🐾 A Special Visitor at Cavan Vets 🐾

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the most adorable little puppy to our clinic recently!

This tiny ball of fur melted hearts the moment she walked through the door, wagging her little tail and showing off her sweet, playful personality.

We can’t wait to see her again as she continues to grow, and we’re so grateful to be a part of her journey! 💕

🪱🪱🐩🐾😾 GUESS THE ENDOPARASITE 😾🐾🪱🐩🐾
...
.........

This is a Whipworm (Trichuris vulpis)

They can cause serious health issues for our pets. They are about 1/4 inch long and have a whip-like shape, with a thick front end and a long, thin back end. Whipworms live in the cecum and large intestines where they attach to the mucosal lining and cause irritation. This can lead to bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and general debilitation.

Any internal parasites can cause issues for our pets and it's paramount to protect them against them.

From Monday 12th August our Oxley Branch are offering completely FREE faecal sampling for ALL patients. This is to offer us some information on the proportions of pets which are unknowingly carrying parasites. It's also an invaluable resource for anyone with cats or dogs as it will allow you to identify if your pet has any. It also enables us to identify if your current parasite control schedule is working to protect your pet. This scheme will go on for 8weeks.

If you would like to participate please bring your pets faecal sample into the practice (Oxley Branch) in a clean, air tight tub, alternatively pop into the practice and we can provide you with a faecal pot.

Day 2 of looking at common Endoparasites in your pets!!! 🪱🐩🐾😾

This picture shows a Tapeworm!!

Tapeworms are another very common worm we encounter in our pets. They often go alongside flea infestations so if your pet ever has fleas it's vitally important to treat them against tapeworm too.

Tapeworm protection often isn't found in combination parasite treatments so a lot of people miss out on protecting their pets against these nasties.

Symptoms of a Tapeworm infection may not be obvious but can include, vomiting, diarrhoea, innapatence and scooting.

Tapeworms also pose a high risk to human health as are zoonotic meaning we can also catch them.

If you would like to check to see if your pet has any internal parasites or to check that your current parasite treatment protocol is effective for your pet then we are offering all our clients pets FREE of charge faecal testing. This is being offered from our Oxley Branch from the 12th August for 8 weeks.

This is completely FREE and we are encouraging everyone to participate to ensure your pets are protected.

Samples can be brought to our Oxley Branch in a clean, air tight container or you can collect a faeces pot from us :)

CAN ANYONE NAME THIS PARASITE?? 🤢🪱

This week we will be focusing on endoparasites as starting the 12th August our Oxley Branch will be taking part in a study to identify what internal parasites our pets have!! And as part of this we are able to offer all our patients FREE of charge faecal testings!! .............
This is a roundworm and is the most common endo parasite found in pets. Almost all cats and dogs will be infected at some point throughout their life....and lots are infected at birth as they can catch them in utero!!

These worms can also pass to owners and families so it's very important to ensure your pet receives regular worm treatments not only to protect them, but also you too.

Often we don't see symptoms but they can make them very poorly, particularly in young ,old or immunocompromised patients. Symptoms can include a pot bellied appearance, sickness, diarrhoea.

The study starts on the 12th August and will allow all clients to bring a faecal sample to our Oxley Branch FREE of charge.....the sample will be sent to an external lab who will check to see if your pet has any parasites. This is an invaluable resource as it will allow us to see if your pet has any nasties, it will also allow us to determine if your current parasite control is effective or needs to be amended.

If you would like your pets faeces tested free of charge please take a sample into our Oxley Branch from the 12th August...we will be running the trial for 8weeks.

Faecal pots are available to be collected from the practice....alternatively if you pop it into a clean, air tight container we can sort the rest at drop off.

All cats and dogs can be tested :)

It’s going to be a 🔥 week again !

It is set to be a HOT one this week and the weekend with temperatures in the mid to late twenties all week!
May we kindly remind you..

🔥PLEASE DO NOT WALK YOUR DOGS IN THE HEAT🔥

With weather soaring ALL this week - May we remind you with the soaring temperatures set for this week and weekend.
A dog’s normal body temperature is between 38.3°C- 39.2°C.
At 43°C a dog’s organs begin to shut down.

What you should do if your dog is in danger of heat stroke:

🐾 Move the dog out of direct sunlight
🐾 Place the dog on top of wet towels-do not cover the dog with the towels
🐾 Place the dog in front of a fan
🐾 Offer small amounts of tepid water
🐾 Add a pinch of salt into the dog’s water to help replace any lost minerals from drooling
🐾 Vigorously massage the dog’s legs - get the circulation moving whilst lowering the risk of shock
🐾 Apply tepid to cool water to paw pads, chest & underarms
🐾 Avoid walking in direct sunlight for long periods of time.

Walk your dogs early in the morning or late at night when it’s cooler
*Use cooling equipment such as a bandanna or jacket to help keep cool

Top Tip: NEVER leave your dog in a car. Always ensure your pets have plenty of fresh water.

If you are unable to lower or control your pets temperature seek urgent veterinary advice.

Thank you

🐾 YOU CAN STILL HELP 🥰

The girls at our Willenhall branch are organising a car boot this summer to raise fund to help poorly and injured strays and rescue animals.

Often these animals require intensive treatments, which can’t always be done by ourselves and can result in significant financial costs.

We are raising money so we can continue to help those in desperate need.

Do you have any bric a brac or items you would be willing to donate towards our carboot, anything would make a big difference ☺️☺️

Once we have enough donations we will release a date for the carboot and would love to see you all there to say hello 👋

Donations can be taken to either our Willenhall or Oxley Branch. Collections may be possible if local.

The pictures show some of the incredible staff taking part last year 🥰

Thank you in advance from all the staff and animals at cavan Willenhall.

** PLEASE NOTE.....we are NOT a rescue centre.....we help the most severe cases when needed and when the only other option may be euthanasia. If you have an uninjured stray please please contact a local rescue organisation before they become poorly. If they are injured or poorly please contact us for advice. We are also happy to check strays for chips. *** Cavan vets
