Not sure where to start with this one but it may go some way to explain why our admin may have taken a back seat for a few days.

On Wednesday Olive was down in the field with us running around the Agility kit and playing with Woody.
Fast forward to 7pm and Olive was led inside the house with heavy breathing. She also had no appetite (that's the biggest flag with Olive. She's a pocket theif usually).
We later found that Olive was struggling to stand and seemed really tired. Sarah stayed with her and we called the team at Beaconsfield Veterinary Clinic first thing on Thursday.
Olive was carried unto the practice and had scans, X rays, lots if samples taken alongside treatments (Fluid, paracetamol and anti sickness).
Late yesterday (6pm) Sarah was with Olive and had to make a difficult decision. Olive had a raging temperature but all the tests couldn't find the cause (buy they did rule out a lot if things it could have been).
There had been very little change through the day and Olive hadn't eaten or gone to the loo on her own.
The care she had received though was amazing.
Of course Sarah chose to keep fighting but that decision was made with the help of some amazing people. Not only did we have the team at Beaconsfield working on Olive, we had several friends that are also top of their Veterinary fields offering advice and support. Then there were friends who provided an ear or a lift to ease the stress a little.
We brought Olive home at 7.30pm last night having opted to nurse her at home rather than sending her to out of hours care. She did a wee and walked out to teh car. Progress!
The spare room was set up with drips, heart rate monitors etc.
Once we'd settled back at home, the first sign of Olive turning a corner was the nose twitching at chips. Of course she had a couple :-) Along with two potions if fish, scrambled eggs and some platinum.
This morning Olive was stood out in the garden with the others. She went back to the vets first thing and has been discharged to home care over the weekend.
By no means is she out of the woods yet and tests continue but in true Olive style, she's had everybody racing to help her, racked up a 4 figure bill (so far) and we know a lot of what isn't wrong and not so much about what is ;-)
What can we learn from this?
Firstly, whoever believes dog ownership is easy is wrong. Olive came close to being pts yesterday and we're it jot for a great team and support of skilled people, we may have made the wrong call.
Secondly, a good working relationship and faith in your Vets is so important. Sarah was allowed to be involved in Olive's treatment plan which helps immensely too.
We'll keep you posted.......

Primrose and Nutmeg enjoyed testing out the new orthopaedic beds at the YuMOVE UK stand at Crufts 2024. We stocked up on supplies whilst we were there too.

Just seen a post that very sadly a family is having a baby and doesn't feel able to keep their 'working' Golden. 😢 A strong reminder that Working Goldens have high energy levels and may need greater levels of exercise, training and enrichment.
Here is the info please spread the word:
We are looking for a foster for Nym, a working golden retriever coming to us this weekend.
Nym is 15 months old and comes to us as her owners feel they don’t have the time for her that she deserves with the arrival of a baby and are not able to give her the exercise she needs.
Nym is an excitable, high energy dog (as is the norm with working types) so will need an active household and plenty of exercise.
Nym lives with a baby but is mainly kept away from her as she’s very boisterous, though has been introduced and been calm and inquisitive around her when she has been well-exercised.
Nym hasn’t lived with other dogs but she is always happy to meet another dogs and gets very excitable around them, wanting to play. She may be too much for an older quieter dog, but would be great with another energetic, sociable dog.
Nym lives with a cat but does chase in play so we are looking for a cat-free home.
Nym does need some work on the lead as she will pull and is very strong. A change of lead or harness will possibly help a little and advice/support will be given if needed.
If you would ve interested in fostering Nym either short-term while we prepare her for her forever home or with a view to adopting her yourself.
Nym will need to be spayed as part of her adoption (paid for by the rescue) so will need to stay local to Derby, Nottingham, Chesterfield or Burton.

Merryway Narla of Goldbounty
RIP 01/08/2009 - 20/12/2023

Narla stole my heart and became my soulmate very quickly. Arriving as a young pup before Tom was born she joined us in so many adventures for over 14 years and I have so much to thank her for!! I don't know where to start.....She had our first litter of pups giving us the Gems and daughter Olive along with many super pups. Then the beautiful Tree Litter. She was there in a support role to all the other litters of pups especially Nanny to Olives 2 litters of Apples and Flowers.
She spent years as a Therapy dog, Teaching dog for vet and vet nurse students, stared in teaching videos and research projects.
She took me to Crufts for 3 years and
Was the most amazing fun to train and compete with. Most of all she was a huge support to me, my family 2 and 4 legs.
She was tutor dog to our own dogs and many other dogs and handlers she met over the years. Narla gave us so much she was family and best friend.
We have millions of amazing memories but currently feel very sad to have lost her 💔

GOLDBOUNTY GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

In 2011 we became "Kennel Club registered breeders" and now have the Affix kennel name of "Goldbounty". We have since bred three litters of Working Golden Retrievers known as "The Gems", "The Trees" and “The Apples”.
