Keeping Our Skills Sharp for You and Your Dogs

🐶The Little Dog Trainer - Home School Adventures!🐾

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting an absolutely gorgeous little Cavapoo who has just joined my 4-week Home School programme!

This clever pup got stuck right into his first lessons learning the foundation stages of sit, down, stand, and recall. It was wonderful to see how quickly he picked things up such a smart cookie!

Alongside the training, I spent time chatting with his lovely family about all the important ‘real life’ puppy topics too:
• Toilet training routines
• Managing puppy biting
• Ideas for daily enrichment
• Setting up the best sleeping arrangements
• Understanding how much rest a young pup truly needs
…and plenty more!

The first session set a brilliant foundation and I’m already looking forward to seeing how he grows and develops over the next three weeks. Puppies learn best through calm, positive, and consistent guidance and this little chap is already showing he’s ready for big things!

He will also be joining my free social walks shortly too.

⭐️Another lovely evening last night at Mulberry House Vets in Binfield!⭐️

Puppy Hints and Tips evenings are a brilliant opportunity to support new puppy parents on the right paw.🐾

We shared practical advice, gentle guidance, and sprinkled in a bit of myth busting along the way!

💙The Puppy Blues.💙

What It Is ?

Bringing a new puppy home is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Many new puppy owners experience what’s known as the “puppy blues” a period of stress, frustration, or even regret after getting a puppy. It’s completely normal, and you’re not alone!

🐶What Are the Puppy Blues?

The puppy blues refer to feelings of anxiety, sadness, or even regret that can arise in the first few weeks or months of having a puppy.

It often happens when the reality of caring for a young dog doesn’t match expectations.

Symptoms of the Puppy Blues
• Feeling exhausted and overwhelmed
• Doubting your decision to get a puppy
• Struggling with frustration over accidents, biting, or constant attention-seeking
• Feeling trapped or like life will never be “normal” again
• Crying or feeling low due to stress

What Can You Do?

1. Remember, It’s Temporary! Puppies grow and learn quickly. What feels overwhelming now will improve with time and training.

2. Stick to a Routine
A structured routine helps both you and your puppy feel more in control.

3.Crate Training & Rest
Puppies need lots of sleep, and crate training provides them with a safe space (and gives you a break!).

4. Socialisation & Training
Start teaching good habits early to prevent future problems.

5. Ask for Help
You don’t have to do it alone! Support from a professional trainer like myself can make a world of difference.

I’ve been a bit quiet on The Little Dog Trainer page lately things have been wonderfully busy!

🌟 20th March – we celebrate Dogs in Yellow Day 🌟

Today, we recognise and support the dogs who wear yellow 💛 a simple signal to the world that they need space.

Whether they’re anxious, reactive, recovering from an injury, or just prefer their own personal bubble, they deserve patience, kindness, and respect.

🐾 A dog in yellow isn’t a bad dog. 💛
🐾 A dog who needs space is still a great dog. 💛
🐾 A dog who reacts is communicating the only way they know how. 💛
🐾 A nervous dog isn’t being “difficult” they’re doing their best. 💛
🐾 Every dog deserves to feel safe on their walks. 💛

If you see a dog in yellow, a muzzle, or an owner requesting space, please respect their needs. Step aside, pop your own dog on the lead, and allow them the room they require.

Not every dog wants to be approached, and that’s okay! Imagine if every person you passed reached out for a hug uncomfortable, right?

💛 Dogs have boundaries too. 💛

To those with reactive or sensitive dogs: You’re doing an incredible job. Advocating for your dog, working through challenges, and ensuring they feel safe is no small task. Keep going you and your dog are a team, and you’re making their world better every single day.

Let’s spread awareness, choose understanding, and help create a world where all dogs, no matter their needs, can enjoy their walks in peace. 💛

✨Fun at Mulberry House Vets!✨

Our Puppy Hints & Tips Evening was bursting with wagging tails, playful paws, and plenty of puppy cuddles!

I had a fabulous mix of little stars, including three lovely Cockerpoos 😃from the same litter, a gorgeous Dachshund, and a stunning Shepherd.

These sessions are all about sharing helpful advice to make those first few weeks and months of puppy life smoother for everyone, because happy pups mean happy owners!

From settling in to understanding their needs , I love helping you navigate the puppy journey.

Then we all have a lovely tour around this wonderful practice, giving the puppies plenty of time to explore and take in lots of new smells, and owners a chance to see a little of what goes on behind the scenes.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us, what a joy to spend the evening with such a wonderful bunch of pups!

🐾 Puppy Socialisation Walks – More Than Just for Puppies! 🐾

Our socialisation walks aren’t just for puppies, they’re for life!

Once your puppy joins our training programmes be that in 1-1’s or our group classes they’re welcome to keep coming along at any age.

Today was a perfect small group one puppy aged 20 weeks, another now over 2 years old and my boy now coming up to being 3 years of age who is great at managing the interactions 😂 he loves his girlfriends !!! ❤️

They help to:-

✅ Build confidence in new environments
✅ Practise recall and calm greetings
✅ Enjoy social time with well matched dogs they can learn from
✅ Strengthen your bond in real world settings

These walks are a fantastic way to continue training beyond puppyhood, ensuring your dog stays confident, social, and engaged.

Whether they’re splashing in the water, exploring new places, or simply walking alongside their friends, they’re learning valuable life skills in a fun, relaxed way.

So this happened with my other company the other week and now we are able to proudly share our exciting achievement.

We are beyond proud to share that Confident Happy Canines has been named Best Dog Training Company of the Year 2025/2026 – London & South East (Berkshire) by the Prestige Awards!

A heartfelt thank you to Prestige Awards for this honour, we are very grateful to have been recognised.

The Prestige Awards recognise the important work of small and independent businesses and celebrate those who consistently offer excellent services.

We had amazing feedback from the judges, they said this was a big category and we got short listed with 3 other companies but went onto win as we stood out from the others.
Apparently due to consistent comments around our professionalism, and how comprehensive we are in every part of the training process. They thoroughly examined every part of our business including our website, social media, qualifications, experience, ethical training methods used, courses run and their contents.

The award ceremony will be in the summer, better dust off our best frocks now.
