Update on Bandit
Hi Guys just wanted to touch base with you all. I really need to apologise to you all for not been on face book for a while but I’ve been tied up looking after my mum at home. Who sadly passed away last Friday. This is going to be a massive change not only for myself but also my boy Bandit. I’m going to miss her presence immensely but not only me but Bandit also. He is doing really well and has worked well at his hydrotherapy but due to the circumstances at home we have not been able to attend his hydrotherapy. Once I get the funeral sorted out we can try and get back on track with his hydrotherapy. To be honest at the moment I can’t see any difference in him for missing the hydrotherapy he just seems to be getting on with it. That’s all I’m putting on today guys until I get everything sorted out and the funeral over with. Love Anita and Bandit xx

GBM Survey at Cambridge University
The following message comes from
the Border Terrier Breed Health Co-ordinator, Dr Eddie Houston BVMS, MRCVS regarding Border Terrier Survey - Gall Bladder Mucocoele:

Eddie says ...
'I would be grateful if you could all help to distribute this link throughout the Border Terrier community.

It relates to a project at Cambridge University which is trying to establish if there are any dietary factors common to GBM cases. Replies are welcome from ALL owners, not just from those with affected dogs. If any of them would also care to fill in one of our health questionnaires that would also be most welcome.

Best wishes,
Eddie'

Hi Guys just a quick update on Bandit he is still ok in him self and not showing any signs of been in pain but then again these little brown bears don’t show any pain signals as a rule. If you put Bandit in the hydrotherapy tank and start the treadmill even before they point it out to me I can see it for myself that rather than him extending his right leg and bringing it back through he’s not doing it he is favouring his left side. He has just had some bloods done on Friday morning and the vets rang me back Friday evening to tell me that his inflammatory markers were ok. So he is on the correct amount of painkiller for now. The problem is definitely not coming from his knee it is still his right hip. So got to carry on with his Librella injections and carry on with his Metacam and keep working on his diet but saying that he is still losing not vast amounts but maybe 100g each weigh in when he goes for the Librella injection. It’s hard with him with him still been on restricted walks. He only goes twice a week at the moment with the dog walker still Mondays and Fridays with hydrotherapy Wednesday and me on my scooter in between but he looks good and without seeing him in the hydrotherapy tank like I do you would honestly think there was nothing wrong with him Obviously the scans and X-rays show different. We will carry on as we are but the vet did say that now it’s going towards the damp cold weather his hips will probably begin to bother him alot more and he will now have arthritis in his knees and we already know he has secondary arthritis in his hips with them been buggered. Hopefully they will be ok might need to up his dose of Metacam. I’m still having lots of problems with my feet I saw the consultant on Wednesday last week and he seem to think there could be something else going on that not showing up on scans and X-rays he doesn’t want to do any operation that will make my pain worse. If difficult for him with me already suffering with chronic regional pain syndrome from an accident in 1999 from breaking my ankle into a few bits. So my consultant is sending me for a second opinion with one of his colleagues and that appointment is on the 5th November.
Still my No 1 priority is Bandit and keeping him as pain free as possible
Love Anita and Bandit xx

Bandit update 🐾

13/09/2024

Update on Bandit 7th September
Hi guys I’m sorry for leaving it a while again but I’ve had a lot on again. Anyway just to update you all for the second week in a row Bandit hasn’t done very well at hydrotherapy we were progressing really well but last week he was definitely not fully using what looked like his right knee he wasn’t extending it properly and he didn’t look happy when she stopped the treadmill and was feeling his knee but then again he never looks happy when he’s at hydrotherapy I can tell by the look on is face I can actually imagine him cursing away in his head and I don’t half get some dirty looks off him I dare say if he came across a dirty deep puddle he would paddle around in it for ages but because it’s a nice clean warm tank of water and a treadmill he don’t like it ( I suppose border terriers weren’t really made to paddle in clean warm water ). Anyway this week the physio had a look at him walking and an examination and he it still favouring his left side but she suspects it’s his hips not knees she Tod me to up his anti inflammatory meds and to cut out one of his walks with his aunty Joyce which he’s only just started going 3 times instead of 2 and I’ve also got to knock his like walks down to 20-25 minutes twice a day. So he just did a couple of 1 minute repetitions this week again. I had to take him up to the vets the following day for his Librela injection and we saw Jess who was the vet that diagnosed Bandits hips and knees and she’s been following his progress. She examined his knees and said he had lovely movement in them without any tensioning from Bandit. She said she agreed it was definitely going to be his hips but she said it wasn’t worth putting him through any further pain by pulling his legs backwards when we know his hips are buggered. It’s not to disastrous at the moment but he will be needing the sorted sometime soon with hi hydrotherapy sessions getting shorter. I can honestly say that at the moment at home he is living his puppy life that he never got to have he can still chase pigeons in the garden and he goes clappers out of hell if he sees a cat outside and the way he plays with his toys throwing them up in the air jumping on the sofa still these are all things he can now do but never did before having his knees done. So we will keep on going with his pain relief until it stops having the effect it’s having on him now.
As for me all I can say is the nerve blocks into my feet haven’t worked I had maybe 2 weeks where I thought they were on the turn but then they turned and are as painful as ever. I did ask the vet to give me some medicine Bandit was having but will have to stick to Morphine for now until I go back to hospital in about 3 weeks time. Anyway Bandit is going to chat to you after I’ve posted this just to tell you what he’s been up to. Anita ###

Up date on Bandit
Hi Guys sorry I’ve not sent any updates for a week or so just got so much going on at the moment. Both me and Bandit are not great but I won’t go into my problems im just making sure My little mate is ok. We had to cut Bandits hydro short on Wednesday he wasn’t using his right knee as much as he had been. He’s been getting on so well but after 2 mins on the treadmill mill at hydro even I noticed in the mirror that his right knee wasn’t moving as well as his left. When she stopped the machine and was feeling his knee I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn’t happy. She said while he was walking he was favouring his left leg. She asked me if I had noticed him maybe stumble or turn in an awkward position I said no I hadn’t noticed anything at all it wasn’t untill he started his hydro that I saw it. Anyway after ringing my vets up to order some more metacam which I’d been meaning to do it for a few days but had forgotten I knew he was getting low on it as the 100ml bottle they gave me after having both his surgeries done has lasted him He was doing so well he had even had that reduced but I knew I would need to up it again for yesterday and today and was also advised to rest him yesterday and today. He’s been quite happy since coming back from hydro and to look at him you would never of noticed at all. Anyway I was advised by my vet to ring paragon up and just try and speak to the vet that had operated on him which I did straight away on Wednesday. Unfortunately the vet that operated on Bandit was not in until yesterday but the receptionist had sent him a message for him to ring me the following day ( yesterday ) anyway we had a long talk and I told him that he was a totally different dog it was like he was living his life what he missed out on as a puppy bless him. The vet at paragon said the ideal thing to do for Bandit was do what I had done and reduced his metacam while he was doing ok. He said the ideal thing to do for Bandit looking forward is to get him off the metacam altogether to see how the Librella injections were was irking for him. He said I had to use my own judgment on when to reduce and when to up his metacam on days he’s uncomfortable but how do you tell when these little brown bears don’t give anything away they just get on with day to day life or Bandit does anyway. So once again im sorry for not keeping you guys in the loop as I know how much you all think of Bandit but I will try to keep you up to date with him again. Here’s a pic of home so you can see his cute little face this has just been taken now. I will try and get him to talk to you all over the weekend when we both get the opportunity to do it. Love to you all from Bandit and Anita

Update on Bandit 🐾🐾
He's doing really well and enjoying his hydrotherapy and walks too.
Here is enjoying his playtime with his favourite toy 😂

22/08/2024

Here she is.... she was so happy to see us. She even barked at a fellow border! She's still no where near back to herself. But mentally she seems so much happier. I will update more on her progress. Without everyone's help on this wonderful group, none of this would be made possible. Thank you all so very much. Ps the ferry crossing to get her was pure hell 😅 but so worth it 🥰

Hi all.

Little update, nothing much to report. Rosie is staying in for at least another 24 hours, I have a feeling it will be longer. I asked for a picture of her as I am so desperate to see her as we all are.
No results back and still no actual diagnosis, have been asking each time do we know what it is, mentioned meningitis before , so. No further forward but I do have the help and support from Vanessa Jessop and the Border Terrier Welfare UK

Here is our little girl.. I am saying our girl because I feel like she has been shared in to all of our thoughts are hearts

A very small update on little Rosie.

The vet called me this morning , she explained that they are looking in to neurological tests which they have done, they have done a spinal tap, she is on her beds, eating and being kept comfortable.

The vet said she is getting a lot of fuss, which I know she will be loving right now, and missing her mum dad and sister with the long nose.

She has said ( and I cried when she told me) that she was wagging her tail. Some movement on her back leg but front right and back right not any movement as yet. But she did manage to manoeuvre her way round the crate, which is more than when I saw her yesterday morning, she was totally paralysed which was the scariest thing for her and us.

She will be in for more days at least.

We are all do thankful for the support you have given.

And , will update more later this afternoon when we know more. Here's a few pics of her from when she was being her normal little scamp like self. More photos of Rosie in the comments x

Rosie could use some help from her friends 🐾

Help Rosie Walk AgainRosie, Our beloved border terrier suddenly lost the ability to walk due to a potential slipped disc. In just a few days, she went from happily enjoying her walks to being completely paralyzed. She urgently needs surgery, but our insurance won’t cover any more costs, and we’re facing an overwhelming vet bill. We’re asking for your help to get Rosie back on her paws. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Morag could use a little help, she needs to have her gall bladder removed and veterinary costs have superceded the insurance limit. See further details in the link. Thank you.

Morag has to have surgery to remove her gall bladder and without the surgery she is not going to make it.
