Originally developed as a scent hound in South Africa to track a variety of game.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback’s distinguishing feature is the ridge of hair running along its back in the opposite direction from the rest of its coat. Canine folklore suggested that a well-marked ridge was a sign of courage. (Ref: UK Kennel Club)
