Originally developed as a scent hound in South Africa to track a variety of game.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback’s distinguishing feature is the ridge of hair running along its back in the opposite direction from the rest of its coat. Canine folklore suggested that a well-marked ridge was a sign of courage. (Ref: UK Kennel Club)

The English Pointer.
Athletic, stylish dog with great scenting powers. Part of the HPR (hunt point retrieve) Gundog group, it is thought they originated from Spain and then crossed with local dogs. Pointers are known to be very loving and devoted to their families, enjoying close relationships with their owners. (Source: Kennel Club of GB)

The Flatcoat Retriever. Once known as the Wavy Coated Retriever, it is thought that the more racy lines of the Flatcoat comes from some Setter ancestry mixed with Spaniel and Retriever blood. The breed was extremely popular until the creation of the Golden Retriever, and two World Wars also took their toll on numbers. Now rising in popularity again as a pet and competition dog, the Flattie is an intelligent yet gentle breed and makes a delightful companion in the right home.

The Chocolate Labrador.
The chocolate coat of a Labrador comes from recessive genes, meaning that both parents must carry at least one copy of the gene for a chocolate puppy to be born. Chocolate Labs act just like any other Labrador, they’re very easy to train thanks to their intelligence and eagerness to please. They are very active and require plenty of exercise.

It is thought that early ancestors of the breed were certain breeds of pointers and a spotted Great Dane.
In the Regency period 1795-1837 the breed became a status symbol trotting alongside the horse-drawn carriages and those with decorative spotting were highly prized.
