A year ago today we got the wonderful news that our planning application to build our own small holding had been successful and we didn’t have to close down. 🥳

I am so pleased to say that we are now all moved in and the animals have settled in to their new permanent home.

Being out and about bringing joy and happiness with the lovely Bloom, just confirms to me that the various battles I have been fighting to keep this business going since March 2020 have all been worth it! 🥰

many of you will know I have not bred my farm cats this year as I didn’t want to be producing kittens in a recession and I wanted to give them a break. Instead all of my girls have been on a contraceptive injection so they could still free roam.
Turns out Tink really wanted to have babies though… Last week she went missing and when I found her she was very poorly. Sadly the kittens had died inside her and she couldn’t get them out. So over the bank holiday weekend she needed an emergency caesarean and her uterus removed as the dead kittens had ruptured it!
Thankfully despite numerous trips back and forth to the vets since the op, she is finally looking like she will actually survive.
This has cost £1700! She is worth every penny for all the gorgeous kittens she has produced for Pet Pals and I am eternally grateful that she is still with us but I must ask, why, when you have tried to do the right thing by the cats and not breed them, does life reward you in this way? Its especially hard when we are self and family funding all of the new build to give pet pals a permanent home and that is a huge chunk out of my budget!! 😔

So proud that Pet Pals has been running 13 years today! 🥂

I couldn’t have begun to imagine back in 2020 when the future seemed so bleak that I would in fact be grateful for the chance covid gave me to press reset on my business. I absolutely love that now I get to go out and see all my lovely residents and staff instead of spending all week in the office! 🥰

Only a small bottle of fizz to celebrate today as I’m saving the usual bottle of Tattinger for the very near future when we will be moving to our new permanent home… 😬

New year brings new life!
All these Serama eggs ready to go into the incubators today for visits in February… sadly we lost one of our cockerels to old age nearing the end of the egg collecting period so it’s fingers crossed that he was still performing his duties in the days before he passed! 🫣🤞

As lovely an experience as this probably was, I can’t begin to say how much it concerns me. Not only is a reindeer a very large animal but look at the antlers. I have the horns on my therapy goats removed to keep residents safe as you just never know when an animal might get spooked no matter how well trained it is. It fills me with horror that this large animal with such dangerous antlers could be taken into the bedroom of a vulnerable elderly lady. Thank goodness nothing scared it and no body got hurt!
