many thanks Elaine

ANNIE
7 yr old bitch
Annie is a delightful little dog - she is a poodle mix & arrived with us a month ago & went straight into foster with Amy & Glenn.
Amy says .... Annie was very shy & nervous on arrival but is coming out of her shell a little bit now with the help of Arthur, our resident rescue dog. She is just lovely and is desperate to be your friend but is nervous initially. Once she has sussed you are her friend she loves cuddles.
She is an active and energetic little dog who LOVES to walk and will need plenty of exercise.. she is currently walking for between an hour and two hours a day and thrives on this.
She absolutely LOVES other dogs & is keen to play though can be a little over exhuberant when she first meets and greets! She is not cat tested but has shown a little interest in attempting to chase squirrels whilst on her long line.
Annie enjoys snuggling up to her human on a sofa & will need to sleep in the bedroom (on her own bed). She will need a lovely calm and quiet home, ideally in a rural location with at least one other dog, no cats & no children under 12 please.
She is not fully house trained as yet but we are getting there! She can be left with another dog for up to 3 hours without any accidents or fuss
She really is a delightful little dog who would love to find her forever home

LUNA
4 yr old neutered female
DEAF
You may remember we were trying to find a forever home for this lovely girl. She is deaf and has had several homes and had lead a very sheltered and restricted life until recently.
She is VERY fearful of sudden touch / movement and strangers and we found what we had hoped would be her perfect home with a good friend of mine. Sadly her natural herding instinct has meant that she has pushed some of the other resident dogs to their limit and although cat 'friendly' - she plays VERY rough and herds them too!!!
So we are back to the drawing board a little now and are looking for her perfect home... she has quite specific needs
* A rural setting / non challenging with people out and about
* Plenty of space to run free without the confines of a lead as this is something she had not had previously and she loves to be free
* A single person / two person household without visiting children and with the facility to give space
* A small dog OR no dog
* Someone around most of the time who can continue her training and signalling etc
I KNOW this is a HUGE ask but she is such a gorgeous dog once she knows and trusts she is delightful.

A few more pictures of the lovely ZEUS
Zeus is just over 2 yrs old and is a neutered male Doberman. He is looking for a new home through NO fault of his own.
Another example of a breeder caring only about the money! Two brothers were sold together to a totally novice and irresponsible owner who then had to leave their rented accomodation as not allowed any pets!
The responsibility for the two boys was given to a lady who had never owned a dog! One large breed dog would have been more than enough but sibling males a VERY hard ask!
Sure enough the boys started to scrap and as they went through adolescence it became harder for her to manage both. One of our close friends and trainers has been helping to assess for us and we are now looking for a home for brother No. 1 - ZEUS.
He is a fun boy, can pull a little on lead but overall manners good, no reactivity but really does like to play. Recall is not great but he is a balanced and lovely boy.
We feel he 'may' be able to live with a calm female or as an only dog - having lived with his brother all his life.
Please only apply if you are prepared to put in the time to continue his education and give both good mental and physical stimulation.
He will make a wonderful friend and companion

These gorgeous puppies are still looking for their forever homes. Didi's babies are now 15 weeks old and we still have a lovely boy and girl - they really do need to be in homes, not stuck in a kennel! The lurcher puppies are nearly 12 weeks old now and again are ready to leave for their forever homes.
They are all fully vaccinated and microchipped, wormed etc and are bouncing healthy pups.
We have had some applications which we have deemed unsuitable for a variety of reasons and yes, we are 'fussy' because we want them to have the very best start and for that they require time, training and some level of experience so before we get comments to this effect, please remember our first and foremost priority is to our dogs.
Please share these youngsters to help find their forever homes ...
Thank you

TARN
Around 10 months to 1 yr old
Male
Met children of 6 yrs and over and well behaved
NOT cat tested
This lovely Saluki lurcher has been with us for nearly a week now and has settled well. He is house trained, walks well on lead, can be a little shy but is a lovely and gentle boy. In typical young lurcher fashion, he loves to play and can be fairly full on but he is indoors and doing well with a variety of others old and young. He is a big baby overall and a very sweet dog indeed.
He was another stray dumped and was extremely underweight but is gaining weight well now
He is looking for his forever home as soon as possible

Please do not buy. Throw them away if your dog gets one as a gift. Giving rawhide to a dog is never a good idea.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulfide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.

Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

KAYLA
After arriving last Wednesday and a visit to our vets Thursday, Kayla is settling well.. her ears were very sore and she is booked in for a dental and ear flush on Wednesday. She is a little senile .. but so are Thomas and Moss 🙈🤣
Today she went for a very special makeover with Tasha and is so very much happier... She looks amazing 😍 Nails done, full shampoo and shave and now can see again and we can manage her ear infection much better.
Massive thanks to Tasha and another amazing old lady x

RHEA

This lovely older lady is in foster and looking for her forever home. We believe she is around 8 to 10 yrs old. She is young at heart and loves people of all ages. She is house trained and a great companion ... We feel a more rural home would work better for her as although she ignores many dogs some can clearly upset her and she can be a little antisocial to others.
She is not cat friendly and not tested with children under 10 yrs old.
She really is a sweetheart and so deserves to find her forever home 🏡 x

Our Story

Arundawn was founded many years ago by Elaine Barter, the daughter of a veterinary surgeon and a bacteriologist. With this background and her exposure to animals needing help, Elaine began taking in stray and abandoned dogs when she was 19 years old. Some have been severely abused. Some are looking for new homes due to changes in their owners circumstances, and some through total ignorance and neglect.

All dogs are homed with an agreement that if, for any reason whatsoever, the dog needs to be homed in the future, they MUST be returned to Arundawn. Many dogs are in foster for us around the United Kingdom so please do not be put off by distance.

All potential homes are thoroughly vetted and checked.

We ask for a nominal donation for the dogs that we rehome - this goes towards vet fees, in many cases castration and spaying and of course microchipping, worming, vaccinating and feeding etc.
