My name is Lesley and I'm the Company Director of Paws Up Academy Ltd. Through Paws Up Academy Ltd I bring to you a fully insured, experienced, local, highly qualified & professional Dog Training service in Frinton on Sea and surrounding areas. From Puppies to Senior

s, all domestic breeds accepted*. I come to you to train with you & your dog 1 on 1 in your home or local environment. I train using the Positive Reinforcement model which means I do not use force, pain or fear in my training methodology. Here's some of my credentials. Graduate with Distinction of the prestigious Victoria Stilwell Academy for Dog Training & Behaviour as an In Person student and granted official status as a VSA-Certified Dog Trainer (In Person), (VSA-CDT). Diplomas through the highly regarded Centre of Excellence, all passed with Distinction, in Puppy Training, Dog Training, Canine Communication, Understanding Canine Anxiety, Canine Behaviour Training & Canine First Aid. Canine Training Professional and an Accredited Pet Dog Ambassador Instructor & Assessor through the Pet Professional Guild British Isles (PPG). Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). Certified Family Dog Mediator through L.E.G.S.® Applied Ethology. Certified Fun Scent Games Instructor through Dognostics. Member of Doggone Safe, meaning I am committed to providing quality dog bite prevention through education to children, families and the community. Canine Arthritis Management Advocate. This means I am entitled to advertise my greater understanding of osteoarthritis in dogs and through incorporation of this knowledge in my professional work can offer my clients an improved service provision. Paws Up Academy Ltd is a sponsor of the Yellow Dog Campaign raising awareness that 'some dogs need space'. I am Criminal Record Checked.

*For Dogs with severe aggression issues please contact your Vet for referral to a Canine Behaviour Specialist.

*I currently do not offer training for Canine Protection, Security Dogs, Assistance Dogs, Therapy Dogs, Medical Alert Dogs, Ring Work, Competitive Agility, Heelwork to Music, Flyball, Dock Diving, Competition Obedience or French Ring. Most important of all - I love dogs!

According to Guinness World Records the loudest dog bark ever recorded was at 113 decibels and came from a Golden Retriever!! A jet plane taking off is just above that at 120dB! Woof!!

Some believe the silver colour is a result of adding Weimaraner into the gene pool, others believe it's a natural dilution of the brown colour gene. Either way, beautiful.

Have just completed an amazing course through Michael Shikashio's 'Aggressive Dog', entitled "Eating is Essential".
Whilst not directly dealing with canine aggression this was most informative regarding 'picky' eaters, elderly dogs whose appetites have naturally waned over the years and animal husbandry.

Excellent recall training session today at Strawberry Field. Almost 100% focus for the whole length of the field! Fantastic achievement for this XL American Bully who is only 19 weeks old.

Asking for a break in play

I am often asked about dog play getting ‘out of hand’ with humans so I regularly suggest copying what dogs do - stop play and be a boring statue. Here are my two dogs playing. Note how my male on two occasions stops the play by being a statue and deliberately looks away from the female. Note how she lip licks to confirm the break giving off a classic calming signal after which, the male resumes play. But also note how in the dog world things happen very fast, much faster than in the dog / human world. On the last occasion my male pretends he is interested in something else rather than her and that too gives a break in play as she again lip licks to confirm she is ready for the break.
