ANUBIS

Wee cheeky chops was back for another greycation. This wee chap is a bundle of fun and mischief. He's such a happy wee thing 😍 unless it's raining, but that's no different to any other sighthound 😂. This time, he brought his favourite ostrich bone....it was nearly as big as him 😂😂😂😂😂

Are you interested in fostering? Contact us today!!!

We are currently in desperate need of more foster homes - we have both male and female greyhounds waiting to put their paws up.

The perks:
⭐️ It's fun!
⭐️ It's free!
⭐️ You get to borrow a dog for a wee while!
⭐️ An excuse for taking a gazillion dog photos 📷

To foster we ask for homes with:
🐱 No cats
👶 No young children
🐶 No very small breeds
Why? Because none of the hounds are tested before they arrive, we don't know how they will react.

Find out more / apply at:
https://www.gagah.co.uk/fostering
If you'd like a short chat about what is involved, please call Pat on 07572 402756 / Steph 07941 239909, and please leave a message if we can't answer straight away 😊

So sad to see this 💔

A customer once said to me "we pay you for a service but that doesn't cover the love you give to our hounds.....". This applies to Stevie and Katie. They give all the groos love in spadefuls and treat them like their own babies so I know this has been a hard decision to make.

Chin up guys and good luck in the future. It's tough just now but things will move on for the better 💙🩷

Ancroft Hounds

Today we made the difficult decision to
permanently close Ancroft Hounds, effective 1st October 2024. A decision that’s been weighing on our minds for a while now.

Various changes in our personal circumstances, some planned and some unplanned, have made it increasingly difficult for us to provide a safe and secure place for our boarding hounds to feel like they are at their home from home. We are finding it difficult to provide the highest standard of care that we pride ourselves on and we simply will not compromise on our belief that when a hound is with us the hound must come first. This belief has been at the core of everything we’ve done for the past two years. As has honesty.

While this is a short term problem it has also given us the opportunity to analyse the business as a whole in the long term. It is becoming more challenging financially to balance fees, wages, and costs. While we love the hounds with all our hearts, Ancroft Hounds is a business. The workload required to meet these challenges would not be viable and we don’t want to pass on significant price rises to customers, who are also feeling the effects of the rising costs of living.

We know we will have disappointed a lot of our customers whose bookings we have had to cancel between October and Christmas, and we are truly sorry. We’ve done our best to help secure alternative accommodation for you all. We just couldn’t have anticipated the changes in our lives we’ve experienced over the past months, and the stresses we’ve been under.

Ancroft Hounds has been a brilliant endeavour and it’s something we are extremely proud of. We had no idea it would be so successful and we have learned so much.

Other Sighthound boarders have started offering services, which is brilliant to see. It is an amazing community that we have been part of and we wish them luck.

We are still assessing whether or not we will open a very limited daycare service for our regular daycare hounds but sadly this post marks the end of what’s been an unforgettable two years for us, and our boarding adventures must now come to an end. Please check our sister page for updates to The Sighthound Social as we make them.

We have notified all our customers with bookings in 2024. If you have a 2024 booking and have not heard from us please reach out to us immediately.

Thank you to everyone, our customers, friends and family for supporting and encouraging our little business. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We must also single out Greycations without whom our business would not have gotten off the ground. Sharons advice and sold out diary got us going quicker than any advertising ever would have!

Give your hounds a hug from us, and a good scritch too.

Thank you.

Stevie and Katie.

BOUNCY BILL 😍💙

It’s been a while since Bill was in.

This boy is big in character and personality😍. He always has such a zest for life. Nothing phases Bill, he's so laid back. This gorgeous gent is in his advancing years but he loves his walks. His walks might be shorter these days but boy does he love all the snifferamis. It's great to see he’s still so bouncy, even if his legs are a bit shaky at times. Trying to get him to pose for a snap on walks was impossible, he’s always on the move.

It was lovely to see you again Bill.😍

It's so much fun having family time 😍.

Over the last 2 weeks we've had our 2 grandgroos in.....Kramer first, then the double act of Kramer and Frankie, then some Frankie time.

These two rub along just fine. They aren't besties but they are good together (thank the Lord given the number of family events we have 😍). The only time I need eyes in the back of my head is feeding time 🤣. I've got to be on it 👀 or they're on each others dinner 🤣

We absolutely loved having them individually and together for proper full on greycations 😍

A great wee walk today at the GTWS walk in Drumpelier with Kramer. Lots of lovely hounds there. I especially loved seeing Lewis again 🥰 (who recently found his forever home)

Little Kitty hound (beautiful brindle girl), who my friend John walked was such a wee superstar. It won't take long for her to find her forever home....she was amazing on the walk.

An update on little Grace who went missing in Greenock/Gourock.

She is indeed a wee miracle.

Lurcher Link Rescue

An update on Grace, from her owner:

"A quick update on Grace : She has a couple of shaved areas due to pressure sore on shoulder and fly strike (eggs fortunately had not had time to hatch) at rear end. She's been moving around a bit more this morning, which is good. Definitely more relaxed and more responsive generally. She's eating well (little and often and quantities per vet school instructions).

Lots of medication, drops etc for eyes, especially damaged left eye, throughout the day. But, improving day by day. She's due to see the ophthalmologist on 18th; meantime, we have to monitor the left eye for signs pressure is building up in it.

It's incredible she survived. Since then, we've been able to establish her most likely route was indeed taking her back to a familiar (and distinct, given number of hounds) smell a couple of miles away, but she possibly became disoriented and veered off not to far from there.

Thank you to everyone who helped with finding her. 🥰 "

When looking to home a retired greyhound here are a few pointers to consider.

* Are the entire family committed to getting a greyhound

* At the initial contact stage and home visit please be truthful about all circumstances. If you work in the office tell us you do. There’s no point in telling us you work hybrid or from home if you don’t.

* Any other pets ? Whilst this isn’t exhaustive there’s no need for surprise at the home visit hamsters, gerbils etc are pets also let us know when we ask, it won’t necessarily stop you from adopting but it may make the choice of dog different.

There’s nothing more distressing to the dog if they go to a home then have to be returned for something as simple as the truth not being revealed at an early stage.

A dog can be a 10 year plus commitment if you get it right from day 1 then you will be rewarded a million times over.

Greycations is a bespoke hound home boarding service.

Aimed at Greyhounds, it provides a one on one quality pet care option designed as an alternative to kennels. Greycations allows your dog to go on their own vacation staying with someone who has hound experience and can provide a welcoming, loving and secure environment in a private home. During COVID 19 I am doing some fostering for the re-homing charities.
