It begins. This is a genuine slide leaked from a Hills presentation. They are moving to "prescription diet fresh meals" (each one of the words needed its own sarky air quotes but it would be too hard to read), now using "real protein" (in the form of slices of beef steak, apparently) as their pet MAY be unhappy eating regular kibble that might not taste good...which may be the first truth they've uttered in decades.

Never forgive and never forget what these people will say and do to sell you trash.

Did you know that there are more ways to sterilize your pet than spay and neuter? Hormone-sparing sterilization maintains natural hormone levels and includes hysterectomy (for females) and vasectomy (for males). Studies show that the balance of hormones plays an important role for many parts of the body, not just for s*x organs. Spay and neuter can cause negative health and behavior outcomes, which depend on several factors, such as breed, age, and more.

🍀 GOOD LUCK BEAR 🍀

Bear has his day in court tomorrow, we are hoping he will be allowed to go back home to his owners who are broken hearted at having him seized.

Bear was at home, the property has large gates to stop the dogs getting out, unfortunately, whether someone opened the gate or it hadn't been properly shut, Bear got out.

Right outside the home another dog owner was walking their dog, there was a scuffle with the other dog and Bear, the owner of the other dog sustained a minor injury. This led to Bear being seized.

Bear's owners are pensioners but are very experienced dog owners, having owned GSDs for over 40 years, they are not irresponsible owners. Their pension put them just over the threshold for legal aid, we have fundraised to pay for his independent assessment by Helen Howell Dog Behaviour Expert and his legal represenHelen Howell Dog Behaviour Expert Cohen Cramer Solicitors

This is Roger. Two years ago a visitor to the home bent down to greet Roger and unfortunately Roger caused an injury to the visitors face that required hospital treatment. It is unclear whether this was as a result of over excitement or an aggressive response from Roger. Roger has never shown any aggression outside of this incident and aggression would be out of character for him. Roger was seized by the police and has been in police kennels for the last two years. There have been no reports of Roger being aggressive while in kennels and Roger was a sociable dog during my assessment with no sign of aggression. Roger’s owners were devastated about the incident and very determined to make sure nothing similar could happen again. They pleaded guilty at court and the prosecution were not seeking a destruction order. I did not attend the magistrates court hearing as the prosecution agreed my report which suggested some measures that could protect public safety should Roger be returned home. The magistrates’ however ordered the destruction of Roger. Roger’s owners appealed this decision and today in the Crown Court I gave evidence about Roger’s behaviour and the fantastic KC Cathryn McGahey presented the case for Roger to be allowed home with a contingent destruction order. Thankfully the court agreed and Roger is going home. Roger’s family are delighted and said it is the best Christmas present ever!

RESEARCH REQUIRED!

Choosing a dog just because of the way they look.

We wouldn’t choose a partner or make a commitment to sharing our lives with someone based purely on the way they look – (I suppose there could be exceptions in some cases!)

We would first really get to know them, what kind of personality they have and who they really are before making that sort of commitment.

Yet people continue to choose dogs just because of the way they look.

Maybe they saw a dog like that in a movie that they enjoyed or maybe they just really like the way they look, without having any understanding or thought to learn about what that particular breed was selectively bred to do and what behaviour might be expected.

The way a dog behaves is not always specific to the breed. Dogs are individuals, with their own unique personality and their behaviour is shaped not only by genetics, but by specific life and learning experiences and environment, but problems can happen when the traits of that breed and their specific needs are not taken into account.

Some breeds may just simply not be compatible with a particular person or family’s needs, lifestyle, environment or expectations.

Is it fair or ethical to need to suppress, train out or even punish breed specific tendencies, calling them behaviour problems, when we hold a dog in a captive environment that is unsuitable for them.

First research the breed and learn all you can about potential traits and what to expect before making that choice.

🎉 KIANA HAS BEEN GRANTED EXEMPTION 🎉

Kiana was seized in July 2022, she and the other family dog were seized after Kiana was involved in a minor incident. Both dogs were subsequently assessed as Pit Bull type by Humberside police.

Due to the owner having young children in the home the courts were reluctant to return her. Following an assessment which found her to be a 'lovely and affectionate girl', plus a home assessment and full report for the court, carried out by Helen Howell Dog Behaviour Expert , it was decided that another member of the family would apply for exempt keepership of Kiana.

The courts have granted exemption today, the excellent defense was prepared by Four Legs Law - part of Cohen Cramer Solicitors and Helen also attended court to give first hand evidence of her assessment of Kiana.

She will be returned to live with the close family member once all the paperwork is completed.

Narla, who was not involved in any incident is still waiting for her final court date, the two cases were dealt with separately by the courts.

We are very grateful that Four Legs Law - part of Cohen Cramer Solicitors do legal aid cases, this meant we didn't need to ask for donations to defend these dogs at court.

This.
Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to perform in Hollywood's most popular nightclub, The Mocambo, because of her race & body size. Marilyn Monroe, who was a big fan, called the owner and explained that if he booked Ella, she would be there every night, which guaranteed huge press coverage. He booked Ella and Marilyn was there, front table, every single night as promised. Ella said, "After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman, a little ahead of her time, and she didn’t even know it.”

Real women support other women. ♥️💯

AGGRESSION IN DOGS

A dog will give you many clues and signs that he is uncomfortable and that he needs you to keep your distance before he bites or attacks. The aggression or bite is never 'out of the blue'. The signals he gives is designed to avoid conflict.

Each situation is different...watch for behaviours that can also skip a few steps in the ladder, hence the escalation is quicker...

Learn to read the initial signs. Learn to read your dog’s body language...

A bad dog owner dumped this wolf at the shelter when he got too big and too much to handle. Luckily a sanctuary took him instead and saved his life. His DNA testing came back as 87.5% grey Wolf, 8.6% Siberian Husky, and 3.9 German shepherd. Don't scroll without giving us some love ❤️🐺.

LONG HAIR
Traditionally, long hair was always a symbol of masculinity. All of history's great warriors had long hair, from the Greeks (who wrote odes to their heroes' hair) to the Nordic, from the American Indians (famous for their long shiny hair) to the Japanese. And the longer and beautiful the hair was, the more manly the warrior was considered. Vikings flaunted their braids and samurai wore their long hair as a symbol of their honor (they cut their braid when they lose honor).
When a warrior was captured, his mane was cut to humiliate him, to take away his beauty. That custom resumed in what is today military service. There when new soldiers begin their training the first thing they do is cut their hair to undermine their self-esteem, make them submissive and make them see who's boss.
The Romans were the ones who "invented" short hair so to speak, between the 1st and 5th centuries AD.. In battles they believed this gave them defensive advantages, since their opponents couldn't grab them by the hair. This also helped them to recognize each other in the battlefield.
Short hair on men is a relatively new "invention" that has nothing to do with aesthetics.
But today we often see men being humiliated, sometimes called "gay" for wearing long hair, not knowing that short hair is actually the "anti-masculine" and is a repressive social imposition, while long hair symbolizes freedom.

UTONAGAN

Utonagan (pronounced Utonargan)means Spirit of The Wolf. The dogs of this type were named in the early years of this century, when several breeders of what had hitherto been Northern Inuit dogs had a totally different vision for them than what was being pursued at that time. So they became a separate type, with their roots deeply embedded in the dogs originally developed by Eddy Harrison in the late 1980's /early 1990's

They are an active intelligent dog needing families that have the ability to think outside the box in order to give them the variety and input upon which they thrive. Although they excel at many Canisports such as Cani x, Flyball, Bikejoring, Scootering to walking and hiking, they like nothing better than to lie down in front of the fire, preferably on your couch with their head on your favourite cushion!! Absolutely wonderful family dogs, full of fun, loving and loyal till the end, they truly adore 'their' children and take their responsibilities to their young charges very seriously indeed

They are not an easy dog at all, and not for everyone, you need the patience of a saint, the mental strength of 10 men, excellent DIY skills (to repair the destructon they can wreak on your home and car)and enjoy and welcome the challenge of being part of Life With A Utonagan
