Do you ever notice your dog or cats ears looking like this? If so, this may be caused by a a parasite called Otodectes Cynotis or more commonly known as 'ear mites'. Ear mites are more common in younger pets, but can affect all ages.

These little mites can cause irritation, head shaking, itchiness and secondary ear infections. Some breeds of dogs are more susceptible to ear mite infestation such as English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Cocker Spaniels due to the anatomy of their ear canals.

Pets can become infected from other pets, bedding, socialising with infected animals and their environment. Many commercial products do not treat this parasite, so choosing the correct product for your pet is very important.

If you suspect your pet has a problem with ear mites, contact us to arrange a consultation with one of our vets.

Do you protect your dogs and cats against ticks?

Ticks are a very common 'ectoparasite' found in abundance in grasses, woodland areas etc. Ticks are more common during the warmer summer periods, but given recent changes to our climate, we are now seeing ticks even in winter!

It is important to prevent tick infestation as ticks are vectors or carriers for many diseases such as Lymes disease. Ticks can attach to pet owners as well.

There are lots of effective products available in our branches. Call in to discuss tick prevention or ask one of our vets during your next visit!

Derrygonnelly office will be closed on Friday 12th July open Saturday 13th July till 2pm as normal.

A 24 hour vet will be available for emergencies. We ask that all prescriptions are ordered and collected before this as the office will be closed.

Belleek office will be open 12th July.

Still missing please keep your eye out for him! He’s never stayed a way like this he broke the lead and ran after post van! Please if anyone can give a wee check in the fields around the area especially if you hear barking let us know!

We at Lakeland Veterinary Services would like to thank our amazing clients for coming along and helping us celebrate 30 years in business. We had a fab night with great people who helped us raise £5166.71 for the charity Rural Support . Many couldn't make it but still made a special effort by sending in donations and cards.
Special thanks to Dermot, Fergal and Rachel McConnell for providing the music, Sharon Flanagan for the lovely food and hospitality, Stevie, Old pals bar and Darren for providing refreshments and Derrygonnelly community centre for a great venue and of course all the businesses that were so generous providing prizes for the raffle.

We want to say a massive thank you to Lakeland Vets for their kind donation of £5166.71!

They raised this fantastic amount through their fundraising event held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Lakeland vets!

The funds will go to help support farmers and farming families in Northern Ireland who are experiencing challenging times and need our support through various programmes and services provided at no cost.
