The fastest land mammal
You’d be forgiven for thinking it’s the cheetah, but asking your dog what they have in their mouth is guaranteed to produce warp speed. 🐕🚀
Sometimes it’s a toy... sometimes it’s something you’d really rather not know about. 🤢 Not all stolen treasures are edible, so if they’re sprinting away with something weird, check twice before it becomes a vet visit!

Pet Sun Cream Awareness
Did you know? Human suncream is toxic to our pets.
Don’t worry though, pet safe suncream is available to protect your pets from sunburn.
We would recommend applying pet safe suncream to any parts of your pet that has pink skin showing on sunny days if they spend time outside - white or black and white cats with white ears and nose are a prime example!
Unprotected continued exposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer.

Oooooh, big stretch FRI-AY
An unspoken rule of pet ownership: If your pet stretches, you have to say “oooooooh BIG stretch!” out loud every time.
It doesn’t matter where you are or who is around. No exceptions, no excuses. We don’t make the rules, we just lovingly enforce them.🐾✨

Ticks - prevention & treatment
Preventing ticks is always better than treating a tick-related illness.
Thankfully, there are lots of effective tick prevention options available, including spot-on treatments, sprays, and long-lasting collars. These can be used alongside or sometimes instead of your pet’s usual parasite control, depending on the product.
Some treatments repel ticks, while others kill them after they attach.
Either way, reducing the time ticks spend on your pet lowers the risk of disease. Even with protection, it’s still a good idea to check your pet for ticks after walks, especially in areas where ticks are more common. If you find one, it’s best to remove it promptly.
Not sure which product is right for your pet? Our vets and nurses are always happy to help you choose the most suitable option.
Tick prevention is fully covered as part of The Healthy Pet Club membership

Dog walk hot weather awareness
How hot is too hot for a dog walk?
Each dog is different, for example Brachycephalic (flat faced), elderly or young, excitable dogs are more at risk of heat stroke, but the below shows a general rule of thumb in terms of care needed when walking your dog in hot weather.
Remember, your dog missing a walk or an event is not the end of the world, if it could save their life.

It’s grass seed season! These barbed seeds easily attach to fur and can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection.
Watch for These Signs:
Ears: Head shaking, scratching, and discomfort may indicate a seed lodged in the ear. These don’t work their way out and may need removal under sedation or anaesthetic.
Eyes: Redness, weeping, pawing, or squinting can signal a seed under the eyelid. Prompt vet attention is needed to prevent damage.
Feet: Lameness, licking, swelling, or oozing between toes could mean a seed has pierced the skin. These can travel up the leg and may cause infections.
Prevention Tips:
Avoid areas with long grass during summer.
Trim coats, especially around feet, ears, and between toes – particularly important for breeds like spaniels.
After walks, check your dog thoroughly and remove any visible seeds.

Rabbit Awareness Week 24th - 28th June
Rabbits need annual vaccinations, just like cats and dogs.
Vaccinations protect against Myxomatosis and ViralHaemorrhagic Disease (VHD), both of which can be fatal.
It is recommended to neuter all rabbits. Male-female pairs require neutering to prevent breeding, but same-sex pairs can fight if not neutered. Female rabbits also have an 80% chance of developing cancer of the uterus during their lifetime, which is eliminated by neutering.
