Advanced McTimoney Animal Chiropractor, massage and Emmett practitioner, for all animals, with a particular interest in horses and dogs. Covering Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Hampshire

Fully qualified and insured, holding Masters degree in Animal Manipulation from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic as well as the Advanced Certificate in Animal Chiropractic. Each session is tailored to the indiv

idual animal, as is any appropriate aftercare advice. This is a gentle treatment, that is very effective and looks at the whole body. The treatment can be used as a preventative measure, to help maintain performance or it can be used after an injury or long term issue such as arthritic changes, to help treat the body tightness that would ave developed as secondary to the injury.

- horses, examples:
- slipping in the fields or out riding, can cause misalignment
in their spine, leading to tight muscles, poor performance
and discomfort. Signs can include bucking, napping, 'cold
backed', refusal to perform.

- ill fitting tack causing pinching and muscle tightness

- injury or lameness, that cause secondary muscle tightness
and spinal misalignments that do not go away once they
are sound again,

- to help relieve pain and discomfort as a result of arthritic
conditions.

- dogs, examples:
- exuberant play, including with other dogs and chasing
balls. This all includes twisting of the spine at speed,
creating a lot of force through an area that is already very
mobile, twisting and turning on limb joint and leaping in the
air. All of which, especially over time, can cause body
tightness and misalignment that need to be treated before
they become chronic.

- falling over, or being knocked over.

- secondary discomfort and tightness due to
compensating from a degenerative disease such as hip
dysplasia or an acute injury such as cruciate ligament
damage. I work closely with the animal's vet, and vet permission must be received before a treatment is undertaken.

Lovely session treating this beautiful horse. He went for lots of deep 'snoozes' then massive great stretches. Needless to say as soon as I got my camera out, he went camera shy 😁🤣. An extra bonus, his owner very kindly gave me a box of triple choc chip biscuits. They were much enjoyed. Thankyou.

Looking for someone to share my field, DIY basis. Bishops Caundle, between Sherborne and Kings Stag / Sturminster Newton way. One, possibly 2 above 13.2 in height. Must be unshod and no laminitics please, although if a good doer like my boy that's fine. Also, please, no horses with extreme separation anxiety! 5 acres, managed on a grass track and strip grazing in the summer. Natural shelter and access to feed and tack room. £25 per week which goes to the field owner, not me. References will be asked for, please.

Beautiful Toby snoozing after his McTimoney session. Such an honour that the horses allow me to treat them, and that the session helps them realign their body.

McTimoney Animal Chiropractic is a gentle and effective treatment, aiming to restore range of motion to the joints and remove muscular discomfort. These can be a result of general everyday activities such as riding, or from an injury, or secondary to a long standing, chronic condition. If not addressed, the body will work unevenly, putting strain unevenly on the muscles and making them more prone to injury.

I always say to my clients, maintenance is essential to prevent injury. It is better to treat a horse before he gets to the stiff and sore point, so don't leave it too long between bodywork sessions .

A post from a friend of mine. Is there anyone that can help them please? Lovely people and horses. All barefoot so less damaging to the land.

Helloooo!! I joined this group as I am desperately looking for grazing!! We have a small herd (2 mares, 2 geldings), and exactly one month before they need to move.
We're based in Castle Cary, Somerset, but willing to travel (not silly distances). Only need a field for now, they all live out 24/7.
We're seriously desperate, do let me know if you know of anything!
Pleaseandthankyou 🤞

Apparently Millie went to bed an hour earlier last night, tired out after her McTimoney treatment 🤩😍. The treatment is very gentle, and the body carries on processing and healing long after the session has ended.

It takes a team to help your animals stay sound and comfortable. It is always a collaboration as we all bring different skill sets to the table. Today my little Loki went for a massage session with the wonderful Jo from . I treat Loki on a regular basis with McTimoney Animal Chiropractic and massage. However I wanted Jo to have a look and she did wonders for Loki. Thankyou so much. Loki thoroughly enjoyed herself and is now snoozing at home.
It is worth considering if a multi therapy approach may benefit your animal if you are not quite getting to the root of the problem with the current therapy you are using.
Food for thought perhaps?

One of my wonderful clients 😁 Bumble is gorgeous.

Bumble had a check up today with his wonderful chiropractor - McTimoney For Animals.

Despite his best RSPCA face, he actually enjoys these treatments and even managed to stay still for the second half!

If you own a sports dog this may be a regular occurrence for you, but I am a HUGE believer that pet dogs should get check ups too - particularly if they have had a behaviour change or a behaviour struggle.

A recent study showed that 80% of behaviour struggles have some form of pain involved, and this can be hidden unbelievably well by our dogs. This means that any behaviour change or struggle should always be investigated thoroughly by a vet or similar professional (physio / chiro). Any training you do will be far less effective if the underlying cause hasn't been dealt with. If you have done 121s with me you will probably have heard me talk about this or may have been sent for a vet check at some point!

One benefit of these type of professionals is that they usually come to your home. I have no doubt that Bumble (being a lunatic spaniel) would hide any pain very well in a vets room because he would be dancing around trying to give everyone a kiss. In his session today he relaxed enough that we could identify some sore spots in his back and a misalignment in his shoulders.

If you are in any doubt, check it out. The worst case scenario would be your dog gets a lovely massage - best case is you find that missing piece to the puzzle!

Whiskey thoroughly relaxed during his gentle McTimoney Animal Chiropractic and massage treatment. This was his 3rd session. His friend followed suit in an identical pose. Whiskey was very guarded during his first session and would allow only a certain amount to happen. 2nd session I can in and he presented his lower back to me. This time he snoozed through most of the session. He was obviously much more comfortable and trusting of the treatment and me.
If you would like your dog or horse treated, please contact me.

Fascinating to see this. Keep the work light for your youngsters.

This is so true.
26/02/2024

This is so true.

You get what you are actually training, not what you THINK you are training.

If your horse practices more time moving in tension, you are training tension.

If your horse practices more time moving in relaxation, you are training relaxation.

If your horse spends more time feeling stressed in a training situation than they do feeling relaxed, you are teaching them that training is stressful.

Even if your intention is relaxation -

If they spend 40 minutes moving in tension, for you to achieve 2 minutes of relaxation at the end of that session...

You have been training your horse to move in tension.

If your horse spends 5 minutes moving in relaxation, to then fall out of that relaxation, for you spend 15 minutes in tension trying to get back to relaxation...

You have been training your horse to move in tension.

You have to set your horse up for success - both emotionally and physically.

And relaxation or compliance, which occurs after your horse has fatigued from spending sustained time in tension, will unlikely be teaching your horse anything meaningful.

Despite what your ego might want, you do not have to end a session on a good note.

Because after all, you get what you train ❤️

Hands on, regular body work by a qualified and experienced practitioner can help prevent or alleviate this issue. Please contact me if you would like your horse or dog to receive a gentle, yet very effective body work session, which includes McTimoney animal chiropractic and massage.

In the image, there are the shoulders of three horses.

Look at pictures 1. and 3. and try to imagine those with a skin on.

There would be similar bumps and groves over the triceps brachii (which should not be there - compare it with the middle picture).

What are they?
Tight fascia or overdeveloped muscle or muscle with an anatomical variation or all or any combination of those three?

Remember, all this would be hidden under the skin, and it would be hard to get the right answer if we tried to judge the horse from one photograph posted on FB :-)

Happy Christmas to all my friends and clients. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing, and enjoyable festive time. I look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.

Photo of the best present of them all, Bill ( somehow the tree and presents have survived the attentions of Bill and his brother, Ben, so far. This time last year they were sitting in a cat rescue pen, and had been since August, apparently no one wants black cats, strange. They found me in February last year so this is their first Christmas with us, at nearly 2 years old ❤️ ,🐈‍⬛. The most loving cats ever. )

Lovely feedback from a client on their first ride after the 24hrs rest, post treatment.

'It was so nice to ride Buddy today. His hind legs and back feel so much freer, and the front is lighter .
Thank you.'

It is great to get feedback, thankyou.

Our Story

Please have a look at my website for a more detailed description of how this can benefit your animal. I hold my MSc from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Oxford, I am fully insured and I work closely with the animal’s vet. The McTimoney technique is a gently approach to correcting spinal and joint misalignments and releasing associated muscle tension. It focuses on the whole body but with specific attention to the spinal column as this must function as it houses the spinal cord which carries messages to and from the brain to the rest of the body.

The adjustments rely on speed and accuracy, rather than force, using only my hands. Targeting the specific problem areas and enabling the muscles. Massage, stress point release, Emmett and stretches are incorporated into the treatment, complimenting the McTimoney adjustments and appropriate aftercare advice is provided. Most animals take readily to the treatment and many find it relaxing. However, it is not a quick fix. The therapy initiates the healing process, allowing the animal’s body to heal itself and each animal responds differently depending to the problem and how long the animal has had it. The McTimoney treatment can help competition and working animals, family pets, seniors and post-injury patients as part of the rehabilitation process.
